When a beloved drama wraps filming always gives me the most bittersweet feeling. Sadness that it heralds the imminent end of the drama, happiness for the cast getting a rest and reprieve from what was surely a truly exhausting schedule of live-filming. Kim Da Hee (Da Hee of the girl group GLAM) posted a full cast and crew wrap picture … Continue reading →
Han Ji Min is in the pages of the July edition of Allure Korea and she’s not one of my favorite actresses that I follow but these pictures fairly jumped out at me to love it. The entire photo shoot took place all over Switzerland and for once the location shoot was featured as much as the beautiful model herself. … Continue reading →
So it’s going to be this way from now on, huh? I love me a well-made movie but when it comes my favorite actors or actresses I much prefer to spend months with them on a drama to build up the connection and story, but of course the drama has to be good which is getting rarer and rarer these … Continue reading →
The picture above speaks volumes, doesn’t it? It captures in an instant that very ephemeral thing called acting. Critics and audiences can discern good versus bad acting (unless fangirling gets involved and then that becomes like a veil of denial in itself), but its hard to really describe. I fall back on Justice Stewart’s enduring line from Jacobellis v. Ohio … Continue reading →
I love the filming of C-dramas even if most of the end product is crap. It’s all pre-filmed so the writing doesn’t do crazy about turns due to ratings or audience reaction, though many times it still does crazy about turns but that’s due to simply baaaaad writing. The directing remains consistent and the actors don’t look like half-death due … Continue reading →
Monstar is just layer upon layers of emotional goodness which extends out from all sides to ensnare the members of Color Bar all in their individual and interconnected angst. Episode 8 almost blew the lid off the simmering pot, almost but not quite yet. I’m pretty in awe of the writer-PD combo here, having worked together on Sungkyunkwan Scandal which … Continue reading →
It’s strange how expectation rises and falls with K-dramas that appear middling for whatever reason. Right now my interest in the upcoming Hong Sisters drama The Master’s Sun is increasing but I don’t know how long it’ll stay there. It’s increasing because this drama seems to be really embracing the dark side of its far-out concept. An ordinary girl discovers one day that she … Continue reading →
Way to do everything right on this masterpiece, Japan. For once I don’t need to send angry hate mail across the ocean. Last August the long-awaited live-action movie adaptation of the classic early Meiji period swordsman manga Ruruoni Kenshin (るろうに剣心) was released and proceeded to be even better than everyone dreamed, hoped, and prayed for. It was Da Bomb, that … Continue reading →
It’s official, Monstar is the first K-drama of 2013 that I am rabid about. Completely and utterly crazy in love with it, I sleep, eat, and worry for my little babies. Episode 8 was so amazing I have no words. Color Bar took a breather now that they are done prepping for their performance showdown with All for One and … Continue reading →
Will it be third time’s the charm for the upcoming period K-drama Age of Feeling (Inspiring Generation)? Will Kim Hyun Joong avoid the pitfalls that befell his last attempted drama comeback City Conquest? These two are some big what-ifs and the latest news reports indicate the two might dovetail. Back in February there were murmurings that Lee Jun Ki would be … Continue reading →
Huzzah, there be some Seol Chan-Se Yi goodness coming up in Monstar episode 8! Finally our Star gets his long awaited duet with the clueless Sheep girl, and unlike her duet with Sun Woo for the music evaluations which was done in public in front of other students, this one will be in the privacy of what looks like a … Continue reading →
These cute BTS pictures snapped by the cast on the set of Cruel City (Heartless City) are exponentially cuter once you take into account the context. The gritty and tension-laden noir thriller airing on cable network jTBC has crossed the halfway mark of its airing and is still as taut and well-written as ever. Starring Jung Kyung Ho, Nam Gyu … Continue reading →
Korea has done the I-see-dead-people conceit before in various concepts and the most recent one being 49 Days. That one took awhile to gell (I was particularly harsh on the plodding first few episodes and with good reason), but once it got going that was one of the most emotionally gripping dramas in 2011. One of the reasons for the … Continue reading →
