The content power rankings for Korean televisions programs for the entire year of 2017 is out and it’s a quite a feat that the leading show premiered in late 2016 and only aired three weeks into January 2017. tvN‘s fantasy drama Goblin from the screenwriter Kim Eun Seok and starring Hallyu superstar Goblin remains the content power ranking number 1 for the entire year of 2017, with no other drama or program about to unseat it in buzz and popularity. Even now the KBS fantasy romance drama Black Knight had to answer questions about any similarities to Goblin with the elements of immortality and multi-life romance. Coming in third is Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim which also aired in late 2016 and led the prime time K-drama ratings for the year if you count that it aired two weeks worth of episodes in early January 2017. This goes to show how weak 2017 shows were, with the remainder of dramas on the list being Defendant, Legend of the Blue Sea (also 2016 end), Chief Kim, Hwarang, Fight My Way, and Missing 9. K-media is taking stock of 2016 and the results are not exactly promising for the future of pre-producing K-dramas. What was once a rarity such as the mega budget Legend felt like a norm in 2016 with a slew of … Continue reading

The arrival of Hwarang this Monday night heralds the end of the 2016 K-drama cycle as the last major drama to premiere this year. It straddled many of the popular thematic elements in 2016 dramas – pre-filmed, flower boy packed … Continue reading

This is so disconcerting to see visual proof that the casting of upcoming KBS Mon-Tues drama Hwarang may indeed be wholly unsuitable for the sageuk setting and a potential slam dunk if moved to the modern times. The drama premieres … Continue reading

The arrival of Shilla flower boys is a little less than two weeks ago and I don’t know if KBS is relieved that the very low rated The Man Living in Our House is ending or worried that it’s sunk … Continue reading

The bar is set high for upcoming KBS Mon-Tues drama Hwarang, not necessarily because the drama is touting itself high but due to the recent slew of successful hits. There’s sageuk predecessor Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, medical dramas Doctors and … Continue reading

It can’t be just me who thinks that the male cast of upcoming KBS sageuk Hwarang looks like the Shilla power rangers. There’s the different yet fully coordinating awkward hair pieces, followed by the extremely colorful costumes that take flower … Continue reading

The level of likely fail headed our way with less than a month from the premiere of KBS sageuk Hwarang appears to be inching higher. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want the drama to suck and was quite looking … Continue reading

I’m having a hard time imagining that the costume designers for upcoming KBS sageuk Hwarang all agreed that it was a great idea to buy the wigs used for the male leads. It was with that or everyone is blind … Continue reading
