C-dramas have recycled the same male leads and female leads for the last five years it’s come to a point where the top 5 actresses have worked with the all top 5 actors and it’s back to the drawing board. Every year there are winners and losers in ratings and box office choices for entertainment stars, and the ebbs and flows of a long career means there are plenty of ups and downs for each. 2017 is undoubtedly a great year for K-actress Lee Wo Yon, she picked a critically acclaimed and ratings hit drama with Baumdong Revenge Club (Avengers … Continue reading →
Korea’s cadre of amazing child drama and movie actors and actresses are a testament against the culture’s predilection for one-size-fits-all plastic surgery. All the child actresses have grown up in front of the camera with each and every looking exactly the same in features as they have aged from child to young teens and finally young adult. Growing up doesn’t … Continue reading →
The end of 2017 feels bittersweet to me, with nary a K-drama or performance that truly touched me like previous years past. In particular some of my faves rather let me down and I’m primarily talking about Lee Jong Seok in SBS drama While You Were Sleeping. He didn’t put in a bad performance but conversely it was like all … Continue reading →
The content power rankings for Korean televisions programs for the entire year of 2017 is out and it’s a quite a feat that the leading show premiered in late 2016 and only aired three weeks into January 2017. tvN‘s fantasy drama Goblin from the screenwriter Kim Eun Seok and starring Hallyu superstar Goblin remains the content power ranking number 1 … Continue reading →
MBC has decided to take a sensible break from premiering new K-dramas in 2018 that dovetails nicely with the Pyeonchang 2018 Winter Olympics schedule. Mon-Tues drama Two Cops and Wed-Thurs drama I am Not a Robot both end in late January, and the Winter Olympics take place for two weeks in February when the Korean networks typically preempt dramas anyways … Continue reading →
There are many things outside my control, way more than within my control, and I’ve long since learned to live and let live to accept what comes. Issues have not been resolved yet with the woebegone filming problems of tvN fantasy drama Hwayugi, a drama that should have had at least another month of filming before premiering and now finds … Continue reading →
I think this is a great idea but have a feeling that the network is parlaying a scheduling blip into great publicity. MBC has announced that it won’t be airing any new K-dramas until March 2017, when the current crop of prime time dramas Two Cops on Mon-Tues and I am Not a Robot on Wed-Thurs end in January the … Continue reading →

Last but not least in the coverage of year end K-drama network awards is the 2017 KBS Drama Awards held the same night as SBS, with MBC the night before. Well, there’s a second K-ent couple to start off the new year in 2018, or first if based on the timing of when this news hit vis-a-vis the other one. The news of Lee Joon and Jung So Min‘s dating captured my attention and I glanced over the other news of Big Bang‘s G-Dragon seen on a Jeju Island holiday … Continue reading →
The year end 2017 SBS Drama Awards was really the Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young show, with the married acting couple basically turning the event into their own lovey dovey showcase and honestly that’s fine with me. They are so low key for so long, let them enjoy the limelight for once when both do deserve it. Ji Sung … Continue reading →
