Next week Pretty Boy ends which means the long in production Age of Feeling (Inspiring Generation) with Kim Hyun Joong finally sees the light of day. I’m actually very intrigued both in terms of the story as well as whether this drama has a chance to put a dent in the runaway success of You From Another Star. Normally big-budget … Continue reading →
It feels like Pretty Boy is the drama that drama-watchers have forgotten about. I rarely hear anyone still watching it and its abysmal ratings isn’t balanced out by a rabid online fanbase that other lowly rated dramas in the past such as Playful Kiss or even Jang Geun Seok‘s own Love Rain had. On the flip side is that no … Continue reading →
The first ever official still is out for the upcoming period movie The King’s Wrath starring Hyun Bin in his first post-military acting role. The Korean title for the movie isn’t the literal translation into the English title but has its own deeper meaning. The title is 역린 (Yeokrin 逆鱗) which represents the scale on a mythical dragon’s neck which … Continue reading →
Despite my love for Prime Minister and I, its single digit ratings is clearly not bringing the happy for KBS and also for the rom-com genre in general. No wonder KBS is reaching back to its tried and true formula of melodramas for the post-PM slot called Full Sun clearly hoping to follow in the footsteps of Nice Guy and Secret. The drama … Continue reading →
Oh man, I cannot believe In A Good Way went there and then managed to integrate it into the story. Episode 7 ended at the start of New Year 1997, but the latest video preview for episode 8 indicates a time jump to the Summer of ’97. Let me explain because that Summer the entire island was gripped in the … Continue reading →
Last year on New Year’s day of 2013, K-ent was rocked with the stunning and out-of-nowhere news that Hallyu superstar and abtastic Rain was dating brainy A-list actress Kim Tae Hee. It really was a WTF moment to hear the news, not that I wasn’t happy for them but the general “where the heck did this come from” confusion. I … Continue reading →
With Lee Bo Young winning the Daesang at the 2013 SBS Year End Drama Awards, this caps off an actress sweep of the Daesangs across all three major networks. Her drama I Hear Your Voice was both a ratings hit for SBS and very well received by critics and audiences alike so in addition to Lee Bo Young her co-star … Continue reading →
It’s time for the KBS 2013 Drama Awards and this one was once again a mixed bag. I was expecting the Daesang to go to Lee Bo Young since she headlined the biggest ratings drama of the year with My Daughter Seo Young for KBS but its airing dates may have worked against it since it started in September of … Continue reading →
New TW-drama alert and I have to admit to waiting for this particular drama and its full casting confirmation for months and months now, ever since Joe Cheng was discharged from the army. Famed Taiwanese Director Winnie (Qu You Ning) had been prepping this drama for two years and when Joe revealed after his discharge that his first comeback project … Continue reading →
Guh, episode 7 of Prime Minister and I was soooooo good. Its ratings went up to 8.9% since there was no competition with MBC preempting Empress Ki and SBS did the same with Warm Words. No clue whether this bit of ratings jump will stick but for now I’m thrilled because episode 7 was funny and substantive and increasing the … Continue reading →
A new C-drama has just started filming this weekend and its something I’m totally looking forward to. I wrote about the upcoming Lady and Liar (千金女贼) with C-actress Tang Yan last month when it was announced as the next project by successful drama producer Chen Yu Shan after the ratings busting run of her last drama King of Lan Ling … Continue reading →
MBC started off the year end awards show circuit first among the three big networks but being fast doesn’t necessarily mean it got its act together. This network had the shakiest offerings all year in both ratings and quality and in hindsight it had only two dramas worth remembering in Two Weeks and Scandal: That Very Shocking and Immoral Incident. … Continue reading →
While MBC is preempting both episodes of Empress Ki and SBS is doing the same for Warm Words, KBS is the sole network airing a new episode of its Mon-Tues drama Prime Minister and I. But only one episode 7 will air tonight and thus the broadcast schedule will be disrupted. KBS has decided to add one more episode to … Continue reading →
