Sports themed dramas have traditionally under-performed (har har) in ratings but as a genre I still am glad it’s around to further diversify the landscape between sageuks, melos, thrillers, and rom-coms. MBC has lined up Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo for its late fall Wed-Thurs prime time spot, taking over for the delightful and charming Shopping King Louie. I hope it … Continue reading →
The current roster of It Chinese drama stars were present at this past weekend’s 11th Annual Golden Eagle Awards in Beijing, the event started off with this year’s Golden Eagle Goddess Tang Yan striking the same pose as the statuette in a blinged out golden gown and matching crown. The then switched to a beautiful on her strapless white down … Continue reading →
The sport of bowling is having an insanely good week in South Korea, what with not one but three high profile news items in connection with popular stars. First came news that Kim Soo Hyun threw his name in the ring to apply to become a professional bowler, can’t imagine where he’s finding the time to train and compete but … Continue reading →
There’s no new episode of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (Bobogyungsim: Ryeo) this Monday so the fans will have to content with the sweetest new OTP drama stills released by the production. K-BBJX may be complicated in its own evolved and inherently K-drama take on the source novel of Bu Bu Jing Xin, but in the romance aspect it’s won me … Continue reading →
Filming has already started for the next SBS Wed-Thurs drama the high profile Legend of the Blue Sea, what with fan snapped pictures of leads Lee Min Ho and Jeon Ji Hyun filming overseas in picturesque Spain. The drama premieres in early November which isn’t that far away anymore as the middle of October just passed. Regardless of anyone’s personal … Continue reading →
Resident of Funky Town K-actor Kang Dong Won hasn’t moved his abode out of said satorially odd address just yet, as evidenced by his ensemble while promoting his upcoming aging up movie Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned. It’s nowhere as edgy and off kilter as the various outfits his draped over his lithe leggy model frame earlier this year while … Continue reading →
Classy is the word that best describes the maturing aura of C-actor Hu Ge, gracing the cover and pages of both GQ China and Esquire China in the same period. He played doofy characters in the early days when he first broke into the entertainment industry, period dramas like Chinese Paladin and The Little Fairy were cute but nowhere near … Continue reading →
Midway though it’s run, tvN‘s hit political thriller drama The K2 is still firing on solid cylinders and delivering an entertaining weekly ride. I’m not as personally invested as I hoped to be with the characters and their complications, but the story as a whole has me hooked to watch how the baddies will get their comeuppance and the leads … Continue reading →
Mainland Chinese entertainment shows has evolved greatly from the tendency towards bombastic stage spectacles, but the love of shiny things remains a deeply rooted custom. This weekend is the Golden Eagle Awards, China’s television awards show equivalent of the Golden Bells over in Taiwan, and the flying eagle in recent years has been personified by the selection of one actress … Continue reading →
The development route for upcoming MBC drama Missing 9 is convoluted indeed, starting from it’s many title changes. It went from Gaia (mother earth) to Picnic (wut in tha wut?) to settling finally on Missing 9. Given that it’s a stranded on an island drama I don’t know why they didn’t just start off with Missing 9, sleek and descriptive. … Continue reading →
Dang, so much hats off and kudos to the production design team of tvN‘s upcoming remake of hit US show Entourage. The drama posters are excellently stylish and evocative, blending sleek entertainment world glamour with bromance insouciance. The top one takes my breath away without even showing the faces of the five famous leads beyond side profiles, their suited figures … Continue reading →
So excited, I’m so so excited for year end tvN fantasy drama Goblin even if tempering my expectations is the wiser move. The first teasers are out even though the drama isn’t arriving until December, but these are definitely just teasers as it barely offers a glimpse of Gong Yoo as the titular Goblin of the tale. What it does … Continue reading →
It feels serendipitous that I came across oldie but goodie pictures of Ji Sung just as news broke that he was considering a new drama. I’ll take this as a good sign from above. MBC‘s early 2017 sageuk Rebel Hong Gil Dong (formerly known as Traitor Hong Gil Dong) is courting Ji Sung for the titular role of Hong Gil … Continue reading →
