Seediq Bale Shatters Box Office in Taiwan While Gaining Domestic and International Acclaim

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

For the last 10 days since it’s premiere in Taiwan on September 9th, 2011, a movie has been smashing box-office records, gaining critical acclaim, and dominating headlines and watercooler conversations. I can’t even have a party without someone mentioning Seediq Bale (pronounced See-dick bal-lay). Costing a whopping $24 million US dollars to shoot (the biggest budget for any Taiwanese movie … Continue reading →

Casting of Yoona in Love Rain with Jang Geun Seok is Finalized

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

I honestly did not plan to post two articles on Yoona back-to-back, but the drama gods work in mysterious ways. I’ve been hoping that Han Hyo Joo would, despite all the rumors and signs pointing the other way, accept the leading role in Love Rain (formerly called Love Rides the Rain) with Jang Geun Seok, because the alternative was that an actress … Continue reading →

Lee Min Ho and Yoona are Eider Friends

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Korean sportswear brand Eider is continuing their “Eider Friends” campaign, which launched last year with the pairing of Jang Hyuk and PIE, sending them all the way to New Zealand to scale huge cliffs and then do the bromance hug once they reached the peak. This time around, Eider has selected just-hot-off-City-Hunter Lee Min Ho and Yoona of SNSD to … Continue reading →

SMAP Kicks Off its 20th Anniversary Tour in Beijing

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Didja all know 2011 is the 20th anniversary of SMAP? I sure didn’t. Somehow it seems like the boys-to-men have been around much longer than that. But in boyband age, especially in Asian boyband age, it might as well be a centennial in terms of it’s significance. If they play their cards right, they can very well be the Rolling … Continue reading →

Lovely Third Teaser Released for Ring Ring Bell

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

There hasn’t been a single misstep in anything I’ve seen from the upcoming TW-drama Ring Ring Bell with Peter Ho and Janine Chang. I just like everything I’ve seen, from stills to all three teaser trailers. The latest one gives a glimpse of second male lead Xiu Jie Ke, who is a mighty fine actor and scene stealer in drama … Continue reading →

Zenkai Girl Episode 6 Recap

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

One thing Zenkai Girl has in spades, which is both a strength and a crutch, is how its issues are dealt with using such broad strokes. This is not a nuanced drama by any measure, and episode 6 cranks it up a notch with Hinata and the school play mirroring Wakaba and her confused heart. This episode was all about … Continue reading →

A Guide to the Princes of Bu Bu Jing Xin

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

This just might be THE funniest behind-the-scenes picture I have ever seen in my life. Oh what a bunch of clowns populated the set of Bu Bu Jing Xin. For all my spazzing about the drama, this time I’m loving something that really is top-notch quality in all three requirements: acting, directing, and script. Some of you may find yourself … Continue reading →

Always with So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo Releases Official Trailer

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

This movie? So lovely. This official trailer? So damn spoilery! I mean it, so don’t watch unless you want a major plot twist revealed before we’re even at the final few seconds. But I don’t care, everything about Han Hyo Joo and So Ji Sub’s chemistry rubs me the right way. Plus the last shot of So Ji Sub’s face … Continue reading →

Song Seung Heon Makes Ahjusshi Clothes Look Smexy

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

It’s no secret most Korean celebrities endorse something, and when a guy has a great a physique as Song Seung Heon, it’s a no brainer to have him shill for a men’s clothing line. My Heon oppa hasn’t done or lined up a project since wrapping My Princess back in March, but prior to that he did churn out two … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

So near, yet still so far away. Namoo Actors just issued a press release that basically confirms the fan speculation in recent days that the ever lovely Moon Geun Young has left Korea for a short study abroad experience. She’ll be in New York City until mid-November as she takes English classes and does what any twenty-something living in Manhattan … Continue reading →

Just a reminder that a new TW-drama is premiering this Sunday, the friends-turned-lovers In Time With You with Ariel Lin, Bolin Chen, Sunny Chan, and a slew of recognizable Taiwanese actors. At the helm is Director Winnie, making this his third collaboration with Ariel. FTV released a twenty-minute preview that is pretty detailed, and really connects with me purely on … Continue reading →
