Hunan TV Broadcasts Medical Relief and Romance Drama Fireworks of My Heart with Yang Yang and Wang Chu Ran

So the recent tidal wave of C-drama releases have all been on streaming networks but the first big terrestrial broadcast is here with Hunan TV airing Fireworks of My Heart (My Fireworks on Earth) starting July 5th. It’s streaming on Hunan TV’s own Mango TV online platform but for the international release it’s going on iQiyi so this is a broad release that signals Hunan is looking at this as the summer kick off hit. Starring Yang Yang and Wang Chu Ran, with special guest performances by second leads Zhang Bin Bin and Yang Chao Yue, the drama reminds me (and C-netizens) of Descendants of the Sun with the male lead as a firefighter captain doing disaster rescue and the female lead being an ER doctor.

Hunan TV Broadcasts Medical Relief and Romance Drama Fireworks of My Heart with Yang Yang and Wang Chu Ran — 20 Comments

  1. Checked out the first 6 episodes and I must say am not really impressed with the drama for now. The chemistry seems a little bit off despite the fact that leads were rumoured to be dating and none of the characters seem to be likeable at this, I can’t root for any them.

I could get past all the negatives for now but I don’t know if I could for 40 episodes,l. Why do they even need 40 episodes?. I was expecting something close to You Are My Hero but I was left disappointed.

  2. Its really boring so far. I’m continuing for the visuals but would drop it when something more interesting comes along. You Are My Hero was more interesting from the get go.

  3. What made me found the book interesting was how unlikable the FL was. Her mannerism/behaver were more the typical tough leading man we seen in drama land. She really was indifferent who couldn’t care less about other people’s business or complaint. She is simply there at the hospital to do her job w/out building relationship with others. Leading man too doesn’t like to talk, but he fell hard for leading lady and would often try his best to communicate w/ her. He was more of what people proceed “bad boy type” who has a temper ect. Somehow he manage to crack through the FL when they were young and even later in life when they meet again.

This live adaptation failed to deliver the tone of the leads right from the beginning (perhaps bad casting…). The leading lady’s soft tone of speaking is getting annoying as well. As an actress, don’t be afraid to look ugly or make people hate you… your tone should convey your emotion and she is really one note here (But then again maybe it’s what the direct wanted). Also, she is practically the same character she portray from her last leading role ( Have a crush on you) where she’s also a Doctor. I’m really trying to like this actress, but so far it’s been 0 for 2.

When these 2 were casted, I felt they didn’t fit the character of the novel. After watching 4ep, my verdict still stand. If you take a book as an adaptation, you better keep what is essential, because then it just become like all other Cdrama that’s been done before.

    • Yeah I feel like although her visual match what I think of xu qin, her character setting is a bit off. Xu qin shouldn’t be kind, she shouldn’t be able to easily get close to anyone, she should be taciturn not knowing how to befriend anyone. Even the setting of her home makes me disappointed, her apartment was always described as constantly in darkness, with no life in it, not much thing in the house. The setting in the drama just makes her a boring character. It does not convey how depressed she is and what’s different abiut her when she is with song yan.

Although I’m not satisfied, I’m still going to watch this, because I want to see how they potray the plot of novel. As far as I watch, they don’t change much of important plot, but if they even change the plot. I’ll just watch it for the intimate scenes 🙁

  4. Fluff:

Apologies for dropping my two cents, but if you prefer a disaster drama where the ML is also a firefigther, imo “A Date with the Future” would be a better choice than “Fireworks of my heart.” It was charming at the get go. The firefighter played by William Chan (first time to watch him) may not be as popular than Yang Yang (have watched his other dramas), but I think he is a better actor, imho. Also, the actress here I think was a mores suitable choice for the role of a broadcaster. Overall, the drama managed to be entertaining and heart-warming, which was made possible by the plot and all the other side characters, some plotholes notwithstanding, of course.

    • Nahhh date with the future is literally the worse, the female lead is just sick, plain stalker. They don’t even know each other but she kept sticking on him and feed nonsense how he should date her because he rescued her arghhh

No to mention the amount of fl going into danger zone and then having ml save her, is she stupid or something???

Remembering it makes me angry argh, fireworks of my heart only has ep 8 currently so I can’t say for sure, but at least the two people had relationship back then, it’s not completely illogical seeing their action.

Date with the future on the other hand, just what did the writer thought when they write her character????

      • yeah FL is so red flag. it just plain stalker and just a big no. forcing someone to like you? god, if it was done by male people would go nuts but because it was female would make it cute? noo. and it has 40 ep but on ep 6 just getting boring. somehow it just a repeat of other drama.

    • Huhu. I just finished a date with the future and it was super cute and fluffy. I thought this YangYang drama is actually a copycat of it coz there is also a dog in William Chan’s drama.

    • you’re being ridiculous for making an early conclusion that adwtf is better than fomh while the later only just aired it’s 8 episodes from 40 episodes. it’s kinda of low for promoting the former this way. and for accusing fomh to copy cat adwtf, i just don’t understand how is that possible? just from the dog? fomh is literally following the novel plots. i fail to see how they copy adwtf coz they are literally filming this last year. not after adwtf airing time.

  5. The poster with dog almost like copy paste from Descendents of the Sun with modification. I have not check this one out yet so no comment on the drama 😀

  6. I tried the novel and couldnt get into it. I didnt like FL character. They cast 2 high profile males but both the 2 actresses are underwhelming. Pretty but underwhelming. Its a drop for me.

  7. Most C dramas have no creativity with traits of copying from other dramas. So I feel watching recycled scenes, plots, settings all over. Pretty boring. There are very few C dramas I ever sat through without skipping a scene. That’s why I stay as a Kdrama fan not C drama fan even my fave is a C actor.

