Wang Xing Yue’s Next C-drama the Period Piece Xing Zhi Wan in Talks with Either Yang Chao Yue or Ju Jing Yi as the Female Lead

I don’t even know how to pick between these two female leads, and not in any good way. Might as well flip a coin between over-acting and perennially posing. Yang Chao Yue and Ju Jing Yi are reportedly the two actresses in talks to be the female lead opposing Wang Xing Yue in his next C-drama. It’s adapted from the novel titled Xing Zhi Wan (行止晚) and I don’t quite have a literal translation that works other than the three words mean move, stop, late. Between the two female leads Ju Jing Yi has a leg up in every aspect, a small hit with Blossom and a bigger fanbase. But for me Yang Chao Yue annoys me less haha not sure if that has any sway in which one gets cast other than poor Wang Xing Yue, to be so rising steadily and then get potential female lead that he needs to hard carry. I’ll keep tabs on which one, if either, ends up the final pick.

  1. Oh my God, did they have a meeting and pick the literal worst options for my poor guy, please anyone but them, I mean I’ll pick a rookie who’s never acted a day in their lives over these two

    • I know myriads of actresses evolving in the vertical drama sector that can eat those two in breakfast : YuYin, Yue YuTing, Meng Na, Zhong Xi, Yao YuChen etc… to name a few

  2. He really doesn’t this. I do wonder, if it’s JJY, if it’ll devolve into a billing fight.

    • Has he been cast in this yet, or is he still in talks? If he’s still in talks, maybe he can opt out if either of these two are cast. He should definitely bail if they try to start a billing war if he was cast first. He’s a graduate of one of the top schools for professional actors and he dubs his own voice. At 23, he’s young enough to be picky with his projects since it will be a while before he’s in solid lead territory. Luckily there’s Love In Red Dust with Xu Ruohan to look foward to.

  3. Ju Jingyi will probally not be the female lead, she has two dramas lined up she’s confirmed to star in, those two will keep her busy for many months.

  4. Why can’t they have him reunite with Lu Yu Xiao. She’s a great actress and they have amazing chemistry.

    • I agree! They were the perfect match (pun intended). I’m still enamoured with her character Shangguan in MJTY

  6. Between the two girls, it’s better to go with Ju jingyi. I’ve no problems with Ju Jing Yi’s acting.

    • I agree. I know everyone criticizes jjy but her acting is more believable than the other actress despite her pretty pretty over done reputation. But who knows maybe it will change to someone else. Ycy might get chosen as a pity card for her cameo in the double. 🤷🏻‍♀️

        I agree with you. I think JJY is serviceable as a sensible and intelligent heroine. Lots of criticisms on playing the same character but I guess if the formula works for her, why change? Afterall she is not aiming for acting awards.

        I do hope JJY (both 1994, 21 roles) could get the role coz she is older than YCY (born 1998, 18 roles) but has less roles comparatively.

        As for YCY, she is pretty and sweet. But she doesn’t have the stamina to retain the audience’s interests.

        I read somewhere Yu Zheng is keen to work with JJY but like you said, he might also give YCY a chance for her cameo in The Double.

  7. Oh god what a nightmare coin flip. Yang Chaoyue at least has a sincerity to her acting so I would pick her over JJY. But damn what a terrible lineup. There is a plethora of young talent in China but instead they pick these washed up idols who can’t act to save their lives.

    • And because the nepo-babies or capitalist-babies culture is so strong in the industry now, a lot of trained actors have ended up in the short drama sector (Zhong Xi, Cai Xin Yang, Wang Hao Zhen to name a few)

Unfortunately Wang Xing Yue is emerging in an industry dominated and plagued by the capitalists who have been suppressing talents (He Xuan Lin, He Lan Dou, Xuan Lu, Zheng He Hui Zui to name a few) to the benefit of mediocre and vapid “idols” (Ju Jing Yi, Yang Chao Yue, Zhao Lu Si to name a few). And all of that in the name of profit/money in an environment of growing fatigue towards what the industry has been serving us. Indeed the big drama market has been exceptionally cold this year with more and more viewers shifting their interest towards the short drama one. By being constantly paired with the usual club of mediocre but overpromoted capitalists 95′ babies in those usual costume idol dramas with questionable plot, I start and seriously worry for Wang Xing Yue career trajectory. Like really I seriously worry for his artistry growth. Bai Lu and Xu Kai who are under YuZheng have become stale. I am afraid Wang Xing Yue is next. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

  9. What a waste of his talent! Is he gonna be a male version of Bai Lu who started off really promising but is now getting boring?

  11. WXY is so handsome. I’m just hoping the storyline is good and they have a good director because honestly no matter how good looking you are, if the story and directing sux, I wouldn’t tune in for it.

  12. Honestly, does the first lead cast in a drama have an opt out clause if the production tries to pair them with an actor that ins’t up to par. I wish he could be paired with solid actresses only. I don’t care if they’re relatively unknown if they can act and have screen presence. His agency should really not let him work with with anyone that would have his career taking steps backwards. He has a lot of potential. His career should be a balance between supporting work in top tier well written projects working with acclaimed vets to hone his acting skills, and lead roles in the typical OTT dramas working with either solid very popular actresses or solid unknown actresses. I might be biased when it comes to Ju Jingyi. I didn’t know about the swap storyline for In Blossom and the first actress made such an impression, that I just couldn’t go on. I haven’t seen Yang Chao Yue in anything. Seems both have an idol background.

  14. I would love to watch him with any of these names but If I were given chance to pick one first it would be JJY.
