I’m thrilled for Lee Min Ho in doing so well with Legend of the Blue Sea.It doesn’t feel like a role tailor made for him but he’s delivering a serviceable performance so far and there is hope he can reach a higher level as the drama deepens in emotional heft. This may be his last performance and role before military … Continue reading →
It can’t be just me who thinks that the male cast of upcoming KBS sageuk Hwarang looks like the Shilla power rangers. There’s the different yet fully coordinating awkward hair pieces, followed by the extremely colorful costumes that take flower boy to new heights of flower inspired attire. It’s actually the first sageuk drama for the three leads Park Seo … Continue reading →
Confirmation is in order for the next reunion drama of screenwriter Park Hye Ryun and her male lead muse Lee Jong Seok. He’s confirmed for While You Were Sleeping, and his leading lady is also confirmed to be Suzy. On top of that, SBS has for sure picked up the drama for it’s early 2017 prime time slot, and directing … Continue reading →
For the last few years it seems like Angelababy has been all over C-ent whether in movies or drama, but this upcoming period drama may be her last before she takes a hiatus to welcome her first child with husband Huang Xiaoming. She’s rather polarizing to watch, at times better than expected yet never truly convincing to personify a role. … Continue reading →
The first blast of winter hits the pages of 1st Look magazine, very aptly might I say, but for the fact that it’s still hot where I’m at and fall seems to have just never arrived at all so it’s sad to see winter right around the corner. With that said, Shin Mina steals the spotlight in this pictorial even … Continue reading →
This is a new one in terms of the buddy cop movie, but at least it hews to the standard playbook of one straight laced with one goofy. The first movie teaser is out for Cooperation, starring Hyun Bin as a North Korean detective sent down to South Korea to partner with South Korean cop played by Yoo Hae Jin. … Continue reading →
It’s been four years since Gong Yoo‘s last drama, the high profile Hong sisters rare flop that was Big. But apparently it’s been five years of repeated wooing from screenwriter Kim Eun Sook to get Gong Yoo to accept her drama, which in essence means he was offered A Gentleman’s Dignity, Heirs, and Descendants of the Sun before he finally … Continue reading →
The Chinese noose tightening on Hallyu continues and the latest high profile casualty is K-actress Jeon Ji Hyun losing her endorsement campaign for Chinese cellphone brand Oppo‘s newest handset the R9. Jeon Ji Hyun landed the campaign just one month ago in October and Oppo is reportedly paying a hefty price for her to be the R9 spokeswoman, much like … Continue reading →
The ratings tide is headed in the right and upward direction for Legend of the Blue Sea, and rightly so as I liked this week’s two episodes more than the action heavy character thin episode 2. While the competition remained steady in the low single digits, Legend rose again in episode 4 to hit 17.1% AGB nationwide, a good sign … Continue reading →
I’m always impressed with stage actors even a step above their screen brethren, it takes an immense amount of confidence and practice to act live in front of an audience. I try to watch as many stage productions as available and always bemoan not living in a city with more offerings. Seoul is vibrant with theater culture in both stage … Continue reading →
Chinese drama-watching netizens can be hilariously snarky and in this case they overwhelming hate the K-remake of Bu Bu Jing Xin as much as I did. Moon Lovers doesn’t even hold up as a K-drama in its own right, much as as an adaptation of the source novel the Chinese did amazingly well already. Lots of viewers have been missing … Continue reading →
The reception for Legend of the Blue Sea doesn’t yet have the legs to show that it can be the vaulter hits like Descendants of the Sun and You From Another Star. So far I would be thrilled beyond thrilled that it break 20% but I’m relieved it’s staying steady as episode 3 came in at 15.7& AGB nationwide for … Continue reading →
I’m going to check out Shuttle Love Millennium for Puff Guo, and for all the pretty early Republic era costuming and set pieces in this just premiered new C-drama. It’s the so-called sequel to the Zheng Shuang and Jin Bo Ran hit drama Love Through a Millennium, which was the C-drama adaptation of the popular K-drama Queen In Hyun’s Man. … Continue reading →
