Moving Takes Home Drama Daesang, The Worst of Evil Wins Best Director, Namgoong Min Gets Long Awaited Best Actor, and Honey Lee Upsets for Best Actress in Fun Night at the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards
The 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards took place this Tuesday May 7th in Seoul and it was also the 60th year of the event so a milestone for sure. There is a lot to digest so let’s get to it! Moving took home the drama side Daesang and I knew that would happen when Best Drama went to My Dearest so congrats to both! Moving is my favorite drama of 2023 and the complete package in acting, writing, and directing. A surprise in Best Director for The Worst of Evil or perhaps it was an attempt to distribute more love. Namgoong Min deservingly got Best Actor for My Dearest as recompense for losing out three times prior and really for the travesty the year that was Hot Stove League. A surprise in Best Actress going to Honey Lee for Knight Flower but perhaps that was expected considering all the praise she got for making that drama a hit.
A duo from Mask Girl swept with Best Supporting Awards in Ahn Jae Hong and Yeom Hye Ran, adorable tween Jeon Yu Na won Best New Actress for The Kidnapping Day, and sweet Lee Jung Ha got Best New Actor for Moving. Kim Soo Hyun won the Popularity Award and got a lot of screentime in the front row lol. In the movie side, a few big wins was Kim Go Eun for Best Actress in Exhuma and Lee Do Hyun for Best New Actor as well, and the Daesang going to the director of Exhuma with 12:12 The Day winning Best Picture and Best Actor for Hwang Jung Min. In terms of fashion, it was as boring as prior years and a few standouts were An Yu Jin in her sleek white dress and Lee Jong Won doing his best Prince impression. My fave part was seeing all three of my baby boys grown up at the same awards in Kim Soo Hyun, Park Bo Gum, and Lee Do Hyun, all three were small supporting roles that caught my eye when each debuted and lo and behold all three hit or exceeded their potential.
The red carpet was boring and aside for a few actors , the photos aren’t flattering at all ! I know that it ‘s not the Met gala but it may exist something between extravagance an the black and white concept ! Don’t they know that we aren’t anymore in the 50’s and that the technology gave us colorized version !
Every Korean awards red carpet is like this.
At this point we should all just accept it will always be like this. At least Im Ji-yeon and Suzy had some colour.
That is 2 more than what we have seen in previous years.
I read that K-Netizens criticized Suzy’s pink dress color, but praised her stage dress which ended up being black. At this point I would say that the Korean national dress code for red carpets is either Funeral or Bridal. Perhaps they do this to distinguish themselves from the Chinese red carpets. Which, personally, I think is a shame as the C-red carpet fashion looks always rock with glamour and adventure. My opinion, of course.
Congrats to all the winners!! Particularly KGE for best actress was well deserved since I felt like she should’ve won the popularity award too. Yujin left early and didn’t even stay for her actual nomination… Also nice to see LDH there despite his enlistment although now I wish HB could’ve done the same when he won for Secret Garden.
I hated the social distancing type chair set up for the attendees. So weird in 2024, and just in general the venue looked so dark and small. Even the red carpet felt very boring since they weren’t coming out of a limo and instead from back stage. But it was such an emotional event with Lee SungJae’s performance, the song commemorating the history of Baeksang etc.
Maybe there was a pre-set condition of being a KSH fan in order to buy an event ticket. He continuously kept getting ear splitting screams for each 0.5sec clip they showed of him on the big screen lol.
😂 Baeksang really tried to milk the KSH craze. Had him blown up every 5-10 min in that 3 long hours. It was playing as background for me yet you knew each time he was being shown without fail. The roar of fangirls were Sol x 4589845
Honestly 2024 feels a lot like time travelling back to 2014. The level of fangirling for a 36yo technically veteran actor is so hilarious. And it helps that he looks like he’s still stuck in 2014 too.
His fan base is crazy. He net a lot of new ones from the queen of tear whether it’s his solo fans or shipper fans
@all – the mass crowd waiting for him in addition to the ones watching live was so psychotic. Legit Baeksang was forced to send a push notification via the Prizm app so they can tell the public KSH was in fact NOT at the venue still 40 minutes before the event started hahahhahaha, so comical
I think he wasnt planning to be at the red carpet at all but the organizers mustve asked him to show up because of the hysteria he was the last of the nominees to walk it and as soon as he was done, the 3 MCs walked and the red carpet was curtained. I am feeling an equal mix of ridiculousness and amazement at the popularity of KSH currently because this is not normal for someone who has been in the entertainment industry for almost 20 years and has already experienced this level of fame before, its not just some bursting in the scene newbie.
Omg ye ye. The topic on KSH popularity is so hot now and kfans were saying it has the feel of a rookie bursting into the scene despite him being TOP of the top forever ago.
