New drama alert coming out of Taiwan! It’s been mostly a long and sorry Summer for me and fluffy Taiwan dramas. Love Around was a repetitive DOA mess, Just You has only cute and nothing else, Amour et Patisserie was gorgeous and lovely but rather faded into the consciousness, and episode 1 of IUUI was brilliant but then collapsed on … Continue reading →
It’s not easy to steal the thunder in a drama. Even the male and female lead isn’t guaranteed to shine and win the audiences rapt attention despite the odds in their favor since they have the most screen time and likely the best written characters. There are plenty of instances of second leads capturing the viewers attention because of the … Continue reading →
I think watching Heirs/The Inheritors and expecting more is going to be mentally exhausting and ultimately unsatisfying. If you like what you’ve seen so far, then chances are this is the extent of it. Episode 2 spanned a day in the life of meet-random couple Cha Eun Sang and Kim Tan, and I’ve actually never watched a Kim Eun Sook … Continue reading →
Well, if you thought to yourself that all you ever wanted to see was Lee Seung Gi and Lee Seo Jin do a very un-PC parody CF of old school kung fu movies with bad dubbing from the 60s and 70s, then your dream has come true and you can check one off the bucket list. I don’t even want … Continue reading →
The October onslaught of Fall K-dramas commenced with the arrival of Heirs and Medical Top Team so there can be no rest for the weary when there are so much new stuff to watch and write about. It’s no secret I’m super stoked about Marry Him If You Dare, which has the Korean title Mirae’s Choice but for this drama … Continue reading →
I quite enjoyed episode one of Heirs/The Inheritors, an over-hyped packaged fluff with plenty of warts and an overflow of pretty young things. Every few years one of these comes along – a high school show that delivers the escapism imagination for teen viewers living in the dreary halls of high school wanting something absurd set in their own world … Continue reading →
If South Korea follows the Hollywood film release timeline, then Fall is the season when the darker fare comes out. Stuff that screams “awards consideration” over “box office candy”. After the early onslaught of Summer releases with corresponding big VIP list movie premieres, I fell off keeping track of movies but this one caught my eye because it stars the … Continue reading →
The first poster for Marry Him If You Dare is out and it’s one where Yoon Eun Hye’s Mi Rae and Jung Yong Hwa’s Se Joo are featured prominently. I can’t wait to see the rest of the posters judging from how much I liked the arrangement and design of this one. I’m especially fond of the English title Marry … Continue reading →
I think Kim Eun Sook is a tiny bit disingenuous to be annoyed with the questions lobbed at her about how Heirs or The Inheritors seems at first blush quite similar to the extremely popular and well-known Hana Yori Dango franchise. Its true that the general premise of a poor kid in an uber-rich kids high school doesn’t belong to anyone and I’ve seen … Continue reading →
You guys want to watch Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon? I normally don’t post full movie links here but this will be an exception because I haven’t had so much fun watching a popcorn period C-movie in ages. Plus the eye candy! This Sherlock Holmes-meets-fantasy-Tang-dynasty blast has four hot and young leading men currently all the rage in many … Continue reading →
I’m already ridiculously excited and primed for Marry Him If You Dare but the just released 3rd teaser trailer has me salivating and rubbing my hands with glee. Chemistry exploding everywhere with all the leads, time-traveling marriage-altering shenanigans from future Mi Rae, and lots of skinship from the get go. Korea’s recent spate of time-traveling dramas last year were a … Continue reading →
If I ever saw Gong Yoo in person, I would probably stare slack-jawed. He’s just such a man’s man with his height and physique, but with a boyish charm when he flashes a brilliant smile that completely undercuts the machismo. It’s been over a year since I’ve seen Gong Yoo onscreen, but it doesn’t feel that long because I still … Continue reading →
You know that existential crisis moment when you’re reading a book and land on a sentence and find yourself reading it over and over again because suddenly words don’t compute? That is usually a signal to put that book down and take a break because the synapses are momentarily overloaded. I worried that moment was barreling towards me with respect … Continue reading →
