This was a sorry excuse for a penultimate episode of a drama as it comes. Episode 15 of Two Weeks, a well-written and nicely paced drama that has delivered on creating the compelling journey of a broken man’s quest for redemption and salvation, pretty much took a turn towards sillyville. The final resolution seems to be premised on convenience and … Continue reading →
In the spectrum of good, better, best, the second teaser for Heirs or The Inheritors lands squarely in good. It’s better than the first one, but that one didn’t even make it to a decent and interesting level. This one has talking and every one of the leads makes a twirl (except for Im Joo Eun, who I decree simply … Continue reading →
The commentary on Heirs or The Inheritors in this post has been scrubbed to avoid knee-jerk reactions and how-dare-you-prejudge-a-drama-based-on-stills outrage. Of course I didn’t scrub it to avoid debate, but more like these latest stills swing the pendulum back to hhhhmmmm-not-bad side of things. Lee Min Ho is not in any of these, whether that has any correlation I would not … Continue reading →
I feel like Two Weeks is so underrated and not just because its ratings are low vis-à -vis the less well-written competition. It’s also underrated because it’s that rare beast viewers have been clamoring for – a drama that has an engaging beginning, a gripping middle, and a satisfying ending – and yet it’s unable to keep viewer’s attention long enough … Continue reading →
Now this is what imma talking about! Chemistry. It’s ephemeral and impossible to bottle up. It’s different than pheromones which can be simulated by manufactured scents, chemistry is about sparks flying and a skin tingling awareness. Kinda like six sense, you can’t describe the reason for the spark but you’ll know it when it’s there. It’s also something hard to … Continue reading →
I just know I’m probably going to loathe all the main characters in the upcoming KBS melodrama Secret (English title Secret Love) starring Ji Sung as an emotionally dysfunctional second generation chaebol, Hwang Jung Eum as the girl who he thinks killed his girlfriend, Bae Soo Bin as a prosecutor and douchebag boyfriend to Hwang Jung Eum, and Lee Da … Continue reading →
LOL, now this is a cheeky wink-wink way to have some fun with the leading lady in Marry Him If You Dare (Mirae’s Choice) since she’s being played by former idol girl Yoon Eun Hye. It’s been ages since she was a member of Baby V.O.X. and frankly they were a middling girl group at best so it’s not like Yoon Eun … Continue reading →
I hope my opinion doesn’t ignite a firestorm but if it does then at least good old-fashioned debate still exists even for something as inane and inconsequential as Korean dramas. Heirs or The Inheritors has already released first stills of Park Shin Hye‘s Cha Eun Sang and Lee Min Ho‘s Kim Tan first meeting. Apparently it takes place in Los … Continue reading →
Just because weekend dramas are by and large painfully terrible isn’t reason enough for me to swear off them for life. There is always the rare exception, and even the ones that putter to a close can be worth the early days watch as long as it doesn’t go full-on-crazy. It’s something different to chew on and not everything needs … Continue reading →
Monday sees the premiere of a new sitcom about town, not that most people would care since the Korean sitcoms occupy a lesser plane of consciousness since subtitles are rarely available for it. I’m actually quite intrigued by the upcoming Potato Star 2013QR3, which has an even more unwieldy earlier title of Sweet Potato-shaped Potato Star 2013QR3. It’s got a … Continue reading →
The wait was definitely worth it, but there being no reason for the lag in releasing the first official stills of leading man Lee Dong Gun in Marry Him If You Dare still baffles me. Oh wells, I’ll not look a gift horse in the mouth so thank you KBS! Lee Dong Gun plays Kim Shin, a news anchor/announcer who … Continue reading →
The front runner for worst K-drama of the year wrapped up today in I Summon You, Gold. For 50 episodes this sucker was like a surreal trainwreck of epic proportions, easily out-classing other wacky or pointless recent weekend dramas such as The Best Lee Soon Shin or Hundred Year Inheritance, or painful and unpalatable currently airing ones like Goddess of … Continue reading →
You have no idea how happy and relieved I am to come across Jung Kyung Ho news. The last I heard of him, Cruel City (Heartless City) was ending in a torrent of tears while leading man Jung Kyung Ho was off to recover and rehab from a serious back injury sustained towards the latter part of the grueling filming … Continue reading →
