My poor discombobulated Seol Chan! One moment he’s a Star riding high on his popularity and potential, and the next minute he’s smitten by a Sheep Girl and stuck playing the tambourines in a cobbled together ensemble reluctantly collaborating because of the mutual threat of Poop. Can his life go from bad to worse? Around Min Se Yi, it probably … Continue reading →
HE’S BACK. Oh my god what rock have I been living under. Oh yes, a King-sized Flower rock, but goodness my radar should have pinged! One of the most talented singer-songwriters of the last few years in the Taiwanese music industry, other than Yen-J, can only be Bii. It has been two years since Bii has released an album after … Continue reading →
June is the start of the wedding season for normal folks and celebrities appear to be no different in electing to get married when the weather is warm and the days are long. Recently singer Baek Ji Young tied the knot with her younger man actor Jung Seok Won in a lovely ceremony in Seoul, with the newly married couple … Continue reading →
The funny thing about Monstar is that it has nothing on the surface that would entice me to watch, and if I had heard rave reviews about it before watching I might end up underwhelmed. The critical sweet spot for this K-drama is simply that it’s quite good. What does that really mean, to be labeled simply “good”? Quite a … Continue reading →
I might have to rescind my vow to take a break from SETTV, I might be able to stay away from the next Sunday night idol drama but the upcoming Thursday night offering looks way too cute for me to miss. Tentatively titled Just Want to Make You Love Me, the workplace rom-com starring Aaron Yan and Puff Guo is … Continue reading →
The allure of the new high school music K-drama Monstar is strong indeed. If I started watching when just one episode aired I would be as hooked as I am right now having watched the first three episodes. This is a drama that has its bearings and knows how to package the product nicely. There is the music theme woven … Continue reading →
Potential drama crack addiction alert! I’m still loving every minute of tvN’s Cyrano Dating Agency but I actually enjoy just watching it without the desire to recap it. The couple of the week stories are disposable narrative fun but nothing to write about, while the main cast is doing a fantastic job but their stories don’t yet have any meat … Continue reading →
Either Han Ji Hye has a taken man radar, or her married status leads to her co-starring with guys who are either married or about to tie the knot. Perhaps it’s a weekend drama thing, once an actor or actress lands in steady weekend drama work, they are usually in their thirties and thus statistically more likely to be married … Continue reading →
My Mon-Tues are rather quiet now that I’ve dropped Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love. Forget life being too short for bad dramas, life’s too precious to watch something so utterly aggravating it might cause me to have a brain aneurysm. Gu Family Book isn’t much better but at least its stayed consistent with its shortcomings. It’s also ramped up … Continue reading →
There are lots of folks curious about this high-profile celebrity couple and quite a few not expecting it to last. Taiwan actor Mark Chao, who broke out with TW-drama Black & White (and shockingly won the Golden Bell Best Actor Award in his first acting foray) and then hit the big leagues with TW-movie Monga, is dating his former movie co-star and … Continue reading →
I’m slowly unwinding from riding the King Flower train and this one needs a gradual debarkation process like any other drama that gets me all worked up. MC40, who plays harmless cheery Da Li, posted the picture above last night on the Da Mouth FB page and I thought it so cute and wonderful I had to share. James Wen … Continue reading →
I am totally wiped out from the marathon day of watching the final episode of a long-running drama and pounding out both a baby recap and a hella exhaustive recap proper. As I was getting ready to call it a day with anything drama related, suddenly my Lee Seung Gi radar pinged and wouldn’t you know it my baby boy … Continue reading →
Verdict – I love this drama, but holy god is it a hot mess. I am a relentless critic when I watch dramas, because otherwise why write about it? I’m pretty certain that I’ve made so many drama friends and foes here at the Playground because I speak my mind, whether its to call a spade a spade (i.e. this … Continue reading →
