When Park Shin Hye got cast in Flower Boy Next Door and paired with Yoon Si Yoon and Kim Ji Hoon, I looked back through all her leading men and proclaimed that she must have saved a nation in her past life. Then she gets cast in Heirs alongside Lee Min Ho, and that assumption gets raised to saving a … Continue reading →
Let it be said that I am as perfectly capable of changing my mind as anyone out there. It’s a fallacy to assume that having an initial impression is making a judgment, all it involves is rendering a limited scope opinion with the facts available. I noticed that lately there have been so many dramas I’ve watched and dropped really … Continue reading →
I said SETTV probably put Chao Chun Ya in a time out last week for accidentally (purposely?) leaking a page from the script, but I think he deserves a flogging. It has caused a ripple effect across King Flower fandom and now the viewers resemble a bunch of zombies lurching away just waiting for the inevitable apocalypse to finish us … Continue reading →
What a difference six-months makes. Either that or chemistry really is that elusive that it can come and go as its pleases even between the same two people. With the proliferation of cross-country projects ranging from acting (such as Lee Da Hae in Love Actually with Joe Cheng) to variety (Gui Gui paired with Taecyeon for We Got Married: Global … Continue reading →
For those of you meeting Chris Wu for the first time through King Flower, it’s a pretty easy cake walk for him to play Terry/Ouyang Tai. It’s a testament to how amazingly deep he is as an actor that he makes such a superficially constructed rich chaebol heir into the main character of the drama and the only person who … Continue reading →
I’ve been thinking about Bu Bu Jing Xin often these past few days, the sequel is filming right now and the producers of the currently airing Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love referenced their drama as a Korean version of BBJX before it aired. I actually thought the first 8 episodes was a worthy successor to BBJX, with a heady … Continue reading →
With King Flower being one of the lowest rated SETTV Sunday night dramas in recent memory (thought its not as bad as Miss Rose or Love Forward and those garnered higher ratings), SETTV must be thrilled its follow up drama is sure to rake back in the viewers. Starring the hottest Taiwanese drama couple du jour George Hu and Annie … Continue reading →
It’s truly a pleasant surprise to see how my affection for Vanness Wu has grown over the years. He was the totally forgettable fourth F4 member in Meteor Garden, the one who was greasy and acted way too cool. As an actor he was bottom of the barrel for me, and as as singer he was merely serviceable as the … Continue reading →
As much as I love Taiwan and Japan dramas aplenty, one thing Korea has that can’t be matched is a treasure trove of talented child actors. They aren’t necessarily the cutest or the prettiest, but hot diggity some of them can easily out-act their adult counterparts, and then some. I’ve actually found some terrible K-dramas memorable because of the childhood … Continue reading →
The powers that be over at SBS are really the sole culprit I blame for the sudden and precipitous decline in narrative and visual quality for Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love. The cast is still delivering swimmingly (aside from the over-acting since day one Dowager Queen Kim but I treat her as a deranged piranha and leave it at … Continue reading →
I seriously cannot recall a year in K-dramas where there are so many sageuks in every shape and form, from primetime 24-episoders to daily dramas to cable thrillers. MBC especially is really stacking its line up with an unending line up of sageuks in the Mon-Tues timeslot – starting with the anniversary 50 episode sageuk Horse Doctor which premiered in late … Continue reading →
2013 really has been a year of K-drama casting randomness. I don’t think there has been a single lead pairing that I’ve longed to see, almost every one feels like it came out of left field and bonked me over the head. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t work, just that I never thought about putting those two together in the … Continue reading →
With episode 12 of Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love, the rumblings of the last few episodes are finally complete in its transformation. This drama has jumped the shark, people! It is now no longer a fusion sageuk romance with thoughtful political intrigue and subtle power plays. It’s now a full blown daily makjang drama wearing pretty hanboks and produced … Continue reading →
