This week Tencent held its own 2023 Tencent Video All Star Awards to celebrate the actors and actresses who did a Tencent project this year. It’s like the network drama years in South Korea so all attendees are there basically known he/she will get an award. And there were a lot of awards with very creative names so recipients could … Continue reading →
So I saw all the hullaballoo around this drama filming at the Shanghai Bund earlier this year, quite a romantic scene atop a double decker bus. The drama is Story of Joy and stars Yang Zi and Xu Kai but really an entire supporting cast of veterans and youngsters playing a whole family dynamic. The drama is centered around the … Continue reading →
It’s weird to use such a bland description as “good” or “decent” to describe something without it sounding like an insult but for C-drama Wonderland of Love within the context of the period C-dramas this is a genuine compliment. I watched this drama starring Xu Kai and Jing Tian for the last 3 weeks without any desire to drop it … Continue reading →
I don’t know if what makes Wonderland of Love work THIS HARD for me is a chicken (the leads and their acting) or the egg (the directing and the script) but goodness is this the most unexpected C-drama to emerge from the recent scrum of premieres to grab me by the gut and heart completely. There is When the Wind … Continue reading →
It’s a good last few days in C-ent as there are now more interesting C-dramas released to check out and fill the late fall void. Tencent premiered Wonderland of Love with Xu Kai and Jing Tian doing their best Romeo and Juliet in war torn Chinese kingdoms impression with likely lots of fighting standing in for flirting. Both are dealing … Continue reading →
While this period C-drama isn’t as buzzy as a few others on the soon-to-air watch list it’s certainly doing its part in keeping interest primed with the promos released so far. Reportedly Tencent will release Wonderland of Love in early November, the 8th to be precise based on the latest insider rumors. It’s a straight wuxia drama starring Jing Tian … Continue reading →
So this is kinda a cute sounding drama and a pretty good casting of the two leads based on the character description. C-ent has Xu Kai and Tian Xi Wei paired up for a fantasy romance demon-hunting period C-drama called Zi Ye Gui (子夜归) which translates as Midnight Hour Return. It’s adapted from a novel called Lady Mei’s Husband Pampering … Continue reading →
One appeal of xianxia dramas is the ethereal and fantasy dreamy visuals complete with gods, goddesses, and sprawling skies, vistas, and dreamscapes. Bazaar China is doing a modern crossed with xianxia-esque visuals with four of the top C-drama leads in this summer’s big batch of released television shows that is so gorgeous. Gong Jun, Tan Jian Ci, Xu Kai, and … Continue reading →
So word on the street is that Sword and Fairy, adapted from hit game Chinese Paladin 6, will be premiering soon. Maybe as early as this month in September, continuing the recent trend of airing a drama after getting a permit to avoid any unexpected snafus. The drama stars Yu Shu Xin (Esther Yu) and Xu Kai in what feels … Continue reading →
So Yang Zi hasn’t just been promoting her recently aired drama Lost You Forever Part 1, she’s also currently filming modern C-drama Story of Joy on top of recently finished filming other modern C-drama Stories of Youth and Love. Depending on timing we may see one or both of these modern dramas before Lost You Forever Part 2 airs and … Continue reading →
Today on August 22nd is also lunar date July 7th which means Chinese Valentine’s Day, which remains a celebrated date but so does Western Valentine’s Day on February 14th so it’s like getting two V-days heh. Many of the upcoming C-dramas released cute couple featured dramas or BTS pics to promote their drama on this day and most are just … Continue reading →
I sorta dig when a C-drama early promos show one story and then a substantive trailer hits and it’s a totally different beast. C-drama Wonderland of Love with Xu Kai and Jing Tian doesn’t have an airing date yet but Tencent did a promo over the weekend and dropped a new poster (above) and first official trailer and it’s so … Continue reading →
For some reason I thought C-stars Tan Song Yun and Xu Kai have done a drama together before now but alas it was just the usual casting carousel jumble so this upcoming drama will be their first together. It’s called As Beautiful As You (Chinese title You Are More Beautiful than the Starlight) and it’s an start-up company tech industry … Continue reading →
