As King Flower winds down, I’m trying to reach a state of zen whereby however this baby ends isn’t going to leave me a mess. I’m talking angry mess if Lin Guan Jun somehow gets a girl not named Hu Xiao Fei (because, let’s face it, even if he doesn’t get Da Hua, I hesitate to sic him on any … Continue reading →
I didn’t purposely neglect to share this awesome song when the Rich Man, Poor Woman SP first aired last month on April 1 (the airing date still feels like a joke without the punch line), but rather the actual track was not released until this week when singer-songwriter Miwa dropped her latest album called Delight. The album contains 11 tracks, … Continue reading →
So I took some folk’s suggestion and jumped back into Gu Family Book starting with episode 13. Don’t lie and argue that I needed to go back and fill in the last 8 episodes, ain’t nothing happened that needed to be watched and couldn’t be deduced swiftly upon diving into 13. If I want some Lee Seung Gi half man-beast … Continue reading →
Just when I thought Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love was hopelessly lost forever in a sea of makjang, stupid posturing, and painfully childish plotting, somehow this drama found a glimmer of its former thoughtfulness and glory in episode 14. It didn’t resurrect it completely, but the moments of sensibility here and there felt like a refreshing drink of water … Continue reading →
I’ve going to miss writing about King Flower. The recaps while swooning over Terry, the venting over the narrative impasse and the emotional misdirections, the preview translations that give me hope only to dash it when the episode airs. It’s been an exhilarating roller coaster ride and I sure hope I don’t barf when I get off when it pulls … Continue reading →
This might be the penultimate episode of King Flower but I have no clue because SETTV hasn’t confirmed if next week’s episode 20 will be the finale though it sure looks like it. I can’t believe it’s been almost 6 months since this drama premiered. Initially I watched casually and almost stopped around episode 5. Then the final 10 minutes … Continue reading →
Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love has gone cray cray and doesn’t look to be returning to sanity anytime soon. But you know what? Episode 13 (and to some extent bits of episode 12) contained genuine allusions to the former awesomeness of this drama. A scene here, a dialogue there, a throwaway look in passing – all of that is … Continue reading →
One of the reasons King Flower is such an easy watch for me is that I absolutely adore its sountrack. Every song, every instrumental, this drama just hit all my happy nodes with its song selection. Sadly its one of SETTV‘s lower rated Sunday night dramas in recent years so I doubt it’ll get a full OST release. *pouts and … Continue reading →
Look who’s here! If SBS shows scenes with Jae Hee‘s Hyun Chi Soo in the just released preview for episode 13 of Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love and he still doesn’t show up when the actual episode airs, I might just boycott this drama on principle alone. It’s wrong to the actor and wrong to the viewers to herald … Continue reading →
Well well well, it looks like next week may indeed be the last episode of King Flower. *Sobs* As much as this drama was cray cray, I’ll be so sad to see it go. It’s been such a long time since a TW-drama hook me this hard, and the addiction lasting all the way until the end. I noticed some … Continue reading →
When Korea gets on a thematic rampage, it usually takes a good year to get it out of their system. Who can forget the year with the sports drama theme, or when time-traveling heroes and heroines for de rigueur? I noticed that 2013 already has one super-woman-in-control drama Queen of the Office on, but in three weeks another queen will … Continue reading →
The existence of these two is why I continue to dip a toe into C-dramas even when the vast vast majority of its output is pure unadulterated crap. It’s not even addicting bad crap, it’s boring nonsensical crap. But seeing the newest and hottest onscreen C-couple flit around talk shows and leap off the screen at me as I watch … Continue reading →
It’s hard to believe that in Rainie Yang‘s twelve years in the TW-acting industry she hasn’t done a single period drama. Most if not all her compatriots have tackled wuxia and period dramas and movies aplenty during their career, almost always doing a C-drama or a HK-movie. Rainie did have a wuxia fantasy sequence to start Sunshine Angel, her rom-com … Continue reading →
