And here I was thinking that all the splashy star wedding festivities were done for the summer of 2016, who knew the biggest surprise was saved for last. Chinese-speaking entertainment started the weekend off with a huge happy shocker – A-list movie actress Shu Qi is married to her boyfriend of four years HK-star Stephen Fung! The two released wedding … Continue reading →
Is it just me or is MBC Wed-Thurs drama W: Two Worlds gone spectacularly cuckoo in the last few episodes. With three more episodes left until it wraps up, what started off as an exhilarating fresh narrative ride has turned into bizarre nonsense even by fantasy element standards. It’s such a shame as Lee Jong Seok is doing so well in … Continue reading →
This is the best case of K-drama character acting I recollect ever seeing so a huge kudos to Ji Chang Wook for being so darn entertaining. The leads of The K2 jetted off to Spain this week for location shoots prior to the drama’s premiere in mid-September. It’s cutting it close but I have faith in PD Kwak Jung Hwan … Continue reading →
It’s been so long since I watched Kim Rae Won in a drama that wasn’t depressing and/or dark, even the lackluster narrative of Doctors is enough to make me happy just to see him play a happy character who smiles a lot. Punch was an awesome drama but not exactly rainbows and unicorns, and A Thousand Days Promise was so … Continue reading →
A round of congrats is in order for TW-actor Peter Ho as he tied the knot with his non-entertainment industry girlfriend Peggy who he has dated for the last 9 years. It’s not as long running as when James Wen married his long time girlfriend of 17 years but 9 years is still majorly impressive. Peggy is as gorgeous as … Continue reading →
The likely first confirmed casualty of the Chinese government unofficial crackdown on K-ent in terms of drama and star appearances is Yoo In Na. Except I don’t think she’s terribly hard pressed considering where she landed afterwards. Yoo In Na has reportedly been dropped as the female lead in the upcoming Chinese-Korean joint production C-drama Shuttle Love Millennium, the sorta … Continue reading →
The disappointing Korean domestic premiere ratings for the first three episodes of K-adaptation of Bu Bu Jing Xin may take a herculean effort on the production team to reverse. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (Bobogyungsim: Ryeo) is mired in just 7% ratings but there’s good news over the strait in China where the drama has broken 300 million views is … Continue reading →
The fantasy elements and the fantastic cast has assembled like the next generation of superheros to bring home potential ratings gold for famed screenwriter Kim Eun Sook. She was present along with PD Lee Eun Bok, who directed her Descendants of the Sun, for the script reading of their next collaboration drama Goblin. Kim Eun Sook’s stint at KBS was … Continue reading →
The striking and unique beauty of Seo Hyun Jin is on full display for the September issue of Elle Korea, marking her long overdue arrival on the big leagues all thanks to breakout hit drama Another Oh Hae Young. I’m so glad the drama didn’t purposely dowdy her up to hammer home the point that she was the ugly duckling … Continue reading →
Idol actors continue to get a mixed reception with Korean drama audiences, it’s not enough to rest on one good performance but one bad performance seems to tar the opinion for a long time. Yoona of SNSD has been acting for so long she’s more like an actress who is also an idol, doing equal parts of both rather than … Continue reading →
I love Park Shin Hye so her just finished SBS drama Doctors is a net win for me. I stopped watching the drama two weeks ago because I was bored out of my mind with the story but the drama remains popular with viewers and recently broke 20% AGB nationwide and is the second prime time drama to do so in … Continue reading →
The Chinese-speaking entertainment industry wedding bonanza summer of 2016 continues unabated, with the news that TW-actress Tammy Chen is tying the knot with her boyfriend of one year. The wedding is set for the end of September in Chang Mai, Thailand, and the engaged couple also went overseas to take wedding pictures. The couple selected Hokkaido, Japan for the location … Continue reading →
It’s time to render first opinions after giving the K-version of Bu Bu Jing Xin a three episode premiere week to get the ball rolling. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (Bobogyungsim: Ryeo) doesn’t appear to be the potential ratings winner that having such a star-studded cast and huge promotional roll out ought to bring in the viewers, the third episode only … Continue reading →
