With Lee Bo Young winning the Daesang at the 2013 SBS Year End Drama Awards, this caps off an actress sweep of the Daesangs across all three major networks. Her drama I Hear Your Voice was both a ratings hit for SBS and very well received by critics and audiences alike so in addition to Lee Bo Young her co-star Lee Jong Seok also took home a shiny actor prize himself. SBS spread out the love more than the other networks with a few acting awards going to most of its popular dramas. The only surprise was the complete shut out of Yawang which was one of its biggest ratings hit all year but I figured as much when I heard Soo Ae wasn’t attending this ceremony. So Ji Sub took home an award for The Master’s Sun but his co-star Gong Hyo Jin didn’t attend either. Both Jo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo won for That Winter, the Wind Blows as did Nam Sang Mi and Kim Ji Hoon for Goddess of Marriage. As expected, Heirs did really will for leads Park Shin Hye and Lee Min Ho as they both took home acting prizes and a best couples award. The only acting win that I was genuinely thrilled about was Song Dong Il getting recognized for Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love, which made up for the rest of the cast getting shafted despite them doing a stellar acting job and it was completely the fault of the second half writing collapse to blame for this drama’s crazy detour. If Suzy can win an acting award over at MBC its high time Kim Tae Hee got one especially since she was really stellar in JOJ. The outfits at the SBS awards actually made me sit up a little compared to the ones at KBS and MBC. I loved Jung Eun Ji‘s bright primary color one shoulder dress while Lee Bo Young rocked all her sleek and sophisticated dresses as the MC and accepting her Daesang. Park Shin Hye’s dress and hairband low pony tail was so dull she looked like a virginal debutante at her first ball, but Lee Min Ho continues to playfully navigate the awards circuit this month. I have to thank SBS for finally had some major fashion fails and we have So Ji Sub to thank for showing up as a magician wearing palazzo pants. Lee Jong Seok was no better with his hair bleached blond and wearing an ornate suit with a great coat over it. The network also had a cute photo booth backstage where the stars snapped pictures that certainly added to the more playful atmosphere all around. Continue reading

I can’t say 2013 has been a great year for me on the personal front, and that sentiment extends to the drama offerings I’ve sampled this year. On the upside is a general feeling of acceptance and I don’t mean … Continue reading
Kim Bum is singlehandedly giving a lesson on living the jetsetting lifestyle. Even for an entertainer his non-stop travels seem a bit extreme, though his country hopping in Europe last month was some well-earned time off with new girlfriend Moon … Continue reading
I have no clue what Kim Bum‘s agency King Kong Entertainment was thinking when it talked to the press today and revealed that Kim Bum and Moon Geun Young was set to return from Europe back to Korea this weekend. … Continue reading
That Winter, The Wind Blows is so beautiful its like a Winter watercolor painting come to life. But for some reason it leaves me cold when I watch it. This is rather apropos for the title, but not good for … Continue reading
That Winter, The Wind Blows makes me simultaneously feel squicky and shivery. The intensity radiates off the screen but it’s not always the appropriate kind. Currently I can’t fully enjoy the OTP moments, because its all predicated on Oh Soo … Continue reading
That Winter, The Wind Blows might as well be called the Jo In Sung show. The camera LOVES this man. For the first three episodes I was trying to immerse myself into the story and get a feel for what … Continue reading
I like both leads of That Winter, The Wind Blows, and their characters and interactions are definitely compelling and rife with potential for sucking me in. With that said, while Jo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo are getting all … Continue reading
Now that That Winter, The Wind Blows did something new in airing the first two episodes back-to-back yesterday and then episode 3 today, I might become spoiled and want all future K-dramas to premiere this way. I think it worked … Continue reading
Watch. This. Drama. Now. I wish I could end this recap right here, but alas there is so much awesome in episode 2 I don’t even know where to start. Now this is what I call finger lickin’ good melodrama! … Continue reading
The Wed-Thurs primetime K-drama battle is back on this week with some low-rated dramas finally ending last week and two potential powerhouse contenders joining the race. I saw the real time ratings and it’s neck-to-neck today, so the final ratings … Continue reading
A good melodrama takes a central conceit and fleshes it out, allowing the narrative to morph as the characters develop and information is shared. A bad melodrama beats its one main purpose into the ground and stomps on it a … Continue reading
I felt a cold arctic breeze waft by recently and it was a combination of an evil malware attack on the Playground and watching the long 9-minute trailer for That Winter, The Wind Blows. Man, this thing better not blow … Continue reading
