It will be a travesty of everything good in drama land if Joseon Gunman turns out to be a dud after dropping the most ridiculously gorgeous and eye-catching promotional materials in all of K-drama fare this year. I suppose the consolation prize is knowing that even if the drama sucks leading man Lee Jun Ki will be bringing it in … Continue reading →
I still remember the first time I heard Park Shin Hye sing. It was five years ago in episode 1 of You’re Beautiful and she was auditioning in lieu of her twin brother character for a boy band even though she was a novice nun. The drama was more entertaining than her singing was memorable but she did contribute tracks … Continue reading →
Dr. Stranger challenges me as a recapper to find new and fun ways to describe how random, repetitive, and/or wildly ridiculous it is. Today’s episode was like the best of all three of its fatal flaws combined into one handy dandy nugget. The will he operate-won’t he operate mind-changing over the first operation battle in episodes 8 literally got a … Continue reading →
Her Royal Highness Empress Ki arrived in Taiwan to kick-off promotions for the soon-to-air sageuk with lots of fanfare. Ha Ji Won is looking so ridiculously high wattage movie star at the Taiwan press conference for her hit K-drama which will probably be popular in Taiwan as sell since the audience there laps up her dramas and has a fondness … Continue reading →
SBS is having a very bad no good two weeks after the spectacular collapse of the Dr. Stranger narrative on Mon-Tues and a preemption last week for the Wed episode of You’re All Surrounded due to the election coverage. This week is no better for resurrecting Dr. Stranger and even more bad news has befallen YAAS with word that this … Continue reading →
Watching episode 11 of Dr. Stranger immediately makes me think of the phrase now in the urban lexicon of “crack is whack.” That statement is true except sadly the person who said it was excoriating the rock form of cocaine not because it’s an illegal substance but because it’s cheap. So the phrase primarily indicates oblivious ridiculousness in taking what is … Continue reading →
Hate to say it for all the other upcoming K-dramas, but it’s heads and tails Joseon Gunman leading the pack in quality and stirring up excitement. I know sageuks aren’t for everyone but this one screams “can’t be missed!” Coming from the production team behind The Princess’s Man, a sageuk that delivered on both quality storytelling along with soul-searing romance, … Continue reading →
The concept teaser is out for the upcoming music-themed K-drama Lovers of Music (Trot Lovers) and I have to say it’s interesting. I like how some K-dramas prepare concept teasers which don’t contain footage from the actual drama but instead might be like a tiny MV of sorts where the lead(s) act out a heightened scenario of what the drama … Continue reading →
It’s been a hot mess two weeks in greater-Chinese entertainment news when it comes to epic cheating scandals. I don’t even know which one to tackle first, but since famous Taiwanese illustrator-turned-writer Wan Wan‘s abject “I’m sorry” apology doodle is the post topper then let’s start with her. Wan Wan is Taiwan’s Queen of Doodles, a graphic illustrator who rocketed … Continue reading →
Aaron Yan may be multi-talented but he honestly only works in a few settings. I love his singing and his latest mini-album Drama just dropped last month and is fantastic especially with the two songs from the album that are theme songs for his currently airing drama Fall in Love with Me. The opening song “1/2” with Aaron and Korean popstar … Continue reading →
Two new snippets dropped for Dr. Stranger today to give a hint of what’s to come in episode 11. The production already released new stills showing Soo Hyun and Hoon goofing off around the hospital. It looked like he was flicking her on the forehead, which might earn him another kick to the nuts in the now patented Soo Hyun … Continue reading →
In what might be perfect as a parody project but is instead a serious undertaking, China is capitalizing on the success of the two biggest K-dramas last year by mashing the the two together into a nugget of sure-to-be pure awful. Filming begun last week on a C-movie called Heirs From Another Star (來自星星的繼承者們) which is literally the spliced together … Continue reading →
It’s been a particularly mentally exhausting week as a K-drama watcher following along with the current offerings. A few Wed-Thurs dramas got preempted for elections coverage thereby halving the drama fix, and then Dr. Stranger was the talk of the town in the Mon-Tues slot with its spectacular nose dive in logic, execution, plot, and continued fandom sniping behind-the-scenes. If … Continue reading →
