K-netizens Note that Shinhan Bank is Now the Cursed Advertiser in South Korea After Three Consecutive Spokesmodels Cha Eun Woo, NewJeans, and Kim Soo Hyun Encounter Scandals — 10 Comments

  1. All of these scandals made me think of Australia in the 1980s and 1990s that had “tall poppy syndrome” – anyone who stood up too tall (i.e. became high profile and/or super wealthy) was ‘chopped’ down (some scandal, rumors , a shady past getting re-aired etc.). Basically it came down to jealously by the masses.

Seems it moved to Korea (changed a bit of course as its coming from a more ‘unauthentic’ or ‘extravagance’ perspective now).

    • Tbh aside from newjeans (idk what this about) ksh and cew case still came down to effect of their own doing tho
If they don’t do anything wrong, no one would be able to pull them

      • @Yuhyi Exactly. Like yes KNetz do have a habit of digging up dirt on anyone who got successful. But at the end of the day, if a person didn’t do anything wrong, there wouldn’t be any dirt to dig, except for maybe immature shenanigans when they were teenagers or something, and those are hardly worth cancelling for.

Look at Yoo Jae Suk for example, a great example of an extremely successful person who has been on top for years and has never been cancelled. I’m sure many are jealous of his success and have attempted to bring him down, but apparently he’s a decent person, so they were never been able to dig dirt on him. Or maybe he just has a really good PR team, who knows lol. But even very big names like Lee Byung Hun and some top KPop idols weren’t able to escape being exposed for some shady stuff they did, and I’m sure they have the best PR teams, so I’m thinking Yoo Jae Suk is probably just a good person.

There’s a lot to criticize Koreans/KNetz for, but they didn’t exactly made KSH a pdofle and they didn’t make CEW commit tax evasion lol. Seems like the “jealousy of a successful person” angle is fans’ new favorite excuse to prevent their faves being held accountable lmao

      • @UreNotSleek
Yep I even heard yjs overpaid his tax on purpose so this kind of thing doesn’t happen. We don’t know those celeb, but seeing how despite how popular, how often he appears on varshow and occasion, but never make a single blunder, I feel like he is a truly good person

    • What tall poppy syndrome?!

The guy is just another rich jerk who doesn’t want to pay his taxes. He got caught. Stop defending your oppas over stuff like this.

  2. There’s a rumor that CEW’s tax investigation is politically motivated though Idk how it’s related. I do know the current ruling party isn’t doing well though. lol

    • Idk if it’s politically motivated but korean gov has been cracking on one man studio and related tax expense in recent years. I have seen cl, lee hi, kang dongwon, and others. It’s just cew is big fish + paper company suspicion

    • It could be politically motivated and very likely his company’s owner ran a foul of some higher ups. Fantagio has always been run by very shady people and they have been doing these for years but only recently got investigated. It was the investigation of fantagio that led the tax dept to sniff out cews dealings. Plus they have been going after one man agencies the past 2 years as it seems probably alot of people are evading taxes or laundering money via that route.
But he is still to be blamed for his own tax evasion. This wasn’t even oops I filed wrongly etc its straight up intentional subverting of the tax law until he got caught I guess. Too bad I dont feel a least bit sorry for wealthy ppl who doesnt even pay their paxes. Also Ive always found his goody prince image too fake

  3. Maybe it’s time to stop using celeb for bank ad and just make good saving product
I would buy clothes or eat food to get photo cards, but make bank account??