So many Byun Wooseok kfans always compare him to KSH which is super funny and inappropriate. its such an unusual situation really and someone already said but feels like timelooping 10 years ago when he exploded
I did not save the main topic on this, but in case someone is interested, here is the link to a couple of mini instiz post few hours ago on same topic. it comes up a lot these days

I think KSH is just one of those once-in-a-generation type of stars that have a wide mass appeal and have the general public in a chokehold forever lol. Not sure if we’ll see this type of star again in the future. Doesn’t help that we don’t have a monoculture anymore
@mel, it’s annoying to see how fans always compare different stars and pit them against one another and that’s how arguments and uproars explode among fans. Lovely runner is a hit lately and the guy is having his first fan meet. I enjoy the drama too but I don’t think it’s appropriate to compare since he and KSH are unique in their own ways. No one is forever on the top. As they age; some fans may also mature and will not rave about their idols as much as they were In their 20s and 30s.
@Cammy haha it’s not that serious really. BWS has teen fans and since the current KSH syndrome feels very rookie-like they feel they need to compete. But thats just a feeling and the real case is KSH has been in the same top spot for 12yrs so the comparison is funny and inappropriate. Most kfans just roll their eyes and carry on.
Its not accurate that actors cannot remain on top forever. LBH, LJJ, HJM, CMS, KHA, KHS were at the top forever ago and still now. It is all about being able to pick the right projects, get critical acclaim and stay trustworthy and likeable to all age groups which KSH continues to do by being a household name in Korea. He needs to eventually take on more movies but for now he is in an ideal top of top place in his career
No major controversies on the winners list, but then there were no questions on the nominees list either. The nomination was already so hard earned and precious so anyone winning from the list was completely valid.
LDH giving a shout out to LJY was sweet. There were some fangirls complaining about that which was so funny since they conveniently forgot these actors are publicly dating. Idc for fashion stuff, but there were some good speeches! I particularly loved HJM & KGE. These awards meant a lot to them clearly. I wish HJM got Daesang because his acting was spellbinding. I would have given the Best Actor to any of the other nominees. His tears were so sincere it made me tear up too. KSH’s speech was also quite lovely despite being short. He looked so confident and happy. I have seen so many of his past speeches and he always ends up stuttering, tearing up or just being plain nervous. So nice to see him assured with that beautiful smile on stage. He seems so sweet and has such a likeable personality.
Totally agree with you on KSH. I’ve been a fan since DH and this is the most comfortable I have ever seen him in an awards show despite not having anyone from the QOT team with him. I think he had a minor case of imposter syndrome in his 20’s based on how much he mentioned fearing the love and accolades he got. But now he looks so confident in his skin and seems to know he belongs at the top. Its so reassuring to see that.
@ potato & butterfly
Glad I am not the only one. Seeing Kim SooHyun so relaxed made me so happy. I am an introvert with anxiety so I understand the internal struggle of trying to stave off awkwardness and pretend you’re fine while mentally wanting to dig a hole and die lol. This time it was heartwarming to watch him be truly fine on the biggest stage. We don’t know him outside of what he willingly shows the public obv but solely based on that, he invokes a certain protectiveness in me. When I saw how bright his eyes and smile was holding the trophy, I was genuinely happy.
Congratulations to all the winners!!
The fashion was boring af (shocker!) but at least they are all gorgeous to look at. I am *convinced* Kim Soo Hyun is actually Do Min Joon’s current persona LOLOLOL How on earth does he look *younger* than his YFAS days? On the other hand, what was Kim Go Eun’s sytlist thinking? This is not it. Everyone needs to learn how to dress from Suzy. What a way to carry a bold color.
SO HAPPYYY for Lee Honey!
No one gave her an iota of a chance when she was nominated in both Film and TV. Amazing year for her and I could not be more happier.
My Dearest winning best drama over GMBM, Daily doze of sunshine and Revenant is frankly a wtf call. That drama went spiralling down the drain in the second half held together by just the acting. WTF choice.
Yes… Lee Honey really deserved that award… some are just mad because their faves lost 🤦♂️
Most shocking moment for me was finding out Krystal – KRYSTAL – was nominated for an acting award at the Baeksang. I must have been on comma for the past several years because I last remember her in My Lovely Girl and the less said about that the better. Suzy, Krystal and Yoona all now have a Baeksang nomination. 2nd gen idol actresses WOWWW.
yay to all the winners and nay to monochrome fashion but please let me just talk about KSH being caught deer on headlights literally returning from the washroom of all places and being asked to do hyun woo ~ I am born cute ~ scene live on national tv
🤣
Why does he always get caught in situations like this,,, omg it was completely hysterical. This poor childd
I died laughing when I saw the vid of it. He was so bamboozled first with his name being called out of nowhere and then the request he couldn’t quite figure out. They didn’t even give him a mic lmfao. A+++ content
Best moment of Baeksang 2024 😹
He has the perfect personality for variety. He can be so naive and willing to do anything he is asked so easy to exploit really. I hope Na PD goes ahead with his wishes and calls him heheh
This may become an internet meme for awhile lol
Kim Soo Hyun is such a ✨ mood ✨
Things that happen to him are never intentional but always hilarious. He is the most awkward A-lister, no, S-tier star I’ve ever seen in my life. Never change please!
