This Saturday is the premiere of tvN drama Hwayugi (A Korean Odyssey) and my optimism remains high even as excitement is tempered by the sad news overwhelming K-ent this week with the passing of a much loved male idol. The drama has released official posters, held the press conference, and dropped the long preview so I was surprised to see … Continue reading →
Farewell and sleep soundly, dear prince of the K-ent music scene. While Jonghyun of SHINee was just one of the many popular male idols in K-ent, and the group even being on the tail end of its life cycle, his suicide yesterday hits home once again that glitz, glamour, fame, and fortune does not equal happiness and inside every person … Continue reading →
I’m so tired from waiting for Yoon Eun Hye to pick her next project I’d rather she take the first one to come along rather than continue this acting hiatus. Acting and popularity both require consistent output so it’s with a hopeful heart that I’m getting excited for upcoming 2018 romance drama Love Like a Human. Yoon Eun Hye has … Continue reading →
It’s jarring to have one happy news drop nearly simultaneously as one tragic news but that’s what happened in K-ent on this Monday December 18th. News of Big Bang‘s Taeyang marrying his actress girlfriend Min Hyo Rin actually broke before news of the sudden passing of SHINee lead singer Jonghyun but of course the wedding news has taken an understandable … Continue reading →
This is such terrible and sad news and I’m bereft to have to write another passing away news update for K-ent so soon yet again. K-news is reporting and has been confirmed agency SM Entertainment that idol Jonghyun (Kim Jong Hyun) of boy group SHINee has passed away. He was found unconscious in his apartment building and already deceased, with … Continue reading →
Fashion has different parameters on the musical stage much like makeup for stage performances is so much thicker and dramatic to show under the bright lights. Rainie Yang held her two-night Youth Lies Within tour in Taipei this weekend and put on quite a show for concert-goers. The concert movies to Hong Kong in February and hopefully she’ll continue to … Continue reading →
What the what is going on with Gong Yoo‘s hair. The mane of glory so often seen on properly styled K-drama male leads in sageuks can be applied here to modern day Gong Yoo in the upcoming January 2018 Elle Korea cover and pictorial. That he’s landed the cover of the first issue of the new year of a ladies … Continue reading →
I love self-deprecation especially in the entertainment industry since it can get too pompous and self-congratulatory. The 2017 C-star Awards were a blast to watch because it was just stars being sincerely thankful to be popular and having fun being a little bit silly. The winners all had to receive a prize that was either a vegetable or fruit, and … Continue reading →
Congratulations is in order for PD Shin Won Ho of the Answer Me drama series in achieving yet another drama success and one that is outside his most famous franchise. PD Shin’s latest tvN drama Wise Prison Living (Prison Playbook) is a solid success halfway through airing with every episode increasing from the last. The drama started off with 4.638% … Continue reading →
Things may be thawing between South Korea and Mainland China, or at least both sides are attempting to warm things up. South Korean President Moon Jae In visited Beijing last week along with Hallyu top actress Song Hye Kyo and three members of the boy idol group EXO for the opening ceremony of the Korea-China Economic and Trade Partnership Forum. … Continue reading →
I forgot Chae Rim was also pregnant and part of the huge K-actress baby boom of 2017, so a big congrats to her and her C-actor husband Gao Zi Qi on welcoming the arrival of their baby last week. The couple had a healthy baby boy and Gao Zi Qi posted the baby’s arrival foot and footprint on his SNS … Continue reading →
I have to give the Hong Sisters credit, when their creative ideas work it does become something memorable even with hiccups. Their fantasy-tinged dramas like My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and The Master’s Sun remain dramas with strong positive goodwill and I’m hoping the upcoming Hwayugi (A Korean Odyssey) continues that trend. The drama doesn’t air until next Saturday December … Continue reading →
It’s funny but the moment I saw the cast, genre, and synopsis it was like a deja vu moment. Cable network Chosun TV has announced a sageuk romance drama for early 2018 called Grand Prince (Daegun which is more accurately crown prince) and has cast Joo Sang Wook, Yoon Si Yoon, and Jin Se Yeon. It’s a love triangle between … Continue reading →
