You would think with a string of disappointing Mon-Tues K-dramas from KBS I would be supremely reluctant to get excited about the upcoming Discovery of Love. It follows the disaster that was Lovers of Music (Trot Lovers), memorable only for Jung Eun Ji and some snappy trot covers, but it also comes from the production team with a track history … Continue reading →
This episode of Joseon Gunman is best summed up as “when everything goes wrong for everybody”. For once neither the good guys nor the bad guys get the upper hand, more like they keep trading shots in an unlimited salvo that will have to wait until next week to see which side reigns supreme. King Gojong is basically the most ineffective … Continue reading →
Hot on the heels of cable network tvN announcing that it would hold its own year end awards, the network trotted out the cast of its upcoming sageuk Three Musketeers for the obligatory press conference. If this drama is as good as the previous two from this production team, namely Nine: Nine Times Travel and Queen In Hyun’s Man, then … Continue reading →
I find it rather hilarious that every time I post about Park Shi Hoo now there will always be the inevitable slew of comments at either end of the schism. On one side are those who need to comment just to express the sentiment of never ever watching anything of his after his rape allegation legal investigation and media circus. … Continue reading →
Shin Mina is really effortlessly gorgeous whether she’s goofy or a goddess. She’s been exclusively in movie land for the last two years since Arang and the Magistrate in the Summer of ’12 so I haven’t really see her around much. Sure she’s in tons of CFs and can probably rest her laurels on that alone, but in terms of … Continue reading →
I no joke love love Joseon Gunman. Even when the action flags or there is a lull in the next narrative punch, the quiet moments are thoughtful and well integrated with the overall story it wants to tell. JG was never just a revenge tale, or revenge for the sake of personal catharsis or an aha justice-is-served moment. Everything was … Continue reading →
This is great news for fans of cable network tvN‘s stable of K-dramas – the network has just announced that it’s planning to hold the first year end awards this year. Year end awards from the big three networks SBS, MBC, and KBS are a staple in K-ent and I always have a blast covering it. The fashions, the easy … Continue reading →
I normally don’t post episode updates on Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You) since I’m not recapping and also because it’s been relatively uneventful to follow along with this drama. I said before it lacks sizzle from the crescendo excitement of a more passionate OTP romance but conversely hasn’t tripped up on stupid plot developments either. Coming from the same … Continue reading →
The 2014 K-drama couples reunion train keeps on chugging along and if this one comes true then it’s yet another notch in the rarified thrice-paired-up column. Jang Hyuk and Lee Da Hae are the most famous and prominent three time costars first with Bulhandang (Robber), then came Chuno (The Slave Hunters), and finally they landed in the quagmire of IRIS … Continue reading →
Bear with me as I lay out all the facts of this started off random and suddenly got even weirder casting call for an upcoming Korean-Chinese collaboration movie. The movie is adapted from a popular online C-novel called Xia Yo Qiao Mu, Ya Wang Tian Tang (夏有乔木，雅望天堂) and really has no meaning other than sounds really elegant in Chinese and … Continue reading →
Even if KBS fails (yet again) at doing a rom-com right from start-to-finish, at least it’s once again starting off right with Discovery of Love premiering next Monday. While it has been three years since Eric did a drama with the crazy Spy Myung Wol, he’s been busy with his singing career and variety shows so I feel like he’s … Continue reading →
This might be the weakest Mon-Tues line up in recent memory with all three dramas neither getting any buzz nor ratings. Temptation is actually intriguing without being tawdry but the subject matter isn’t for everybody while Lovers of Music (Trot Lovers) has a plot written by a monkey who watched too many K-dramas and is pasting together the worst tropes … Continue reading →
It has been the utmost pleasure watching Kim Yoo Jung grow up for the last decade before the eyes of K-drama viewers. Unlike child stars like Kim Sae Ron who broke out in high profile Chungmuro with movies like The Man From Nowhere (Ahjusshi), Kim Yoo Jung has been the go-to drama child actress for the better part of her … Continue reading →
