Wahhhhh, I’m already salivating for Heard it Through the Grapevine and the drama doesn’t disappoint with the first intriguing teaser. Normally I get excited over the casting of a drama but this one has me roped in to watch PD Ahn Pan Seok‘s first prime time drama in seven years, not since the award-winning White Tower on MBC has he done a drama for the big three networks. His cable dramas since White Tower have all been met with critical raves and award-fodder for the leads lucky enough to be cast in A Wife’s Credentials, The End of the World, and Secret Love Affair.
Heard it Through the Grapevine veers away from the adultery theme in his recent dramas and is touted as a black comedy take on teen pregnancy set within an old-school image driven chaebol family. Starring Yoo Joon Sang, Yoo Ho Jung, Lee Joon, and Go Ah Sung, this drama is clearly cast for substance over style and I couldn’t be happier. Heard it Through the Grapevine takes over for Punch on SBS Mon-Tues and is slated for a 32-episode run. Punch is currently the ratings leader and clearly the audience is open to darker more serious dramas so Grapevine has a shot when it premieres on Feb 23rd. Continue reading