KSH can always be relied on to be caught in the most funniest circumstances at these functions. The same host once asked him to impromptu yodel out of thin air lol. The way he transformed his face to Baek Hyun-woo was pitch perfect. Is it okay to call an 88’er adorable? -.-
Happy for NGM as I think he is an amazing actor. I’d be lying if I say I’m not disappointed that KSH didn’t win, but everyone nominated deserved to win too so it doesn’t feel unfair either. Just sad that KSH’s incredible performance won’t have a Baeksang, but then again, a Baeksang nomination call from judging just his 6 episodes aired is pretty darn amazing in itself. His bone chilling performances came in the latter half of the drama that may not have even been aired before the decision was made, so to be nominated so early on is such a flex and I’m so proud of him for it.
Now that QOT is officially wrapped up, onwards to Knock Off! Hope it comes out by February so we get to see him again in next Baeksang! And yup, I am literally that confident he’ll be in the list – again.
P.s. Lee Honey is so gorgeous even with that simple flat ironed hair. She is such a star and I’m ecstatic for her!
Same thoughts on KSH but its ok. He is Baeksang favourite after all. He already has one and it is never a challenge for him to get nominated. He was last minute addition this year too hehe. He has loads more opportunities in the future!
I think Knock off will be released next summer. Filming starts July and with post production, maybe Feb is too early. Depends on the platform too really
I also read somewhere there isn’t a lot of stars who will win a second time. Not sure how true it is. I didn’t verify details but Ksh has won before
@Macy I think Baeksang tries to give everyone a win but its not that someone cannot win twice. OJS won back to back, LSM has a couple and LBH has uncountable haha. This time the timing of the decision was unfortunate. But KSH will win again in the future for sure
@Macy
Multiple wins happen a lot in the Film division because there are a few actors and actresses who star in commercial films. Not so much when it comes to the Drama division because there are so many actors and actresses eligible every year. Kim Namjoo, Kim Heeae, Lee Byunghun & Lee Sungmin are the only double winners for Drama in the past 15 years.
Initially I was pretty upset that KSH didnt win. I went through instiz to find others to be upset together with haha. But actually, so many fans just said whats the big deal it’s ok, he can just win it next year hahaha. He gets nominated almost every time he acts so it’s not like this is some rare opportunity which is so right. So I got over the upset mostly haha.
I really loved NGM in Lovers. He is deserving too. But Lovers as a drama did not… Devil or Bad Mother were better options. There are so many comments on how bad that decision was. LHN was so surprising too, but very deserving. No one expected but I am so happy for her!!
I wonder if only the first 8 episodes were considered since the eligibility cut off date was March 31. It would be a pity if that’s the case because the three scenes in Episode 14 were so impactful. I can’t even listen to Choi Yu Ree’s Promise without getting teary eyed because images of his breakdown scene immediately plays in my head.
I think the winners were picked the week between ep 12 and 14. So his scene as Eunseong was counted maybe but not everything after. I could not find concrete info, but other knetz mentioned these dates. It’s sad because ep 14 was top tier acting from him. Tears timing was too bad throughout. PDs could have been nominated too and also KDY-PSH for supporting actors. But its ok. He can just do it again next time seriously
If true, that’s very unfortunate the winner was already chosen before Episode 14 aired. Thank goodness ratings were good, the whole year of filming paid off for everyone involved.
Cut-off is for purposes of eligibility. To know which dramas will be included among the pool of potential nominees. The nominations and especially the votes for the winners are for episodes aired and unaired at the cut-off. The judges have two weeks from ep 14 to the day prior to Baeksang night to vote.
There was an article published a few days ago, only the first 8 episodes of QoT were reviewed.
@Mel, is there anyway to DM you?
Hi I dont think there is an option for dm in this website… but if you really want to ask something you cant here, maybe you can let me know your sns and I’ll message?
Thank you @Mel. Could you please DM me on Twitter (X) @timepassacc812
Yes… Lee Hanee is so deserving. I also did not expect her to win. I thought Ra Miran or Uhm Junghwa would take it but after she was announced as the winner… I realized… Baeksang does not care about what public says and I tried to think and I came to understand why Lee Hanee won. She basically carried the entire show by herself and made it a big hit. She owned the genre and she is the only actress in that category who performed comedy, emotional scenes and action in one drama! So… yeah… she is more than deserving of that award!
I feel meh on honey Lee’s win, ahn eunjin was much better oh well. I’m just glad that worst of evil got one win, atleast the director gave a shout out to jcw even if he wasn’t nominated.