I don’t plan to watch this drama cuz I found Yang Yang’s acting ability is limited even though he’s got a few popular dramas under his belt.

  8. come back here just to say this drama data already topping 1st some of the charts like datawin, vlinkage, and maoyan. yangyang character also scored >>9.2 in vlinkage. so for those 2 haters and karens who belittling yangyang and his liulang power in the previous posts. ate this. prepare yourself that you gonna see his data the drama data will keep rising.

  9. There are quite a few different drama rating services in C ent. Based upon the most recent ratings released as of 7/9/2023, the top three popular dramas currently aired are The Longest Promise, Destined, and Fireworks of My Heart. Different rating sites gave different ranking, alternating among these three dramas; each one is ranking top 1 on some but not all of the rating sites.

Statistics is part of my basic professional skills for my job. I want to clarify that any statistics rely on the statistical method and assumptions used. Therefore, we professionals always carefully interpret what statistics suggest. Take the drama ratings for example, how come there’s different ranking among different rating services? That’s because each rating company uses different statistical (sampling) methods and assumptions to collect, analyze, and evaluate data related to the dramas they rated. Therefore, to say these three dramas are popular is fair. But declaring any one of the three is THE MOST popular drama now is ignorant of statistical biases behind the ratings.

Now based upon different ratings, I observe fans just take those in favor of their idols, claiming people critical of their idols haters, and dismiss those ratings not in favor of their idols. LOL. Why not talking about Vlinkage and other ratings?

Per Weibo hot searches, people raves about the 2nd male lead of FoMH more than Yang Yang and are critical of YY’s acting with the same issues again that I can’t disagree with. I like some of YY’s dramas and had followed him since The Whirlwind Girl. He exudes aura of those heroes in the dramas adapted from some modern JJWXC novels. He’s charming in Love 2O2 and You Are My Glory. But I found his acting range pretty limited other than JJWXC romance. I checked all his dramas before just to see if he improved or not but was disappointed. Therefore, I decided to skip Fireworks of My Heart. I don’t want to waste time feeling unsatisfied at the end or watching 2nd lead stealing spotlight.

    • those 3 (vlinkage, maoyan, and datawin) are always used as an indicators for drama’s achievements/ battle achievements reports by netizens including artists’ studios in china. other ppls and karens can be in denial as much as they can, but the data can’t lie. fireworks of my heart already top 1 in the datawin, top 1 vlinkage for tv series, and top 1 for maoyan tv series. it’s also becoming top 1 for maoyan weekly. yunhe already becomes top 3. weibo top 2/3. i didn’t use aiman, coz even the most top liulangs’ drama didn’t chart well in aiman. but I agree. it’s IGNORANT to say only 1 drama is popular while others AREN’T. other dramas charts well in other charts too. but it’s even IGNORANT to deny straightly the actors’ achievements. example: he is not a liulang and will never be like in the other posts lol.

and it’s up to you if you want to rely and use black drafts to step on yy while wdc didn’t even chart in vlinkage popular characters 😂 not even enter top 20 ok 🤣 using a black drafts to step on yy is one of a typical haters behaviour, even tho you seem to mask your behaviour here. so yeah. keep using that drafts. tbh, we fans just laughed whenever ppls used that wdc antics to belittle yy coz it’s clearly a black draft 🤣

and you mentioning his other dramas but not gosf already tell a lot that u actually didn’t follow his career that much. or perhaps you’re only a romance drama enthusiast. but no worries, I’ll not insist you to watch his other dramas especially this fomh. not worthy. oh btw, Phd in statistics ed here ✌️.

      • Given your ed background, then you should know how ratings work even though I don’t know what statistics ed is about bcz I myself is a PhD in math and a certified actuary in practice. LOL

Currently Vlinkage top 1 role ranking is not YY’s character in FoMH, but XZ’s character in The Longest Promise. Also based upon streaming/reading volumes of their Weibo posts, YY’s popularity is indeed far behind XZ if that somehow indicates XZ may have a way larger fanbase than YY. There’re many other rising young actors who’s been doing pretty well in romance dramas. Yet to see YY’s transition to other genres successfully. That’s why I said that YY’s going downhills in acting career (unless he will breakthrough his bottleneck soon because he’s also getting old quickly). I’m not his hater and I did follow and check ALL his dramas until now. I have no intention to diss him but hope he finds the way to polish his acting chops.

      • hahaha.. good for you 😂. but i think you failed in understanding my comments here. never in my comments showing that I’m compairing him with xz and the longest promise. is there any in my comments mentioning abt yangyang is better than xz in all aspects? no. in fact, all I’m talking abt is how yy is still a liulang, and how fomh is doing good in many charts. unlike many other karens who had DENIED and BELITTLE his traffic power. like one karen said: he isn’t a liulang and never will be lol. he still has that traffic. meanwhile xz is a wall. i won’t deny that. the longest promise is having good achievements as well. but at the end of the day, I’m not compairing these two. my focus is only on yy and fomh achievements. I’m praising fomh doesn’t mean I’m belittling other dramas 😂

talking abt vlinkage data, yes he is at the top 2. using your own words, top 2 is still popular. currently his data >9.2, which is a good value. and the trend is just keep increasing everyday. i wouldn’t be surprised if his data reach 9.3 next time.

Diss all you can abt his acting. i don’t care. it doesn’t really bother me anyway. all actors eventually are getting old. coz i and his other fans know his acting is good and has so many improvements, especially his emotional scenes. i really enjoyed so much watching his crying scenes in who rules the world and glory of special forces. so others’ invalidation abt his acting doesn’t change my opinions abt his acting. coz i know when they said they had watched his previous dramas, in fact they only use his 1 or 2 other dramas as a reference.

ok i won’t entertain you anymore. I’ve said all of the important points that i want to say.
