It’s midway point for tvN Sat-Sun drama Vincenzo and boy do I need a breather. Each episode is like a mini-movie at nearly 1.5 hours long, full of twists and turns and quiet lovely moments. The ratings hit a small new high at 11.375% and I once again wish the first 2 episodes did a better job at keeping the … Continue reading →
Yay it’s finally here! This Monday is the premiere of new SBS sageuk Joseon Exorcist, returning the network a drama in that Mon-Tues time slot after Penthouse finished its first season and moved the second season to Fri-Sat. It’s a huge cast that includes veteran Kam Woo Sung as the King and Seo Young Hee as the Queen, male leads … Continue reading →
The early 2021 rumor that Chinese authorities were going to tamp down on C-dramas adopted from Chinese BL novels (boy love novels or 耽美 which means indulging in beauty) have proven not to happen as this year’s biggest hit so far 3 months in is wuxia drama Word of Honor (山河令 Shan He Ling or Mountain River Order) adapted from … Continue reading →
Things can’t keep going our heroes way in Vincenzo and the early successes are giving way to a true fight back from the baddies at Babel and their henchmen. Episode 9 had less comedy and a lot more death(s), which I should be surprised to see since the drama offed Lawyer Daddy so early by episode 3. Joon Woo is … Continue reading →
The upcoming K-drama Daebak Real Estate (Haunted Real Estate) is really catching my interest despite leads Jang Nara and Jung Yong Hwa neither being my faves. Her character feels like a cross between Oh Yeon Seo‘s character in Hwayugi and IU‘s character in Hotel Del Luna, an exorcist who is also a cold boss lady type. That plays against type … Continue reading →
When I saw this post circulating among K-netizens it was such a walk down memory lane. Both dramas aired in 2010 and then it felt like such hope for the new creative and emotional heights for K-dramas in the start of that decade. Netizens decree that two dramas Cinderella Unni (Cinderella’s Stepsister) and Will it Snow for Christmas are both … Continue reading →
KBS young romance sageuk River Where the Moon Rises hasn’t been the awesome drama I had hoped it would be but now I have not one more but two more potential sageuk romance dramas to look forward to in the latter half of 2021. There is Hong Chun Gi with Kim Yoo Jung and Ahn Hyo Seob of course, but … Continue reading →
It’s nice to see a casting rumor come true if it’s someone I think is a really good fit for the project. K-actor Park Hyung Sik is finishing up his military service and all eyes are on his comeback project. I wrote in December 2020 that he was angling to be the male lead for the K-drama adaptation of the … Continue reading →
The fallout of the February spate of bullying allegations continues albeit less fast and furious. Young actor Jo Byung Gyu was on the verge of total breakout after three consecutive hit dramas Stove League, Sky Castle, and The Uncanny Counter is not on ice. He was accused by former classmates of bullying, he has denied it, but it appears his … Continue reading →
I’ve been watching tvN Wed-Thurs drama Mouse in a bubble, trying to assess and enjoy without stacking it against nearly identical serial killer jTBC drama Beyond Evil or analyzing outside of what I am seeing. But with episode 6 I went back to the production sheet, I write about so many dramas I don’t keep track of who is the … Continue reading →
This is such a cool find from K-netizens and once it’s been pointed out I retroactively see it and flash through my rolodex of past dramas. The prime time Big Three networks KBS, MBC, and SBS have been producing dramas for decades and each has an unique reputation among viewers for the genre, quality, and style of dramas it favors. … Continue reading →
Woah, The Witch is morphing into awkward exes! Movie stars Kim Da Mi and Choi Woo Shik are reuniting in the small screen later this year for the romance K-drama That Year Us produced by the company that did True Beauty. I’m super surprised to hear these two pick a romance drama since it doesn’t seem like their style but … Continue reading →
Episode 5 of Mouse can probably be a standalone episode because it left me speechless. The tactics were frustrating to deliver the crescendo but the emotional impact really washed away all the nonsensical, coincidental, and absurd events that needed to deliver the gut punch. I can’t believe the Korean police would allow a live show with call in to catch … Continue reading →