I agree with what someone said in the last post I’m tired of this ksh and kjw association, like the one they showed kjw and her past male costars but showed ksh twice when they could’ve included jcw. Or the panning to ksh’s face when they showed kjw and sukku, they know what they’re doing. It must be annoying for the actors too.
They didn’t include JCW because he has never been nominated for Baeksang best actor before. Maybe they could’ve used a pic of Song Joong Ki instead of two KSH. But what was the purpose of that anyway?
He’s been nominated for a film one. SJK would also make sense to include. It’s intentional, they be looking like a shipper…
That was a new actor nomination not best actor like the other three.
Even the media are jumping on the ship (for the sake of getting readers attention) when their fan meetings were announced, the headline say husband’s fan meet is in Japan and wife’s fan meet is in Korea.
I saw that article headline too awhile back lol. And how coincidental they also have their fan meetings on the exact day. Maybe Korean showbiz is so boring these days and there hasn’t been a drama with such high ratings for awhile so they need to keep something catchy to keep the public attention for while and to draw eyeballs.
Who was the last onscreen couple constantly being associated in public when they haven’t confirmed dating ?
I enjoyed shipping Ksh and kjw during the whole drama but the drama is over and since I haven’t seen any news of the two caught in public aside from filming, I have decided to stop shipping them. I hope the media will stop teasing us former shippers with these kinds of snippets like randomly focusing on ksh’s reaction when he sees Kim ji won with other co-stars lol.
The media at least didn’t focus song joong ki’s reaction when shk delivered the awards
Yeah, I’m agree with that. The way Baeksang tried to milk they ship was so obvious, KSH’s smile dropped the moment he saw his face oncreen next to MLN thumbnail. He knew that they’re doing. It ruined my mood actually, and many KJW fans were pissed off how they used KJW despite not nominated her.
And, of course, their shippers reacted just “Omg, he stopped smiling because he saw her with another man!!!😍😍😍” Just how stupid can they be.
If the award ceremony took place two weeks ago and they did this, I will be like the delusional shipper and wow. But now that the show is over, I’m annoyed to see how the media is trying to use them to tease fans. They’re not dating and the media ought to stop making them look like they are a real life couple
What’s also annoying is their agencies are helping the media to create these illusions of the two as a real life couple for the sake of money or their benefits. Kjw posted a bride pic a few days ago when the special aired and it happened to be in the same time frame Ksh posted or vice versa. I didn’t check the time stamp but one article said it’s within 5 min or less. That’s a plan move by their agencies. It can’t be that coincident. Probably deep down Ksh and kjw are tired of it but they can’t say no consider the drama achieved massive ratings and they benefit too. Their association won’t end that soon. I bet Ksh will be asked about kjw in his Asia fan tour
I guess I wasn’t only one who saw that clip about sukku and kjw. But why was kjw even mentioned or showed up on the big screen when she wasn’t nominated ?
To show Ksh face at that moment for clickbait posts, of course. The way his smile dropped showed that he knew what they were doing.
After that my respect to Baeksang became less
I would also feel the same if Ahn Eunjin won… cause Uhm Junghwa and Ra Miran did better… even Lee Hanee did better than Ahn Eunjin. Lee Hanee was recognized and given the award for her incredible performance in Knight Flower. She performed comedy, action and emotional scenes perfectly.
Soohyun is a gorgeous specimen of a man with the out of shower gelled hair look. sorta looking like it is longer than usual so i guess he is growing it out for his new drama. i wonder if he will sport long hair similar to samdong and make it more straight. really curious about his new drama look and character. does anyone know?
We dont have details on the character but it is set in the IMF era late 90s to early 2000s. There are rumours his character is either a scammer or a police offer or maybe both. I expect he will officially confirm soon since they start filming in July. Hope we get some more details like legnth, broadcasting and release expected date
Exact my expectation for Daesang, best actor, and best actress. Well deserved.
suzy’s pink dress was what red carpet dreams are made of. soompi posted her photo last and i almost gave up on seeing anything but black or white. she saved the night fashion with that dress. and ksh’s coordi deserves some credit for making him look like a billion bucks all the effin time. hope hyesam reunites in a full fledged drama one day. gyj’s black dress was pretty but i wish she smiled more?? she always looks like she is trying not to roll her eyes…
good bad mother should have gotten at least 1 award. best drama or best actress or anything since it was such a good drama to go home empty handed. and petty but i wish ldh sat with rmr for a bit too. i did not watch the whole thing but from all the tweets, looks like he was sitting with only exhauma team.
I’m so happy for the wins of My dearest and Moving as it is my fav dramas of 2023. I also know that Queen of tears did not win because if Kim Soo Hyun isn’t the lead, it wouldn’t have had a high ratings, the storyline is so cliche, I struggled to finish it so I think Kim soo hyun only deserves the popularity award although he’s also very good in acting and having the best chemistry with Kim Jiwon but the plot is just meh, with those car accidents, amnesia stuffs. I would love it if the drama finished with Hae in dying it would’ve been realistic.
