You’re All Surrounded has settled into a nice watchable cadence. Not good and mostly mediocre, but the lighter touch renders the proceedings inoffensively easy to swallow and sometimes even leaves a nice aftertaste. Ultimately it’s a drama only made worth watching for the involvement of Lee Seung Gi and Cha Seung Won, other than them the rest is simply filler … Continue reading →
The June issue of InStyle Korea manages the feat of incorporating four of my favorite things all in one handy spread. Park Shin Hye was in New York City last month to attend the Dramefever Awards and managed to squeeze in a lovely photo shoot for InStyle Korea. I adore NYC and its sidewalks and cityscape so it’s already a treat … Continue reading →
Trusty ol’ K-tabloid Sports Seoul is at it again in the forefront of breaking K-celeb dating news. Or maybe it’s less “breaking” then being part of a well engineered roll out of a couple going public. This one doesn’t include any idols and involves two very well known actors (and also tanks a massively shipped drama couple ship). Gong Hyo Jin and … Continue reading →
A relatively calm and uneventful episode of You’re All Surrounded plops me squarely into investigative territory. This drama is mediocre on all levels now to the point of actually coming across like a series of stepping stones leading to the flashing neon lights of an ending. The journey lacks a meaningful view nor is it daunting enough to pay attention … Continue reading →
Lee Bum Soo is starting to get an additional reputation boost not just as an amazing actor in his own right, but also doing the impossible task of making everyone acting around him better including some pretty hopeless idols. Right after turning Yoona into a legit leading lady, and erasing their age and height difference disparity in Prime Minister and … Continue reading →
Casting has been confirmed and is complete for the next big sageuk movie to start production shortly. It’s not a new story by any means and the movie Sado will instead be yet another dramatic re-telling of the infamous life of Crown Prince Sado of the Joseon era. There have been plenty of K-dramas dealing with the era in and … Continue reading →
After yesterday’s slap upside the head with the casting of Yunho alongside Jung Il Woo in the upcoming supernatural sageuk Records of a Night Watchman, today MBC goes all out and finalizes the leading cast perhaps to keep the shrieks of “noooooo” going until the wailing ceases because everyone is exhausted. Yunho is a done deal so either watch or … Continue reading →
Episode 8 was yet another wildly entertaining episode of Dr. Stranger and might be the first episode without a surgery performed. Instead the entire episode was about the back-and-forth planning for the twin surgeries led by Team Park Hoon and Team Jae Joon and it’s clearly a no-brainer that the earnest non-scheming doctor who will come out on top. There was … Continue reading →
The 50th annual Baeksang Art Awards concluded last night and actually managed to not render me wholly disappointed even with next to zero expectations. I can’t say the entire endeavor rewarded and feted the most deserving movies, dramas, actors, and actresses (since many of the best were not even nominated to begin with), but at least the final prizes went … Continue reading →
It’s hard pressed to find a bigger bucket of cold water to dump over a promising new K-drama than to announce that Yunho has been cast as one of the leads. He may not qualitatively be the worst idol actor out there but his name surely shows up near the top of any list. He’s personally on the top of my … Continue reading →
I’m grateful Dr. Stranger remains true to its larger-than-life story and execution without being apologetic or trying to back track and be more logical so to speak. It’s fun and crazy and that’s what I love about it. Park Hoon continues his ascension as one of the most engrossing leading men in K-dramas this year and all this my ship-your … Continue reading →
Guh, I can’t stand it! How can the main cast of the upcoming KBS Mon-Tues drama Lovers of Music (literal Korean title Trot Lovers) look this cute already in the script reading stills? This one is promising on the very premise that it’s both a rom-com (yay!) and one of those underdog success stories (double yay!) and even better that … Continue reading →
2014 is clearly the year that K-drama ripped a page from the fanservice-y TW-drama handbook and started reuniting famous OTPs to the delight of drama fans around the world. First came My Girl costars Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae doing their darndest to elevate the makjang cray cray of weekend drama Hotel King, next comes Time Between Dog … Continue reading →
