I hope my boy Lee Seung Gi had barrels of fun filming SBS drama Vagabond last year. Because that would have made it worth it that I sat through what amounts to 16 hours of narrative garbage with passable action scenes. I would exile this drama to the trash bin except Seung Gi and goodness he was all hot and … Continue reading →
FUCK YOU 2019. Seriously. I cannot believe I am writing about two Asian celebrity deaths in the same week. One is already insane and painful, two just confirms this is one of the worst years ever in blogging about East Asian entertainment. News reports have confirmed that Taiwanese-Canadian heartthrob actor Godfrey Gao (Gao Yi Xiang) has died. He was 35 … Continue reading →
The last 9 weeks flew by probably because I was so addicted to KBS Mon-Tues sageuk The Tale of Nokdu that I looked forward to each Monday arriving. I’m going to genuinely miss this drama that managed to start off wacky with the cross-dressing hijinks but settle into a serious and heartwarming romance and family issues drama. The politics always … Continue reading →
I’m going to hazard a guess that K-drama Her Private Life was really popular in Singapore and it makes sense as the drama really as the classic Hallyu rom-com vibe down pat. Leads Park Min Young and Kim Jae Wook delivered a 10-out-of-10 in terms of chemistry and sweetness so they deserve the popularity surge this year. The two reunited … Continue reading →
It’s been a quiet few months on the news front with arrested actor Kang Ji Hwan. He ruined his entire life and a nearly 20-year long acting career by committing the crime of attempted rape and sexual assault on two women during the summer who were working on his drama Joseon Survival Tale after a night of drinking. He was … Continue reading →
The deja vu is so thick with the passing of K-star Goo Hara just a month after her good friend and fellow K-star Sulli passed away. Both girls where in their late 20’s and prime of their lives but chose to leave early rather than live in this world. Goo Hara’s family has announced a private funeral but her agency … Continue reading →
It’s funny that I just finished watching the final two episodes of When the Camellia Blooms before seeing the new drama character stills for the four leads of Crash Landing on You. Camellia has its limitations that prevent it from being a perfect drama but the successful creation of fully human, flawed, and slice-of-life characters is it’s top selling point. … Continue reading →
The little sageuk that could readies itself for a finale on Monday in a balance scale of what was so wonderful and what could have been more. KBS drama The Tale of Nokdu has only one episode left, the final episode 16, airing this Monday due to a schedule disruption that upended the usual odd-even airing pairs. That made last … Continue reading →
I’m truly at a loss for words. Every K-ent suicide from the first that I covered as a blogger (that would be Park Yong Ha in 2010) to the latest with Sulli last month in October, has always been difficult to process. Every time I wonder if that person could have been saved, and then if they were saved before … Continue reading →
tvN is putting more genre and serious fare in the Mon-Tues time slot, there’s subway cop investigative drama Catch the Ghost right now and next comes teaching school drama Black Dog in early December. Black Dog reminds me so much of J-doramas as the teacher inspiration and growth genre is done much more frequently there, and of course remade to … Continue reading →
Remember how mad we all were with the ending of Lee Seung Gi and Suzy’s first drama pairing together Gu Family Book? Remember how mad we all were at many other dramas with genuinely terrible endings, some ruining otherwise ok fare and others creating a conclusion in line with how bad that drama was already. Well get ready to have … Continue reading →
It’s nice to see a rising actor vault to the level of being able to hold a fan meeting and such is the case with Jang Ki Yong. I, and probably many drama viewers, noticed him playing the rough baddie in My Ahjusshi because he was so awful and hot at the same time lol. He’s since gone on to … Continue reading →
K-actress Song Hye Kyo celebrated her 38th birthday on November 22, or 39 in Korean age since you are 1 at birth. There are two high profile congrats on her birthday, the more personal one is celebrating with good friend and same label mate Yoo Ah In. She got an amazing bouquet of white roses from him and a shout … Continue reading →
