Congrats is in store for yet another accomplishment for this year’s Hallyu star breakout Song Joong Ki. already a well known and acclaimed young actor in South Korea but reached a much wider stage this year with the success of hit drama Descendants of the Sun. That success rocketed him to the top of the list of South Korean consumer’s … Continue reading →
Romance is legit blossoming in this week’s episodes 7 and 8 of Legend of the Blue Sea, still the ratings leader by far in the Wed-Thurs time slot but episode 8’s ratings stayed exactly the same as episode 7 at 17.4%. The drama still engages on the visual front with bits and pieces of narrative treats, but at this stage … Continue reading →
Chalk it up to the best cameo so far in the cameo heavy Park Ji Eun penned Legend of the Blue Sea. So far there’s been Krystal, Kim Sung Ryung, Ahn Jae Jong, Hong Jin Kyung, Park Jin Joo, and Cha Tae Hyun, all within the first 6 episodes, but episode 7 brought the previous SBS Wed-Thurs drama Incarnation of … Continue reading →
Slow and steady is the trajectory of SBS Wed-Thurs drama Legend of the Blue Sea, with both ratings and narrative pacing. Today’s episode 6 hit 18.9% AGB nationwide, a nice bump up from episode 5, and especially notable considering the competition remains mired in the low single digits of 5.5% for My Love Geum Bi and 4.6% for Weightlifting Fairy … Continue reading →
As far as I recollect Jeon Ji Hyun‘s top actress success has come without having done a sageuk role in either television or movies. She plays edgy spunky in iconic roles that some only see her ability in that temperament but I like her more when she’s understated and quietly broody. Her mermaid Shim Chung in Legend of the Blue … Continue reading →
This can’t be an easy drama to film but seeing the leads having so much fun makes the hard work worth it. SBS released new stills for Legend of the Blue Sea with Lee Min Ho and Jeon Ji Hyun candid shots from the set. I’m still in a hold position on this pairing, Legend of the Blue Sea is entertaining … Continue reading →
I don’t know if I’m the only one fascinated by how realistically beautifully the mermaid swimming scenes are in Legend of the Blue Sea. If anything it shows the commitment of the director in creating the most enchanting shots coupled with how game leading lady Jeon Ji Hyun is in swimming in waters both salty and saline. The BTS is … Continue reading →
The Chinese noose tightening on Hallyu continues and the latest high profile casualty is K-actress Jeon Ji Hyun losing her endorsement campaign for Chinese cellphone brand Oppo‘s newest handset the R9. Jeon Ji Hyun landed the campaign just one month ago in October and Oppo is reportedly paying a hefty price for her to be the R9 spokeswoman, much like … Continue reading →
The ratings tide is headed in the right and upward direction for Legend of the Blue Sea, and rightly so as I liked this week’s two episodes more than the action heavy character thin episode 2. While the competition remained steady in the low single digits, Legend rose again in episode 4 to hit 17.1% AGB nationwide, a good sign … Continue reading →
The reception for Legend of the Blue Sea doesn’t yet have the legs to show that it can be the vaulter hits like Descendants of the Sun and You From Another Star. So far I would be thrilled beyond thrilled that it break 20% but I’m relieved it’s staying steady as episode 3 came in at 15.7& AGB nationwide for … Continue reading →
It’s week two for Legend of the Blue Sea, with ratings to come in episodes 3 and 4 to show whether this drama is on the upswing or slowing down. I enjoyed the first two episodes but that was despite the seriously distracting elements of the modern day narrative. It was indeed too slapsticky for me, focusing too much on … Continue reading →
I’m not even surprised anymore when a drama becomes a hit and immediately encounters some sort of backlash. I do think this one may have some merit solely resting on the shoulders of the screenwriter. Netizens are buzzing about potential plagiarism issues with SBS drama Legend of the Blue Sea, and how valid it is depends on the degree of direct copying … Continue reading →
All eyes are on whether the new prime time K-drama ratings champion Legend of the Blue Sea will mark the fourth ratings winning drama of the year following Descendants of the Sun, Doctors, and Moonlight Drawn by Clouds. Four hit K-dramas in one year feels a bit like boom times after the dry spell in 2015, but nowhere near the heydays … Continue reading →
