The big-budget, big name cast (not to mention big bosomed) period C-drama The Empress of China is wrapping up after a wild seven weeks run that included censoring, wonky editing, and WTF historical inaccuracy all around. This wasn’t an idol drama and actually had legit cred with acclaimed C-actress Fan Bing Bing playing the Tang dynasty Empress Wu Zhe Tian, … Continue reading →
The imminent arrival of the C-version of Queen In Hyun’s Man brings back all my positive memories of the drama and none of the problems I had with it. It’s gotten the official English title of Love Through a Millennium which is a literal translation of the Chinese title 相爱穿梭千年. The drama premieres this Sunday night and airs two episodes … Continue reading →
It’s hard to top the ignominy of episode 7 of Hyde, Jekyll, Me, what with the ratings dropping to a measly 5.1% and losing to a KBS two episode filler special drama. At this point it’s basically a lost cause to try and resurrect the ratings, the drama would do better to just focus on telling whatever story it has … Continue reading →
It’s super assuring to see the upcoming MBC Wed-Thurs drama Angry Mom start filming already with over a month left in predecessor drama Kill Me Heal Me‘s run. Both leads Kim Hee Sun and Ji Hyun Woo are returning to MBC after a long hiatus and mixed success in their previous recent works on other networks. Their last dramas were … Continue reading →
The highly ambitious Hyde, Jekyll and I has turned out a huge bust for SBS, still waiting for a big domestic ratings hit in the Wed-Thurs time slot a year out from the last hit You From Another Star. Leads Hyun Bin and Han Ji Min got lots of buzz for pairing up to do the drama but the end result was … Continue reading →
I’ve blogged about plenty a fashion fail moments whether at awards shows or press conferences and the standard reaction remains the same befuddled look accompanied by the outburst of “da hell is he/she wearing?” Gu Hye Sun may have had her share of odd attire in the past but this one at the Blood press conference takes the cake. It’s … Continue reading →
The mostly incompetent writing and frequent shoddy directing continues in Hyde, Jekyll, Me, leaving me with so little to hang in there other than potentially switching to a fun snark watch session whereby I can let my silly asides fly while still savoring double the Hyun Bin goodness. The last ditch effort to massively rewrite this week’s episodes, and likely gutting … Continue reading →
There’s finally some concrete details about the next Hong Sisters penned K-drama, even if said details remain frustratingly slim. The drama is confirmed to air on MBC come early summer, taking over the Wed-Thurs time slot from spring drama Angry Mom, and will be followed in late summer with the vampire sageuk Scholar Who Walks the Night. It will also reunite … Continue reading →
The bad publicity keeps dogging SBS recently and I can’t help but feel it’s primarily self-inflicted by the bad decisions made by the network. There’s the desperate effort to revive audience interest in the flagging prime time drama Hyde, Jekyll, Me, and now even the popular SBS variety show Running Man is in hot waters due to an unfortunately thought … Continue reading →
I’ve been tapping my toes impatiently waiting for the C-remake of Queen In Hyun’s Man to drop me a video teaser or two. The pretty (so so pretty) drama stills are nice and all but I want to look at the mood in action. I remember being uninterested in Queen In Hyun’s Man until I watched the brilliantly done teaser … Continue reading →
Turns out the drama Hyde, Jekyll, Me is nothing like the story of the webtoon Dr. Jekyll Is Mr. Hyde even though it was licensed from that work. Begs the question of why bother, or if it was just to license the concept only without running afoul of copyright laws, then who in their right mind at SBS gave the … Continue reading →
I wonder how long the KBS Friday night drama experiment will keep going considering it’s now had two consecutive ratings and reception busts. The time slot was transitioned to airing dramas starting with Hi School: Love On! with Kim Sae Ron acting opposite two idol newbie actors in Infinite‘s Woohyun and Sungyeol. Next came the currently airing mommy issues with … Continue reading →
Leave it to Ji Sung to keep garnering positive buzz for his performance thus far in the MBC Wed-Thurs drama Kill Me Heal Me. It’s the current ratings leader even if the ratings are still low double digits as is the general ratings landscape for all the weekday prime time dramas. What marketers love isn’t just ratings but buzz, which … Continue reading →
