Man, the amount of craziness in K-drama land has compounded so much recently I don’t even have the energy to remark on casting or projects with less than ideal leads. Case in point the upcoming tvN drama My Roommate is a Gumiho starring Jang Ki Yong (got the whole package but picks crappy projects) and Hyeri (naturally can’t act but … Continue reading →
Episode 11 of Vincenzo seriously flew by it was so good. I was laughing even more than normal for this drama as this episode was lighter on the fighting Babel action and spent the time wisely moving other threads along. Everyone now knows Vincenzo was in the Italian mafia as a top consigliere, or corn salad to keep along with … Continue reading →
I feel like I’m in a Twilight Zone with what’s happening around Joseon Exorcist. Having not lived through the censorship terrors in various countries through modern world history doesn’t mean I didn’t learn my history and further cherish the freedom of democratized cultures for the seemingly inviolable protections of differences in opinion and creative exploration in the arts. The cast … Continue reading →
I’m so conflicted with tvN Wed-Thurs drama Mouse, much like the male lead Ba Reum played by Lee Seung Gi. I want to love this drama so much with a fantastic cast and slick execution on top of a twisty script. But emotionally it just doesn’t resonate with me the same way the writer’s previous super twisty thriller God’s Gift: … Continue reading →
The Joseon Exorcist brouhaha continues to expand and now it’s roped in a drama that hasn’t even aired yet. K-netizens have set their sights on jTBC period romance drama Snowdrop set 1987 in a university setting. Jung Hae In is a graduate student who stumbles injured into the dorm at a female university and is nursed back to health by … Continue reading →
A new drama casting news to end the week and one I never thought to mentally pair up together. Nam Joo Hyuk and Kim Tae Ri have been offered the leads in tvN romance period drama Twenty Five Twenty One which starts in 1998 during the Asian monetary crisis and spans the years after as the two leads weave their … Continue reading →
Zombies are not just overrunning Joseon Korea via sageuk dramas and movies, it’s also got its bite in modern fare most recently with #Alive and to come with Netflix drama All of Us are Dead. Joining the trend is OCN which has done well with dark thrillers whether investigative or supernatural and the upcoming Dark Hole was billed as a … Continue reading →
This is why K-ent has such a high rate of suicide people, what we’re seeing happen in real time with the angry furor over fictional entertainment products is a big part of why the industry so problematic with the pressure to always be on the side of what the public deems is right. The Joseon Exorcist controversy, itself a whole … Continue reading →
There are too many different elements at play with the controversy around Joseon Exorcist, some understandable and others just nonsense of letting the jingoistic minority perform cancel culture on things that likely happened in history they simply don’t like/accept. After airing only 2 episodes, SBS has announced that it will be cancelling the remainder of the drama after first considering … Continue reading →
I can’t believe it’s already March 2021 and seeing these new pictures I know (1) I’m ready for another Lee Jun Ki drama and (2) I’m even more ready for a drama set on picturesque Jeju (or another outlying island). Better yet, make both happen in the same drama lol. Lee Jun Ki has been chillaxing since his last drama … Continue reading →
Let me preface by saying I really didn’t like this episode of Mouse. Perhaps if I ended up watching the entire drama and somehow this episode fits in beautifully with the subsequent narrative I will change my mind but for now it was just dull and dreary. I don’t find the so-called twists, feints, and fake outs all that clever, … Continue reading →
Cancel culture has come to South Korean dramas not just on the behavior of actors and actresses in real life but on scenes, props, and narratives in the show itself. SBS premiered highly publicized zombie sageuk Joseon Exorcist this Monday and immediately the drama descended into controversy. I haven’t watched the show yet, planning to binge this weekend, but when … Continue reading →
Okay, early impression is I love everything about this drama on paper. The Korean title One Day Destruction Came to My Door now has an equally cheeky English title Doom at Your Service, and the title of destruction/doom Meol Mang is the name of our male lead. Leads Park Bo Young and Seo In Guk have been filming for months … Continue reading →