Gosh, many people criticised 2nd part of My dearest as well. How many top popular cable drama do you saw with plot “just meh”? Car accident was only in the last episode, amnesia was predictable, since Hong Haein started loose her memory from episode 2. The way people trying make Qot worse and said that it was popular thanks only to Ksh is starting to pissed me off.
Just check other top 20 popular cable dramas, and you understand that none of them there just because of main leads or their chemistry.
@Meralyn, agreed! Even without car accidents and amnesia stale tropes etc, the first few eps of QoT are also reek of old concepts that don’t sit well with me. KSH deserves popularity award for his contribution to boost up viewership. But the drama itself is so mehhhhhhh.
@Meralyn…yeah the drama didn’t worked for me either. I started watching cause of how much ppl are in love with it so I wanted to join in the hype too! But alas, I found both script and directing to be lacking. It’s a pretty look at, frothy eye candy sort of drama which is hey, I love me some of those too but seeing the devoted love ppl have for it, I was expecting more 😅 but am glad the drama’s fans have had such an awesome time the last few weeks! Few things compares to an addictive drama!
Had a blessed time scrolling without any real food for delulu QOT shippers during Baeksangs. Hallelujah! Before Baeksang, I did not picture KSH-KGE together but since they were used by the videographer in ever frame I believe they would hv epic chemistry. Manifesting a melo drama with them soon with Noh Hee Kyung or Kim Eun Sook. It would be an acting party
Maybe the shippers at that time will be more wild. lol.
Oh hi there, Doe! I’ve seen you’ve changed your username!
I knew it was Doe too lol. Literally same ‘ol tactic of pretending to root for an actress and say “this actress will look good with KSH!” just to undermine the KSH-KJW pairing. She probably thought nobody would notice just because she changed username lmfao. Too bad she’s way too obvious 😂
Layan = TF are you on about? I could nt dislike the girl you accuse me of liking even if I tried. Girlfriend is the reason I almost dropped such a good drama despite masterful performances from OJS & KSH. KSH’s agency dropped her like a hot potato once her scandal came out so what is there to even clutch on and ship? Never mind answering that because i give no fs to the answer. But just for your information, actor and actress fans loathe delulu shippers too and KJW’s true fans will concur to that. If you dont think delulu shippers spamming, ordering and abusing actors/actresses to date another person is a bad thing, you are no doubt a delulu shipper yourself.
Oh come on guys, I am the first to call Doe on their bullshit several posts back, but simultaneously would LOVE KSH and KGE to work together and think they would have such intense romantic chemistry. Loved KSH-KJW as a pairing but QOT is now done and KSH fans can and will want him to work with other actresses. That does not = dont like KJW. It = the drama is completed and it is time to move on.
@PineTree
100%. After Knock off wraps up, I want to see him pairing up with Kim Tae Ri, Kim Go Eun or Han Hyo Joo. I like the idea of NHK as a writer! KES would also be interesting too since he has never worked with her in any capacity. I dont care as much about the writer since KSH has a great eye for scripts and knows what to take on. I just badly want it to be a Sageuk.
@ Butterfly Since Dream High, I have been a fan of Kim Soo-hyun, and I adore how humble and unassuming he is despite being a huge Korean celebrity. I still recall the occasion where he continued to eat the pizza (it was still inside the box) that had fallen to the ground at his fan meetup in the Philippines.
Like you, I would want to see him alongside Han hyo-joo, Kim Tae-ri, and Park Eun-bin. I hope that he can collaborate with Jun Ji-hyun once more.
My exact thought. Those two would be amazing together in a serious romantic drama. They just need a tried and true screenwriter with the right PD. Loved her in both Cheese In The Trap and the two seasons of Yumi’s Cells. They would be great in something like the Something In The Rain and One Spring Night dramas minus the poor repetitive music choices and the horrid mother in laws and exes.
Evidence of Kim Soo-hyun current stardom. Turning a baeksang winners post which is historical ground of fan wars into essentially a Kim Soo-hyun appreciation post in the comments section 😅
Atleast he’s getting love here, kdrama stans seem to hate him on twitter for some reason, a ksh fan posted that he shouldve won, most quotes seem to be attacking ksh. But I noticed over there they tend to hate A listers like ksh, psj, skjk and Stan their nugu actors.
It’s Twitter tho!? Where you can literally just block someone who annoys you unlike here. KSH fans are everywhere on twitter. It is where they got together to organize the strategic voting that got him almost half the Baeksang popularity votes received cumulative for *all* actors and actresses this year.
Kdrama fans don’t hate KSH on twitter loll. His fans just try not to involve themselves with idiots basically. I am a QOT fan instead of a KSH fan alone but one thing I love about his fans as is evident even here, they don’t shit on other actors just because their guy lost. They aren’t insecure at all and know his worth. Like many comments here said, he can just win another year. As long as he works, he has a spot in the 5.
