KBS is taking a page from the tvN playbook when it comes to casting an idol in a lead role and then backtracking due to the blow back. News broke on Monday that KBS had offered the female lead in upcoming Mon-Tues drama Taming Mother-in-Law (formerly called Killing Mother-in-Law) to Dasom of girl group Sistar. This is the new experimental … Continue reading →
It’s past the halfway mark of 2015 already and the networks are nearly finished lining up K-dramas through the end of the year. There remains a few working projects and time slots but it’s increasingly looking like actors and actresses that haven’t signed up yet for a drama land return will likely not be on the small screen this year. … Continue reading →
I don’t particularly miss Jaejoong being off in the army, nor am I all that happy he’s gone as if his presence was taking acting roles away from more qualified actors. He’s actually improved over the years, albeit inconsistently, but his recent leading man turn in Triangle is definitely a highlight of his acting career to date. Too bad he … Continue reading →
I almost never write about horror movies even though it’s an Asian film staple mostly because it’s not my thing. I also write more about dramas and there really isn’t a horror drama genre aside from the occasional dip into supernatural flourishes in some dramas. In my younger days I loved and watched tons of horror movies, Asian and Hollywood … Continue reading →
The visual feast of promos for Scholar Who Walks the Night fairly guarantees eye candy onscreen, and maybe that will be only positive thing about it. We’ll find out next Wed (who’s excited, I’m soooo excited!) but the chance of a hot mess doesn’t deter me from eagerly gobbling up every new tidbit from the production. Case in point – … Continue reading →
I feel like K-netizens have really strong opinions either way, and sometimes a fixed opinion can be near impossible to change whether good or bad. If a star messes up even once it’s basically in the image crapper, which does make it even more impressive the select stars in various age groups that remain in the K-netz good graces. The … Continue reading →
Ji Chang Wook is really taking his time with his acting career in 2015 after finishing up K-drama Healer in the early part of the year. He’s always given me the impression of being a scrappy go-getter, someone willing to take on projects to keep building his resume. I’d say he’s finally arrived with the one-two success of Empress Ki … Continue reading →
The promotion and watch experience for upcoming K-movie Beauty Inside is sure to be odd, and I don’t mean that in a negative way. The cast is filled to the brim with popular and critically acclaimed actors and actresses all in a guest-starring context, playing the same character of male lead Woo Jin and doing so with limited screen time … Continue reading →
I was initially not all that interested in upcoming cable network jTBC disaster drama D-Day, it sounded too ambitious for the ability of K-dramas to wrangle and the cast was decent without including a single must watch actor or actress for me. Starring Jung So Min, Kim Young Kwang, Ha Suk Jin, Kim Jung Hwa, and Sungyeol of INFINIITE, the … Continue reading →
Not sure what’s in the water in South Korea this week as a second dating breaking news has just dropped following the Lee Jong Seok–Park Shin Hye juicy on dit. Unlike the earlier dating reveal, this one had a quick and decisive turnaround from the moment the possible dating rumors and accompanying pictures leaked to the response from the two … Continue reading →
The biggest K-drama dud of 2015 so far has to be Hyde, Jekyll, Me, or at least the drama has to be the current front runner for that ignominious crown. A combination of sky high expectations with the drama being Hyun Bin‘s comeback drama since Secret Garden and then going off to the military coupled with one of the worst written … Continue reading →
I had a feeling Jang Hyuk wasn’t going to let 2015 sail off to the sunset without squeezing in another drama. His hardworking ethos is less veteran A-lister, which he is, and more rising actor wanting to keep challenging himself. K-news is reporting that Jang Hyuk and Han Chae Ah are in talks to headline the fall KBS Wed-Thurs drama … Continue reading →
Let’s get the positives out of the way first, which is that Kim Woo Bin and Kim So Hyun are two of the most buzzed about stars in K-ent this year and individually both look fantastic onscreen in the latest Dominos pizza ads. The CF itself has both gamely running through the dog and pony show, gushing over how yummy … Continue reading →
