Tencent in Talks with Crystal Liu and Chen Xiao to Reunite in Modern Romance C-drama The Queen of Brilliance
The C-drama universe loves reunions of leads in successful prior drama pairings and the production teams have been trying to reunite Crystal Liu and Chen Xiao ever since they did the popular period drama A Dream of Splendor. The prior rumors of a reunion between them never came to fruition but this week there is a legitimate possibility they will collaborate again. Tencent has offered the leads of its big budget modern romance C-drama The Queen of Brilliance (璀璨之上 Chan Lan Zi Shang) to them and both are reportedly open to the project. It’s set in the Chinese entertainment industry and comes from the production team behind this year’s unexpected hit Love’s Ambition with Zhao Lu Si and William Chan. This drama is expected to be a 2026 tentpole production for Tencent so if these two pass I expect it will still end up with big name stars in the lead.
All the actors somehow have lost their appeal after their divorce. THIS includes Song Joong Ki and Chen Xiao, like there’s a magic curse on them. LOL
I just saw a recent pic of CX and looked like he lost a lot of weight. Not sure if it’s for a new role but it’s not very flattering.
Tbh I wasn’t really affected by sjk divorce scuffles, but somehow it’s true that I can’t watch any of his drama afterward. I don’t understand how my own mind
That’s why I consider there’s a magic spell on him. LOL. He actually still looked young in the most recent drama, My Youth. But somehow he did not radiate the kind of magnetism he used to have any more. He used to be one of my fav K actors. I loved him in Deep Rooted Tree, the Innocent Man, A Werewolf Boy, Descendants of the Sun, and even Reborn Rich where ppl said he was overshadowed by the veteran actor, Lee Sung-min .
I would be very surprised if he said yes considering how the first one went. But who knows.
Not surprised he will pair with her again.