@Bloo
Exactly! His longtime OG fans I’ve encountered on Twitter were really chill about him not winning and some were even congratulating NGM. But it’s the newbie fans he got from QOT/the shippers who were throwing tantrums about him not winning which invited his haters to hate on him. And what annoys me most about those people is that they mostly only wanted him to win so that he’d mention KJW in his speech to satisfy their delulu. They’re so single-minded in their shipping obsession that they post things not even caring how it could make KSH or KJW look bad and attract hate to them. Smh.
summer:
Right on! Shippers are upset cz they know the next time KSH wins a Baeksang, he is not going to mention KJW. KSH’s real fans dont care who he mentions and are just happy he won. Neither are they concerned of his prospects to win again so there is no true bitterness. The comments here are a microcosm of twitter where you know who the real fans are and who the shippers are and who the trolls are.
@bloo, as a former qot shipper fan, I actually don’t think Ksh will mention kjw even if he wins best actor. If they’re just friends, mentioning her will give shippers false hopes. If they’re dating in real life, mentioning her will put them into more tabloids and unnecessary attention.
@Cammy please cut it off right there. KSH will *not* disregard his costar in some vague hope that shippers would stop. That is not his style and I am not even a fan in the strictest sense to know that about him. This is the same guy who openly said “Chun SongYi-ssi, saranghamida” at an award speech while JJH watched in the audience. He will mention the writer, PD and his costars because that’s the right thing to do and because he is genuinely thankful to them.
There will be lots of other award shows this year and he will undoubtedly sweep most if not all of them. I have read all your other comments and since you claim to be a “former” shipper, I’m just saying in advance. Mentioning his costar doesn’t mean he is encouraging shipping or whatever. So please don’t go about blaming him for giving you “hope”. That’s not his problem if you are creating delusional desperate stories in your mind. I am first a QOT fan and I know he would be expressing his gratefulness to the people he worked with for a whole year to create tvN’s most successful drama ever. Will that be taken out of context, twisted and interpreted in 1000 different ways? Of course it will since shippers always finds a way and be absolute nuisances. Does not mean he is bringing unnecessary attention.
Plastic suzy fans used to troll self made actresses like Kim go eun. Who has now biggest hit movie of year and best actress award for it. Woozie is flop movie actress and her dramas has done nthng since yrs. Her CFS has dropped too.
Ah sh*t, here we go again. Not gonna lie tho, I missed reading your catfights with Marie (the biggest Suzy fan) in the comment section of this blog in the past 😂
Happy with all the winners. Had a feeling Moving would win the Daesang. And just love that Honey Lee won Best Actress and Nam Goong Min won Best Actor in the TV categories. Honestly hoping Honey Lee winning this award makes her a shoe in for the Daesang at the MBC Drama Awards later this year. I think she’s the only one of the potential nominees who hasn’t won it yet. So far Knight Flower still has the highest ratings this year and it’s a drama I would love to see get another season. I honestly don’t think there was a take the nation by storm performance in the acting category, so I didn’t see any actor winning the Daesang this year. I remember reading Disney was pretty much done with Korean Drama production, and then Moving happened. It’s a well deserved win. Viewers are already begging for a second season.
Actually, in 2022, many Knets supported and predicted Lee Hanee to be the winner of Best Actress after her crazy performance in One the Woman, but she wasn’t even nominated and the award went to Kim Taeri of 2521. Now, Baeksang finally recognized her talent. I do not know if Lee Hanee will win Daesang because there will be quite a competition. Kim Namjoo, Lee Jehoon, Kim Heesun and Han Sukkyu 😄
It should really be interesting, the year isn’t over yet. I watched the first episode of Wonderful World, and Kim Nam Joo was strong. Multiple times the honor has gone to the actor or actress that delivered the biggest hit for the network. Sometimes the performance that just can’t be denied winds up winning despite the drama the performance is from not having the highest ratings. Lee Jong Suk won the Daesang in 2022. I don’t know if it was because Big Mouth was the biggest hit that year, if it was because he delivered the strongest performance that year, or both. I know Kim Nam Joo has multiple Daesangs, so I’m really rooting for Honey Lee. Hoping her winning also leads to a second season of Knight Flower because the series really has a lot of potential to explore her character further.
@Mia, well said. I also love to see the 2nd season of Knight Flower. At least the romance looked like un unfinished business to me. LOL.
Moving is one K drama that opened my eyes. Before then, I expected all Kdrama to be old school and predictable in terms of production quality. Moving is at least on par with may mesmerizing western produced fancy films. I believe if Moving had been released by Netflix, it would make Kdrama even more popular worldwide. Moving is truly a breakthrough in Kdrama production and deserves Daesang. Acting wise, there’re no actors this year who have made equal impact on the K-ent. Anyone including fangirls’ heartthrob winning Daesang would be unjustified compared with Moving. LOL.
