SBS is off to a good start with Hot Stove League doing well in Fri-Sat ratings so the stage is set for it’s successor drama Hyena when it takes over in late February. We already have a Shark and a Wolf in K-drama land so of course a Hyena wouldn’t be out of place especially as the predator that scavenges … Continue reading →
One reason why I’m enjoying Crash Landing on You so much is the rich and layered characterizations of the supporting and even ancillary characters. Even the small roles are memorable and even better perfectly cast, case in point North Korean military officer Hyun Bin’s four subordinate soldiers in his border squad Company Five. There’s Yang Kyung Won as the ornery but … Continue reading →
Get ready for the second wave to come of likely more depressing reveals about another K-star. K-ent is reporting that a Top Star A is also among the stars hacked by the recent blackmailer of Joo Jin Mo, whose texts with Jang Dong Gun from 2013 were released after he refused to pay up. Good for him, bad for his … Continue reading →
Rising K-actor Jang Dong Yoon‘s next drama the cable network OCN thriller Search is getting lots of attention thanks to his breakout performance in KBS sageuk The Tale of Nokdu. I loved his chemistry with female lead Kim So Hyun which was critical to the drama since its a romance first and foremost. Search is billed as an action thriller … Continue reading →
Just as I was not feeling Park Min Young‘s high school hair style in upcoming jTBC drama I’ll Come Find You When the Weather is Good, the drama allays my concerns with the first stills of her adult character looking very becoming. She’s sporting wavy locks with body and a simple chic middle-ish part. The makeup is very understated as … Continue reading →
I didn’t cover the disbandment of male idol group X1 two weeks ago, as rightfully so with the news that it’s entire season of Produce X 101 was fully vote rigged. The problem with the vote rigging isn’t that every winner out of the 10 would not have made it, it’s that we’ll never know who would have made it … Continue reading →
The first big name K-star military discharge of 2020 honor goes to actor Go Kyung Pyo, who finished up his two years of mandatory service this week. His enlistment was rather low key and honestly I didn’t quite feel the gap left by his departure and that was due to his star rising just to the level of getting his … Continue reading →
The Joo Jin Mo phone hack scandal and the ensuing public reaction is nuanced in many ways and the biggest victim appears to be Jang Dong Gun. Even Joo Jin Mo is a victim because his phone got back and private conversations were made public, and those conversations the public had no right or expectation to see even if Joo … Continue reading →
The 2020 Weibo Awards, celebrating the 2019 year so perhaps the 2019 Weibo Awards would be more apt but it’s held this weekend in January 2020 so imma stick with this year, brought together China’s most popular stars and the platform where they get to curate and expand their popularity. The fashion looks remains my sole interest and it was … Continue reading →
I wonder if setting K-dramas in the boondocks is the new IT thing. Last year in 2019 there was When the Camellia Blooms, currently there is the mopey and super sad Chocolate set in both a desolate countryside and also a podunk island, and coming soon will be I’ll Come Find You When the Weather is Fine. Also set in … Continue reading →
Well this is a surprise pairing and certain to elicit plenty of commentary considering how vocal each fanbase is. Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung are both in talks for a later in 2020 cable network Livetime Channel K-drama called Night Convenience Store. It’s billed as a cute romance with a bad convenience store night clerk with a 4D … Continue reading →
The weather hasn’t turned nice or fine yet but emotionally I’m feeling the urge for the winter thaw now that the holidays are over. Cable network jTBC is filming the upcoming countryside based romance drama I’ll Find You When the Weather is Fine starring Park Min Young and Seo Kang Joon. The drama released the first teaser poster and two … Continue reading →
Okay, I’m in a state of happiness and trepidation with the news of this upcoming new K-drama. Top stars Lee Jun Ki and Moon Chae Won are confirmed for the K-drama The Flower of Evil, reuniting three years after doing the K-adaptation of Criminal Minds together. This time they play a married couple but this is no romance lovey dovey … Continue reading →
