I’m basically Charlie Brown and modern romance and business/work/professional C-dramas are Lucy and the football. Chances are it’s going to be lackluster as all have been prior but I still can’t help but check it out when it stars leads I like. In recent years it’s been She and Her Perfect Husband, Best Choice Ever, Only for Love, The Oath … Continue reading →
I think viewers are being either honest or stingy with their votes but the latest Douban ratings to come out for additional late winter/spring 2024 C-dramas are all in the 6 range. Modern romance Best Choice Ever starring Yang Zi and Xu Kai came in with 6.4 and female empowerment period C-drama Blossoms in Adversity with Zhang Jing Yi and … Continue reading →
So modern family, work, and romance C-drama Best Choice Ever has been airing for two weeks and would be considered okay with ratings at best. Leads Yang Zi and Xu Kai are in a group drama that spends more time on family and work stuff so those looking for a romance-centric offering this is not it. I tried but got … Continue reading →
So this week had a new C-drama arrive with Best Choice Ever on Tencent. Starring Yang Zi and Xu Kai, the drama has a sprawling cast and is more about the families and work issues than the OTP romance though there is also that. The first numbers are out and in three days has 7.3 million views. It would be … Continue reading →
So word on the street is that modern C-drama Best Choice Ever (Cheng Huan Ji) is scheduled for broadcast next month in April 2024. It will air on Tencent and the platform is already expecting a hit, due to the buzz already generated. Leads Yang Zi and Xu Kai are well liked and the cast consists of many veterans and … Continue reading →
So this C-novel a few years ago had a female lead lined up in Song Zu Er, but production was slow and in the interim she’s no longer attached. The project adapted from the novel Qi Xing Cai (七星彩 or Colorful Seven Stars) has recently been on the lookout to sign the male lead. In talks are Yang Yang and … Continue reading →
The cast of this C-drama was probably the first production to kick off filming in 2024, as the filming commenced on January 2nd and the cast has been hard at work in Hendian since. The drama is called Moonlit Reunion (Zi Ye Gui or Midnight Return) and is adapted from a novel but not of the same title. Starring Xu … Continue reading →
I feel like the expected success of xianxia C-drama Love Between Devil and Fairy in 2022 made everyone think that xianxia dramas were more than just niche offerings with the occasional success. Otherwise how to explain the expectations for recent xianxia offerings like The Last Immortal and now both Chinese Paladin game adaptations Sword and Fairy 4 based on CP4 … Continue reading →
It was just a production scheduling screw up that Chinese Paladin 4 adaptation Sword and Fairy 4 and Chinese Paladin 6 adaptation Sword and Fairy (just that, no 6 in the title) aired at the exact same time. Okay, one day apart in premiere but who’s quibbling, or perhaps that’s exactly the same difference in it’s reception. Industry pundits are … Continue reading →
So I think this one is coming soon as well and who knows we may have two currently airing Xu Kai dramas at the same time. I don’t mind, love this boy but I could do with spacing his dramas out more so I have more time to enjoy. The modern workplace romance C-drama As Beautiful as You with Tan … Continue reading →
So this drama synopsis may seem wonky off the bat calling leads Xu Kai and Yu Shu Xin of Sword and Fairy, the Chinese Paladin 6 adaptation, as siblings but it’s not cuz they are actually blood related. The story kicks off when both awaken at the same time in some random town with no memories and set off on … Continue reading →
So the Chinese Paladin dramas are based on the same name RPG games so each series is its own story line. The original CP and then CP3 are classics, and there is CP4 with Chen Zhe Yuan and Ju Jing Yi longed completed and yet to air and more recently filmed CP6 called Sword and Fairy with Xu Kai and … Continue reading →
Happy 2024 y’all! Next year will be a quarter century so I hope this year goes slower and I can enjoy it more. One reason time passes fast I feel is that we are always looking forward to something, like a new drama for example. In looking forward we may overlook the present. That said, I still can’t wait for … Continue reading →
