My baby boy Yoo Seung Ho continues having a smashing acting career, after last year’s one-two punch of the SBS drama Remember: Son’s War and the sageuk movie The Joseon Magician, he’s back in the spotlight for another potential one-two punch. Up first is his Joseon comedy heist movie Seondal: The Man Who Sells the River, by title alone already … Continue reading →
I’m going to place my bet that there will be a big bounty at the box office waiting for Korean-Chinese movie Bounty Hunters when it premieres on July 1st. The third trailer really hammers home the fun factor, and for caper and chase movies like this fun outweighs the substance so there’s not a huge hill to climb to win … Continue reading →
A new record got broken from the Korean film contingent attending this year’s 2016 Cannes Film Festival – famed director Park Chan Wook‘s long awaited intense period movie The Handmaiden broke the record set by Bong Joon Ho‘s Snowpiercer as the best selling Korean movie of all time. The Handmaiden was sold to 175 countries over Snowpiercer’s 167, but the more … Continue reading →
The initial fervor and subsequent furor surrounding early 2016 K-drama Cheese in the Trap now feels like water under the bridge. New dramas have come along since, such as the massive hit Descendants of the Sun or the currently buzzy cable drama Another Oh Hye Young, with enough momentum that Cheese outrage has died down naturally. I’m of the mind … Continue reading →
The shiny Korean stars at this year’s 2016 Cannes Film Festival wasn’t only Gong Yoo and Jung Yumi, there to promote zombie thriller Train to Busan. Also at the French beach city are top actors Ha Jung Woo and Jo Jin Woong for their period movie The Handmaiden (Agasshi), along with female leads Kim Min Hee and Kim Tae Ri. … Continue reading →
One of Korea’s representatives to the 2016 Cannes Film Festival was the cast of summer thriller movie Train to Busan. Led by leads Gong Yoo and Jung Yumi, they were joined by director Yeon Sang Ho along with child actress Kim Soo Ahn as the excited and happy foursome hit up all the major Cannes events. From red carpet to … Continue reading →
Leave it to Korea to mash up 28Â Days Later and Snowpiercer, and then make me salivate to what what is essentially a derivative disaster thriller movie. The teaser is out for this summer’s big budget K-movie Train to Busan, starring my cinematic husband Gong Yoo in one of his most heroic incarnations ever. Train to Busan is about a virulent … Continue reading →
If there’s too much of a good thing, and I’d argue there isn’t, then the doubling up of two A-list actors in Korea in the same mood may send me into sugar shock. Luckily my sugar intake is under control, not to mention I have plenty of digestive capacity to soak up the upcoming visuals in Jung Woo Sung and … Continue reading →
Promotions are ramping up big time for upcoming Korean-Chinese joint production movie Bounty Hunters. Starring Lee Min Ho, Wallace Chung, and Tang Yan, the movie is directed by a Korean movie director based on a Chinese script, following a team of swashbuckling bounty hunters on the heels of an international crime syndicate. The first trailer looked entertaining enough but I’m … Continue reading →
Now this is what sweetly sincere and useful synergy. Top young actor stars Song Joong Ki and Park Bo Young reunited last week after doing their hit movie A Werewolf Boy together four years ago in 2012 with Director Jo Sung Hee. This reunion was specifically for Director Jo, namely to support and cheer on his upcoming new movie Phantom … Continue reading →
I’m normally live and let live with entertainment products – producers have a right to make whatever and it’s up to audiences to watch or ignore. But with this latest offering it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the taste of crass selling out and the ruination of a classic original. Korean-Chinese co-produced movie My Sassy Girl 2 … Continue reading →
Lee Min Ho‘s Q score remains sky high in China despite not having a hit project since Heirs two years ago. That will likely change this summer when his Chinese-Korean collaboration movie Bounty Hunters airs. His costars are uber popular Wallace Chung and Tang Yan, plus the addition of pretty young faces like Karena Ng and Jeremy Jones, the movie … Continue reading →
Not sure who is the brain trust behind this percolating idea but it’s so worth talking about. There is a potential Cheese in the Trap movie in the works, and on top of that an offer has gone out to Park Hae Jin to reprise his role as male lead Yoo Jung. I’m hoping the idea of male lead for … Continue reading →
