Let me take this opportunity to remind folks that the South Korean law that requires all able-bodied males to serve a mandatory two years of military service is not to purely an exercise in turning boys-into-men. It serves as a glaring reminder that the Korean peninsula is at war, even if the for the past 60 years there has been … Continue reading →
If ever there was a public appearance by a celebrity who looks like death warmed over, that would be Park Shi Hoo being photographed as he went to the police station yesterday for his second interview. This summons was not for him alone, both A and K were also summoned and appeared as well. All three were summoned to undergo … Continue reading →
Well well well, can we say hubba hubba to this? Chun Jung Myung (or my delicious PIE as he’s known around dramaland) has been rather low key as he films the upcoming movie Queen of the Night with Kim Min Jung, reuniting after they last starred in Fashion 70s back in 2006. They were the second leads in that drama but … Continue reading →
Janine Chang was the guest reporter for Vogue Taiwan March edition and her assignment was to go to Seoul to interview mega-star Jung Woo Sung. First she works with Zai Zai, then she hits up Jung Woo Sung? Girlfriend just became my #1 most jealous-of actress. Janine wrote up the piece itself and its so lively and thoughtfully written. She … Continue reading →
Does the world need another drama adaptation of Itazura na Kiss? No, definitely not. Is the world about to get another drama adaptation of Itazura na Kiss? Yes, definitely yes. I thought the next country to remake this story would come from China since it hasn’t been done yet, but lo and behold its from the original granddaddy of adaptations … Continue reading →
I’m sure some folks must be wandering if all the updates I’m bringing on the Park Shi Hoo rape case is made up. It’s not, because if I were to make things up, it surely wouldn’t be the baloney and hogwash that has been coming out of the case over in Korea steadily for the last three weeks. In case … Continue reading →
I do not get the upcoming melodrama When a Man Loves at all. I don’t get the cast – a collection of mostly terrible actors that also don’t give me hope they can evince enough chemistry to overcome the inherent acting limitations. I don’t get the story concept – a man marries a woman who used to be married to … Continue reading →
We’re a little less than one-month out before the deluge of high-profile sageuks hits the small screen and there has been a noticeable dearth of spoilers and stills for those dramas. I’m hoping starting this week the networks will start dropping goodies because as of last week all the main cast members for Gu Family Book, Jang Ok Jung, Live … Continue reading →
So are we all getting used to the idea of a sorta sequel to Bu Bu Jing Xin, set in modern times with the same OTP but most everyone else being different? Does seeing a side-by-side look at Nicky Wu in his Emperor Yongzheng costume versus his modern character Yin Zheng’s get up help? Nicky was the last of the … Continue reading →
I’ve been bemused by all the cascading developments in the Park Shi Hoo rape investigation not because its a funny matter but the sheer outlandishness of the seemingly unending media warfare between the two sides gives new meaning to one-upsmanship. It feels like the moment A’s side drops a bombshell, Park Shi Hoo’s side returns a volley and it’s the … Continue reading →
Consider me one of the doubters who was thoroughly converted by the unexpected chemistry of Janine Chang and Peter Ho. Both have been long-standing Taiwan idol drama staples but with all the musical chairs pairing somehow they never worked together until Ring Ring Bell in 2011. That year also saw Janine and Mike He charm my socks and shoes off … Continue reading →
Oh the pretty, you slay me with too much pretty. Yoo Seung Ho, who happily and voluntarily trotted off to the army earlier this week (as opposed to some other celebs who shall remain unnamed but have been accused of delaying until the very last minute or worse yet draft dodging with minor ailments blown out of proportion), left behind … Continue reading →
It’s raining Rich Man, Poor Woman goodies here. Not that I’m complaining, what with the dearth of K-dramas these days having at least a J-dorama to look forward to helps fill the void. Yes, technically its just a two-hour SP, but I’m choosing to believe that it reduces RMPW to everything that is good about it while discarding all the … Continue reading →
