Happy Lunar Year everyone/da jia/yeorobun! It’s goodbye to the year of the snake and hello to the year of the horse. This is going to be a great year, I can feel it. Let’s all start by being optimistic and who knows if that’ll be a self-fulfilling prophesy. Last night was Lunar New Year eve and in China that meant … Continue reading →
The Chinese culture currently has a fixation with successful ladies who remain unmarried past thirty, and this fixation manifests itself in the media being extra obsessed with the love lives of so called Leftover Women and even coined such a name for them. It’s clearly gender bias run amok since the same scrutiny isn’t placed on their male counterparts but … Continue reading →
While folks watching KBS on Mon-Tues may be hand wringing over next week’s ending to Prime Minister and I, I’m taking a break from over-analyzing that drama with a breather to check out the just released second teaser for its follow up drama Full Sun (Beyond the Clouds). Still not feeling the English title one whit. With this drama heading … Continue reading →
January has been a busy news month for Lee Yoo Bi, a relatively newbie actress that I’ve been keeping my eyes on since she made a decent turn in Nice Guy followed by a stunning performance in Gu Family Book. 2014 is starting off with a bang for her and in the last week alone she’s made the headlines in … Continue reading →
I have no clue how Lego Lee is able to princess carry his In A Good Way co-star Kirsten Jen. She’s incredibly thin for her height but she’s one tall girl and about as tall as Lego. Now I need to see more of that man flexing either in the drama or the BTS because his fitness quotient is clearly … Continue reading →
What is this potential awesome and/or hot mess coming up?!? MBC has finally scheduled the follow up drama to its successful sageuk Empress Ki and it will not be Dae Jang Geum 2 (Was anyone holding their breath for this? Ever?) or Unprecedented. Instead it’s a serious melodrama tentatively called Triangle about three brothers separated in childhood who grow up to … Continue reading →
This drama really knows how to pull tension out from all its plot threads in equal measure so that not a single element overwhelms all others. This is the first K-drama I can recollect where the central goal set forth in the beginning remains integral and pivotal as the story progresses. So many dramas use an interesting premise or objective … Continue reading →
I quite loved the ending to episode 15 of Prime Minister and I. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a satisfying pull along scene and I was fairly screaming at Yul to drag his runaway errant wife home. The lack of much conversation was even better because nothing needs to be said between them at this point. … Continue reading →
If ever there was a reason for me to re-watch Heirs the first one to come to mind would be for Kim Woo Bin. I’ve seen him in dramas before and acknowledge that he’s got that innate knack for acting which is all the more surprising since he came from a straight up modeling background. Sometimes models are excellent at … Continue reading →
The recent one-two punch of older man-younger woman K-drama pairings in Lee Bum Soo–Yoona in Prime Minister and I and Lee Seon Kyun–Lee Yeon Hee in Miss Korea is a refreshing change of pace from the popular trend for noona-dongsaeng pairings. I’ve liked plenty of those as well but right now I’m all about the Oppas. I double checked their … Continue reading →
After today’s episode 15 of Prime Minister and I there are only two more episodes left to wrap up the story. Will it end in a moralistic tale of family obligation over personal emotional stakes? Or will the romance that defies conventions in more ways than one be allowed to reach a happy ending? I have full confidence in the … Continue reading →
This one might be a skip from me even though its billed as a rom-com and normally that’s a genre that I’ll always check out. The upcoming Cunning Single Lady is deep into casting after securing leads Lee Min Jung and Joo Sang Wook. She’s a rom-com veteran and her last drama was the blink-and-miss-it low rated political rom-com All … Continue reading →
Are you guys ready for a Korean version of Chiaki and Nodame? Who could do justice to those two fascinating and eccentric characters? Ready or not Korea is preparing for a drama adaptation of the critically acclaimed manga Nodame Cantabile. I’m not a fan of the mangaka’s drawing or storytelling style so it was through the popular J-dorama adaptation that … Continue reading →