ITA regarding the romance. They definitely left the door open to have the series continue (maybe on purpose), and I would love to see it. It was a drama that had people wanting more. If it was 16 episodes, I think the drama would’ve received over 20 percent ratings. Considering MBC hasn’t had that happen for quite some time now, I could definitely see the network approaching the prodution for another season.
Moving truly lived up to it’s title IMO, and truly broke new ground for Korean dramas. If only it was on Netflix was probably echoed around the world. I think the one thing Netflix got right when it comes to KDramas is understanding the original global audience. They broke away from their formula of uploading an entire season at once and uploaded on air KDramas the same day they aired in Korea. That allowed viewers to still be a part of the online conversation and also avoid spoilers. Disney+ didn’t replicate that and probably lost a lot of potential viewers because of it. It was probably a good year plus before I found out all the dramas that never showed up on Disney+ were actually going to HULU. Outside of Netflix, you barely see any promotion for these dramas. I was honestly happy for all the dramas that got buzz this year, but I’m sure they would’ve had even more buzz if they were on Netflix.
@mia, i still feel like Disney + isn’t doing a good job in promoting their kdramas like the way Netflix does. Sometimes I don’t even know what they are airing. Besides Moving, is there any good Disney + k dramas they produced that is interesting?
@Cammy
Disney+ promotes their kdramas in a very traditional way in and outside of Korea. Posters, billboards, bus ads. Even their interviews are the usual cast interviews not the kind Netflix does with games and other gimmicks. Even their social media content are not the fan service-y kind that Netflix does. Too bad because I find their originals much better than Netflix’s save maybe for a couple of kdrama last year.
I wished The Matchmakers won for Art direction. I don’t understand why a documentary won. They should really make more categories. The writer deserved to be nominated, it was one of the best written kdrama even if it was very discreet.
Man, the fashion was so dull! I was scrolling down to see if anything looks good and they were mainly in black and white which washed out their features and gives off really pale skin. There were 2 pop of colors and even then I didn’t like the makeup on the artists. But, congrats to the winners!
Had popcorn ready to go with 50+ comments. (Un)fortunately 90% is plain ole’ KSH lovin’. Sort of endearing how liked he is both as an actor and person. Nice to see how chill his fans are over him not winning too. Certain actors’ fans would have thrown the tantrum of the year after their previous tantrum of the year in the nom article… which… in hindsight feels even stupider after KSH became amongst the front runners from the media and critics perspective.
Anywhoo honestly Im Siwan was a bit robbed because his character was the hardest to play amongst the 5. The way he was able to portray innocence and duality was outstanding. Baeksang snubbed Boyhood without giving them anything… Usually this awards does not include attendance as a criteria for winning but I wonder if Im Siwan did not attend because he knew he wasnt going to win. He was not pointed as favourite by the media.
I also want to add how happy I am Mask Girl swept the supporting category. Yeom Hye Ran and Ahn Jae Hong delivered two of the strongest performances in a drama I’ve seen this past year.
+1. Those 2 were locks for the win.
Ahn Jaehong was so extraordinarily good in Mask Girl that it is unsettling. Like, how does he know how to play a p3rv so well? Every time I look at him now I get the heebeejeebies.
After NGM won the best actor, I started to watch Hot Stove League per several fans’ recommendation. It is really an interesting underdog drama and I like underdog story. Besides, I’m not unfamiliar with baseball given that Taiwan is also one of the baseball nations. NGM’s acting in HSL is about right, not under- nor over-. I’m so happy he won the award that he totally deserves and it’s been long overdue. Congrats to him and his fans!
I think I’m gonna on a spree checking out and watching his dramas. LOL.
@Somebody: Yay! So glad you are watching and enjoying Hot Stove League.
It’s one of the rare high rated Korean dramas I think deserves the hype and accolades. It was a deserved sleeper hit: started at around 3% and ended at 19%. And I love NSM’s decision to go for understated acting in this. It’s rare a lead character is played in a “quiet” way but it’s more effective than if he had overacted the character IMO because the scenes where he does show intense emotions resonate even more. Also all the supporting cast are superb and it’s fun to see how many of them went on to become very successful.
I binged 6 eps already within 2 days. If not so tied up with work recently, I might have watched all eps already. I’m so curious about how Dream team would end up after supposedly winning championship. LOL
@Somebody: LOL I remember the feeling when watching it for the first time.
It’s amazing how invested you become in the team. Even for somebody like me who has never watched a baseball game in my life!
@Somebody Have you watched The Good Manager/Chief Kim already? NGM was hilarious in that without being over the top! He and Junho were excellent and I loved their chemistry in that drama. Plus the drama was just sooo good, it was an absolute riot and I loved the elements of black comedy. I also loved that it’s not the typical male lead ends up with female lead drama lol
@Cindy, not yet. oops my 2PM bias Junho was also in the Good Manager? Surely will check it out after finishing Hot Stove League. I’m now hooked to HSL. The story is just getting more and more exciting after the first few eps. I’m totally in love with NGM’s no-nonsense stoic personality in HSL. LOL.
