There are so many recently premiered K-dramas I’m watching right now but none have ignited the urge to recap until today when it was love at first sight with tvN‘s My Secret Hotel. I found the drama stylish and quirky, lovely to look at and with an interesting story to boot. The two leads in Yoo In Na and Jin … Continue reading →
It’s a relief to see the upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama My Lovely Girl (My Lovable Girl) filming in a low key manner after getting off to a relatively late start. Rain was confirmed early as the leading man but it took multiple rounds before the leading lady role landed with Krystal Jung. The majority reaction to her casting both in … Continue reading →
The biggest entertainment news this past weekend in the Chinese-speaking regions of Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong was the unconfirmed report that young A-list Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko (Ko Chen Dong 柯震東) had been arrested for drug use in Beijing. That was followed by even more unconfirmed reports that the sting also netted international blockbuster movie legend Jackie Chan‘s … Continue reading →
There will be a day where Aaron Yan fanservice isn’t enough to keep a drama afloat. That day may have arrived already towards the end of the just completed drama Fall in Love with Me which aired the last episode on Sunday. Judging from the number of viewers who stuck to it in the floundering middle for Aaron and finally … Continue reading →
I’m thoroughly enjoying watching the SBS Mon-Tues melodrama Temptation. It’s rounded the corner from the first half of its run and narratively everything is all shaken up. Whether a particular viewer likes the way things are unfolding depends on how one approaches Temptation. This is a story of four equally messed up adults, two very rich and two very poor, … Continue reading →
It’s nonstop working for Lee Seung Gi and I can’t complain if it means I get to see more of him in various settings. He wrapped the SBS drama You’re All Surrounded last month in mid-July, a project that shoulda coulda been better if it had a competent screenwriter at the helm. It was such a waste of the entire … Continue reading →
I don’t think anyone is taking this drama project seriously so go ahead and have a bellyful of laughs if you’re in need of unmitigated hilarity. The mash-up C-drama From the Stars Heirs (better translated as Heirs From Another Star 來自星星的繼承者們) has been in production for the last few months and is starting to release some filming goodies as it … Continue reading →
It’s complete utter love at first sight for tvN‘s upcoming “killing romance” My Secret Hotel, everything except for second male lead Namgong Min dressed like a human dalmatian. The cast of the quirky concept drama gathered for the press conference last week, a week chock full of K-drama press conferences left and right, with the drama airing this coming Monday … Continue reading →
Since I don’t watch Running Man there is no way I could have expected the thunderous turnout by the show’s Taiwan fans when the variety program descended on the island on August 11th for the first ever episode filmed there. Over 3000 screaming fans took over the arrival’s terminal to wait for the cast led by Yoo Jae Suk, Kwang … Continue reading →
I love mangas but I’m more particular these days about the new titles from mangakas I’ve never heard of with drawing styles that make me miss the good old golden days of the 80’s and 90’s stuff. That’s not to say a good story can’t be hidden in a less attractive drawing style or that I won’t wade through a … Continue reading →
I’m really looking forward to the upcoming OCN detective crime drama Bad Guys (Bad Boys). OCN seems to be the only Korean network that consistently tackles the genre, a genre that is a dime-a-dozen in J-doramas but is rarely seen in a drama land skewing towards romance or family affairs. Of the OCN thriller dramas, Vampire Prosecutor and TEN both … Continue reading →
The Taiwan drama gods are listening to my prayers because the third time will not be happening for the popular onscreen coupling of George Hu and Annie Chen. The WeiNi (or Winnie from their names Hu Yu Wei and Chen Ting Ni) couple hit it big for SETTV with the daily Love, Now and tried to recreate the magic with … Continue reading →
A benevolent drama god is putting Fall in Love with Me out of its misery this weekend, and probably freeing the remaining few viewers still watching along. I was actually stunned this drama is ending this Sunday at episode 20. Most SETTV live-filmed dramas end past 20 episodes and the few that are shorter have been pre-filmed so the ending … Continue reading →
