The second episode of tvN Sat-Sun drama Memories of Alhambra got 7.363% AGB nationwide ratings, a slight drop from the premiere episode but still very strong for a cable drama. I know folks will compare with the premiere two episodes earlier this week of the other high profile tvN drama Encounter (Boyfriend), in the Wed-Thurs slot doing over 8% in … Continue reading →
Korea’s online shopping portal SSG has really scrapped the top of the K-ent food chain in inking both Gong Yoo and Gong Hyo Jin as its spokesmodels. The two are versatile and have the figures to make any outfit look good. Bonus points for starring in classic Hallyu era K-drama Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy so there’s the undeniable and … Continue reading →
For an event called the Asia Fashion Awards I didn’t see much interesting fashion. I think the attendees and performers that I saw looked fine but it wasn’t nearly as couture or inventive as some of the other events recently such as the Golden Horse Awards. The highlight was the attendance of Japanese top singer-actor Kimura Takuya, and reuniting with … Continue reading →
Congrats to tvN for premiering two high profile K-dramas in the same week and having both knock it out of the park in terms of ratings. Second to arrive Memories of Alhambra brought in 7.5% AGB nationwide ratings, the second highest Sat-Sun premiere after Mr. Sunshine which broke 8% with Goblin in third getting over 6% in its first episode. … Continue reading →
You win some you lose some, and TW-actor Roy Qiu‘s career is a open book example of all the high and lows. From his promising early days to dating tabloid stories that overshadowed his acting projects to now transitioning successfully into film, he’s been one of Taiwan’s most talented actors despite his prickly personality off screen as a purported love … Continue reading →
There is just an across-the-board level of top fashion fail at the Jimmy Choo shoe brand event in Seoul this week it almost ruins the mostly good footwear on display. Nearly every star wore black so it made singers and dating couple Hyuna and E’Dawn look even more woefully out of place, like they wandered into the event stoned from … Continue reading →
Another boy (now man) is back in town after a stint in the military, though I confess I didn’t really feel his time away much. K-actor Jung Il Woo was discharged from the military today, capping off nearly 2 years of mandatory service and returning in time for the holiday season. He’s also returning with a drama offer accepted in … Continue reading →
I’m going to come right out and say that I freaking love love love tvN drama Encounter (Boyfriend). In fact, I wish the English title stuck with the direct translation of the Korean title of Boyfriend, however generic is it this drama currently centers around the titular future boyfriend and makes so much emotional sense that I’m hooked. Domestic viewers … Continue reading →
This sounds like such a great trip potential work-related program and I’m so jelly/happy that Moon Geun Young is making her small screen return in two years with this cool concept. She traveled last month to Ushuaia, Argentina to shoot a KBS show called The Private Lives of Animals, capturing the awe inspiring glory of animals in their natural habitat. … Continue reading →
If someone had a really difficult last decade I think HK-actress Cecilia Cheung can be a contender. Since 2008 when the Edison Chen scandalous pictures shocker turned HK-ent upside down, Cecilia was hit the hardest because the most salacious and highest volume of pictures were of her when she was dating Edison. Plus she was by 2008 married to top … Continue reading →
In K-ent it always seems like the wrongdoers get away with it more easily but this is one misbehavior and likely criminal behavior that appears to be going down the proper legal channels. C-actor Jiang Jing Fu has turned himself into Japanese police for the charge of domestic violence, which is just assault and battery that happens in a home … Continue reading →
The Asia Artist Awards are the true purveyors of a popularity contest and if it wasn’t for actors and actresses getting random awards along with the idol and pop stars I’d probably not cover it. This year the highlight was the four very very famous idol-actresses above showing up at the same event – IU in white, Suzy in grey-moss, … Continue reading →
Well we have the answer to whether the highly hyped tvN Wed-Thurs drama Encounter (Boyfriend) with Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum would bring in the ratings. Oh boy did it ever! Encounter just set a new tvN premiere ratings for the time slot of Wed-Thurs, with episode 1 netting 8.683%. That’s also tvN’s second highest drama premiere ratings … Continue reading →