I see they gave “Moving” the Daesang! I was surprised by the lack of individual nominations given the success of the drama and nominations it has garnered at other awards but they decided to award the project as a whole by giving it the Daesang.
The fashion is as meh as always for a Korean red carpet. Nice to see some actresses deviate from wearing black or white though! Surprisingly I really like Kim Go Eun’s look despite it being black. The dress has very interesting details and belt and a quirky vintage look which suits her styling and stands out despite the colour because it is so distinctive compared to the usual bridal collections and plain gowns.
Kim Hyung-seo(BIBI) gave probably one of the most genuinely funny and sincere award acceptance speech I ever saw in my life. No idea who she was until that point but I was enamoured by her speech. So adorable that even Song Joong-ki was laughing and looked like a proud oppa and I dont even know how he knows her since Asianwiki tells me they did not work together. No, it was really good.
Actually so many good speeches. Someone mentioned a friend who passed away recently and he hopes to give comfort to the friends’ wife. I dont remember the name of the actor but heartbreaking stuff. Kim Soo-hyun’s speech also was so sincere despite being short. He mentioned hoping to bring happiness to everyone via his work and that that would in turn make him happy. Lee Honey looked wonderful and very surprised to have won and it was cute when they kept panning to Lee Jong-won in the audience and Hwang Jung-min’s whole speech made me tear up. All in all, fail on the fashion aspect, but so much heart from most of the winners.
Lee Jung Ha’s brother-in-law passed away. So he was taking about his pregnant sister, who is now a widow.
My Korean is mediocre at best and neither can I call myself a big KSH fan even if he is an outstanding actor. However, I am big on KHY and LJH so I snoop around for knetz feedback a lot in the past few weeks. I wont talk about either since this is not a relevant post for that. I will mention however someone relevant; in the general hot forums, the topic of KSH is chili hot hot hot.
For BAA, each winner had the one regular post but KSH alone had six whole posts with view counts of over 50k each and so so so many comments; 1. winning his award 2. His toilet fumble 3. Red carpet, 4. Dont-look-up photo with AYJ 5. Solo Dont-look-up selfies 6. Na PD’s comments on how nice he is and wanting to invite him to a variety show. If something else had happened to him, that would be there too. If you go to hot forums, you will know how atypical it is for a celebrity – singer or actor – to have this many posts on every small thing they do at an awards that is full of other A list celebs.
Even here you will see 80% of the comments talking about him. What inspires me about KSH is his longevity in the industry. For someone in the business for 18 years, he is still talked about like he is some unknown actor who needs to be discovered. Knetizens love his acting but seem to love his goofiness and earnestness equally. I am curious if he has hidden this side of him before and that is what causes the stirr. To conclude, his ability to keep everyone enthralled for this long has me slightly jealous. I don’t know his secret to it but I would love to find out.
There is a video on JTBC Voyage YT channel titled “Why Does This Only Happen To Kim Soo Hyun?” currently has over 1M views. The top comments with 1-2K upvotes basically say despite being top of the top, he’s still humble and does what he’s asked to do without being self cautious. On top of that he’s a genius at his main job as an actor.
My crush Vincenzo corn salad looking hot as usual. KSH is such a snack too.
I have to start watching Moving, must be really good to win Daesang.
Just found out KSH was evaluated for only 8 episodes instead of 16. So freaking unfair. I was completely okay with him not winning because other candidates were also deserving. But in my mind, I thought it was crazy he did not win. His performance was bone tinglingly good in the latter half of the drama and I personally found it better than everyone else. But now I know the reason of why he did not win, it makes me so upset.
He was included in the nominees list after evaluating 4 episodes (proof of just how strong of a candidate he was) but they could not even wait till the drama was done to vote for best actor? The timing is unfortunate but this is Baeksang’s rules they created themselves. If they weren’t willing to wait, then they should have nominated him for next year instead. Even Korea was expecting him to get either Best Actor or Daesang so this is just bad decision from Baeksang to not fairly evaluate.
ARGH. So freaking annoyed but whatever. What is done is done. KSH can just win for Knock off. Hope it completely airs by the time they pick winners. Not worried about the nomination part at all. 4 episodes after all was enough to get him in.
Before anyone attacks with proof demands. Here:

OMG?!! no wonder the baeksang nomination vid only showed the earlier episodes. i was thinking wtf would they not go with the accident, hospital or drunk confession scenes. This is frustrating af if even the media called it out. U mentioned it too, not an issue of getting in the nomi list again bt I wntd him to win or at least get judged properly for HW. almost rather not have known this…
Ah ksh, confirm your new drama asap, release it immediarely n get the trophy next yr to compensate!!
