It’s here, the first teaser preview for the K-drama version of My Sassy Girl, taking the hit movie from the early Hallyu days and doing a sageuk twist nearly two decades later. I actually think the viewing audience doesn’t even need to be familiar with the original movie to want to watch this, the story lends itself to the typical … Continue reading →
Leave it to a high fashion publication like W Korea to leave me amused and befuddled at the same time. Additional pictures are out of the magazine’s April edition pictorial featuring top Hallyu star Song Joong Ki, and this complete look at the concept makes me wonder who at the magazine needed a business trip out to the desert to … Continue reading →
This is the perfect spokesperson for a very worthwhile day to highlight as a pass time that has endured through centuries is slowly eroding under the speed of modern technology. April 23rd was World Book Day as sponsored by the UN, a day to remind folks of the pleasures and pursuits of reading a good old-fashioned tome. TW-actor Mark Chao … Continue reading →
There’s a new player in K-drama production as the field clearly must be lucrative enough to still get companies willing to invest despite the drops in advertisers and licensing revenue. Music agency powerhouse YG Entertainment, home of one of the top boy idol group Big Bang and now disbanded girl group 2NE1, is branching into drama production by forming the … Continue reading →
Slapstick looks to be the dominant element in upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Suspicious Partner, or at least that appears to be the case judging by all the previews so far. There was the election dance spoof and now there is a beat up the poor besotted male lead moment first teased as a romantic moment. At least female lead Nam … Continue reading →
Today was opening ceremony of the 2017 Jeonju International Film Festival, the 18th year of the smaller and less internationally known cousin to the Busan International Film Festival. There are still a ton of Korean actors and actresses who work solely or primarily in film and I always find myself wondering who they are. But as long as any of … Continue reading →
The recently premiered J-dorama You Are My Destiny is off to a solid start and I’m liking what I’ve seen so far after episode 1. It’s not as cracktastic as male lead Yamashita Tomohisa‘s last dorama From Five to Nine with Ishihara Satomi, but this one I’m enjoying the random fun chemistry with the co-male leads Yamapi and Kamenashi Kazuya. … Continue reading →
The Time Magazine 100 Most Influential People list is out for 2017 and the only Asian entertainer to land on the list this year is Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing. Not only was she riding solo, she made the list not in the Artist category but in the Icon category. Nice! Fan Bing Bing has reached iconic status in Chinese … Continue reading →
Edgy is not what I think whenever I picture Park Min Young, so much of my first impression of her remains fixed from her breakout role Sungkyunkwan Scandal days. Yes, it’s been 7 years since that drama aired in 2010 and so much has changed then with her and her three male leads, but that impression of her being sweet … Continue reading →
Summer feels like its around the corner when I see the latest beach pictorial of Gong Yoo for the brand Discovery Expedition. The outdoor wear trend in South Korea doesn’t look like its slowing down in any way and beaches of Busan and Jejudo seem perfect to catch a wave. Sometimes a brand model doesn’t come across as the perfect … Continue reading →
Looks like the whole “fake news” bit is moving over to China and over some totally silly pregnancy questioning. Married Chinese stars Huang Xiaoming and Angelababy welcomed their first child earlier this year in January 2017, the baby boy nicknamed Little Sponge and has yet to make his public debut. The new parents have been enjoying life with a newborn … Continue reading →
It’s a good week for Park Hae Jin, first with the positive critical feedback and high ratings of his jTBC drama Man to Man and now with the first stills released of the upcoming K-movie adaptation of Cheese in the Trap. The movie solely brings back Park Hae Jin from the cast of the 2016 drama version while Oh Yeon … Continue reading →
Filming is underway for MBC‘s next long weekend drama Bad Thief, Good Thief, intriguing both for breaking out of the typical family stories mold for weekend fare and for the nice mix of main leads. Starring Ji Hyun Woo, Seohyun of SNSD, Kim Ji Hoon, and Im Joo Eun, the drama centers around thieves disrupting the shadowy operations of a … Continue reading →
