This Wednesday is the premiere of new MBC sageuk Ruler: Master of the Mask, on the big three prime time channel that is best known for bringing the sageuk intensity in a traditional way. The last two hit sageuks for MBC were Empress Ki in 2013 and before that The Moon Embraces the Sun in 2012, with many sageuks since … Continue reading →
The happy and jam packed Hong Kong fan meeting for Hallyu actor Gong Yoo went off without a hitch this weekend, unless you count his singularly unattractive salmon colored casual suit and sockless white tennis shoes combination. The even better news is that Gong Yoo revealed in Hong Kong that he’s coming back with his next acting project soon, and … Continue reading →
I don’t know anyone personally who watched recently wrapped SBS Wed-Thurs drama Saimdang: Light’s Diary, and judging from the sad sack ratings in Korea that’s the case as well. The drama was super high profile from the casting stage when it was announced as famed K-actress Lee Young Ae‘s comeback drama after thirteen years since record breaking hit Dae Jang … Continue reading →
Ooooooh this looks fantastic, or at least the lead cast does on first impression. Filming is underway for the K-drama remake of hit US procedural Criminal Minds, and if this is a hit expect more where that remake train is coming. The drama is scheduled to air on cable network tvN in July but is well underway with filming, which … Continue reading →
It’s birthday time and this one is a combination of my favorite and a big day. K-actress Moon Geun Young celebrated her 30th birthday on May 6th, a Taurus who was born on this day in 1987. Moon Geun Young is ostensibly Hallyu drama’s first child actor star, setting the stage in the childhood portion of weepy fauxcest K-drama Autumn … Continue reading →
Bromance gets tons of attention in entertainment whether in real life or characters onscreen but less visible are the long lasting friendships that don’t have a quippy name. For well over a decade two stars have remained good friends in K-ent and doing so even without a dating scandal! Ever since playing the CP in Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy, … Continue reading →
I used to teasingly refer to Shin Se Kyung as the chinless wonder, thanks to her having a relatively weak chin and being pretty darn bland at acting. That all changed thanks to her sparkling and spot-on turn as The Girl Who Sees Smells, which sadly is a drama that has limited re-watch potential due to no fault of her … Continue reading →
Couples were not the focal point of the 2017 Baeksangs, whether onscreen pairings or real life couples, the event was mostly devoid of shippable moments for fans. An exception was seeing the Moonlight Drawn by Clouds couple Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung reunited on stage, and the picture above where she fixes his shirt is straight out of … Continue reading →
Far out rumors are the most fun for me because it’s basically a picking names out of two star jars and calling it dating. This week in K-ent is ending on the rumor of actress Park Shin Hye dating actor Choi Tae Joon, with netizens claiming reported sightings of them at an arboretum, at a convenience store, and reportedly even … Continue reading →
It’s impossible for everything to always be a success but on the hit-and-miss scale the career of Jeon Ji Hyun has been exceptionally successful to a mind-boggling degree. Setting aside her acting or box office and ratings successes, she’s been quite the trend setter for nearly two decades and it’s not hard to see why. Her beauty is both breathtaking … Continue reading →
News that top K-star dating couple Lee Min Ho and Suzy threw a party with close friends to celebrate their two year anniversary was a nice reminder that even the most high profile scrutinized celeb relationships can work. Not that those two are getting married but even hitting a two year anniversary is worth celebrating especially under the harsh light … Continue reading →
I’m getting depressing vibes from the first teaser for upcoming KBS sageuk Seven Days Queen (or Queen for Seven Days), but then again just the premise of a woman being queen for 7 days before removal from her position seems dire without a possible happy ending in sight. The titular queen refers to Joseon era Queen Dangyeon, married to King … Continue reading →
Popularity doesn’t always mean money and oftentimes I hear of popular K-idols who lament being penny poor because they haven’t been paid due to contract or income complications. The same goes in the television world where ratings matters less than what the product sold for and how much ad revenue it brought in. The greater the delta the better for … Continue reading →
