As an Asian-American growing up in the 80s and 90s, the most famous name in Asian-American chick/family lit was Amy Tan. I’ve read all her works up until the most recent novel. My appreciation for her early storytelling talent and her expansion of the genre outside of its niche will always remain, even if as a writer I find that … Continue reading →
This is so random, but its a reality so I might as well post about it. Who knows, maybe in 15 years it’ll be the equivalent of the Asian TV Golden Globes. CreateHK, the Commerce and Economic Bureau agency that aims to promote Hong Kong’s creative industries, is holding the first annual Asia Rainbow Awards, which is an awards ceremony … Continue reading →
After hearing about the editing debacle that was the last episode of Sign, it just reinforces my belief that K-dramas should aim to be pre-produced, for the health, safety, and sanity of the the production crew and the viewers. With that said, K-dramas not only live shoot, lately its also pretty last minute on confirming some casting news. SBS notoriously … Continue reading →
I really don’t know what’s going on with Wu Zun and Fahrenheit (with conflicting reports left and right as to whether he’s left the group or not), but I do know for a fact that he’ll be back on the small screen on May 22, 2011 on CTV! His long-completed Sunshine Angel with Rainie Yang has snagged the coveted post-Sunny … Continue reading →
Vogue Girl Korea‘s March issue is it’s annual pink issue, and this year it assembled another batch of starlets to model for its Pink Wings charity campaign – this year its to help young adults who are their families’ main financial support. Funds are raised through sales of participating fashion brands. I’ve collected some of my favorite of the pictures … Continue reading →
I love Weibo. Weibo is my friend, because it brings me goodies galore. Y’all know I love Zai Zai (Vic Zhou), and his upcoming drama Coming Home is one of my most anticipated dramas of the year. Filming was completed last month, and the drama has headed into post-production. It’s a China-Taiwan collaboration, and I haven’t heard any definitive airdates from either … Continue reading →
It’s weird how my excitement for upcoming SBS drama 49 Days has dropped considerably the closer its gets to its premiere date next Wednesday. Don’t get me wrong, my interest is not being lowered by what I’ve seen of the trailers or stills, but more likely fatigue from the promotional deluge. The production released a full 10-minute trailer for the drama, … Continue reading →
Sunny Happiness is like an exquisite layer cake, to borrow the pastry analogy from our heroine Yong Yong’s love of baking. The cake itself is delicious when eaten as a whole, all the different flavor layers blending together into its own unique dessert. But I also like to nibble on each layer separately, to taste the original yet disparate flavors … Continue reading →
Not keen on letting JYP hog all the media attention after the success of Dream High, and not worried about the grand pratfall that befell Playful Kiss, SM Entertainment wants to take its best shot at producing a teen drama. And not just any old teen drama, it’s a literary adaptation that involves boarding school and cross-dressing. Oh shit, what … Continue reading →
Hold on to your knickers, Sunny Happiness fans! Remember how I discussed that SH has two broadcast versions, the China version (45 minutes an episode at 25 episodes total, which is done with its run), and the Taiwan version (1 hour an episode at 16 episodes total, currently aired only 4 episodes). Well, the production of Down With Love also … Continue reading →
I love this song, I love this collaboration, and I love this MV. But I’m kinda enviously hating on the fact that Namie Amuro is in her thirties, has a thirteen year old son, and still looks that smoking when she’s performing. One of the legacy queens of J-pop Namie Amuro, who has had a resurgence in recent years, released … Continue reading →
Normally the tail end of a rom-com is where random plot obstacles pop up left and right to keep our lovers apart. It’s almost like the drama writer wants to make sure that we, the viewers, feel like our OTP has earned the right to be together. Which is a seriously wack supposition. Conflict has to be organic, and the … Continue reading →
The upcoming Drunken to Love You, the highly anticipated TW-drama followup to the record breakingly popular Fated to Love You, just secured its air date, yet it’s barely begun filming. DTLY will premiere in April on SETTV, following the currently airing Channel X (please will some kind soul put my poor Joe Cheng and adorable Amber Kuo out of their misery). The … Continue reading →
