The viewers have spoke again, this time a poll on what Korean audiences think is the best K-dramas of the second half of 2017. Topping the list is jTBC hit Women of Dignity followed by tvN drama Secret Forest (Stranger), both of which got rave reviews and huge ratings for cable when it aired. Coming in third is KBS drama … Continue reading →
After Black I’m now conditionally on the OCN drama train, and I condition it on whether the drama casts actors and actresses I like. Otherwise OCN’s genre specific thriller dramas are not the easiest watch, often times the subject matter is darker than dark when one seeks K-drama watching as escapism entertainment. With that said, I’m onboard for OCN’s early … Continue reading →
It’s pretty hilarious that the top four (4!) vote-getters in the just released Galluop poll of Korean drama viewers on the best drama actor/actress in 2017 did not actually star in a K-drama in 2017. Well, one of the top four had a 2016 started K-drama end in January 2017 but otherwise it’s clear that star power on a super … Continue reading →
Another K-ent star baby has arrived as married former drama costars Lee Dong Gun and Jo Yoon Hee announced the healthy birth of their daughter on December 14th. Mom and baby are still at the hospital but are doing well. Lee Dong Gun and Jo Yoon Hee‘s love story is all 2017, meeting on the set of weekend drama Laurel … Continue reading →
There’s a phrase called shock and awe but I’ll have to modify it shock and envy when it comes to K-actress Song Hye Kyo. She’s had one of the best years of her life in 2017 with the marriage to now-husband and also top Hallyu star Song Joong Ki, not because she married well but because she found the love … Continue reading →
Turns out there’s been a reversal in holding year end network drama awards, with MBC deciding to hold it after initially considering cancellation, and KBS wanting to hold theirs but now confirming that it will be cancelled this year. KBS hasn’t a hit in the prime time slot with only Chief Kim and Witch’s Court doing okay well, but it … Continue reading →
I must’ve blinked on this news but it’s never too late to catch up on the congrats. C-actress Ying Er announced her pregnancy today on SNS and I didn’t even know she was married so this took me by surprise. Turns out this past August she revealed that she was dating her Chinese version of We Got Married costar and … Continue reading →
Hoo boy is the excitement really heating up now for the December 23rd arrival of tvN fantasy drama Hwayugi (A Korean Odyssey). And right before Christmas, too, so if the drama turns out to be fantastic it’ll feel like a present from the drama clause just for me being good this year. The drama released two official drama posters, the … Continue reading →
There is finally news on the acting front for K-actress Yoon Eun Hye, coming at the tail end of 2017 when she was supposed to have made an acting comeback this year already. The drama is a 2018 rom-com called Love Like a Human. It’s the romance between a super emotional woman and a humanoid AI robot. Oh jeez this … Continue reading →
News of Korean entertainers changing agencies is par for the course but this one merits an added thought piece because I’m truly baffled by the pairing, longevity, and career trajectory of the star and agency on question. Actress Gu Hye Sun has left YG Entertainment after 14 years with the powerhouse agency, a rarity in loyalty but I don’t know … Continue reading →
I hope K-actor and singer Jang Geun Seok is living a very happy life and is satisfied with his career trajectory. As a drama fan he was once one of the most promising young actors of his generation but his acting career basically stalled after hitting a career popularity high in 2009 with You’re Beautiful, and the intervening 8 years … Continue reading →
I love a good bicker laden drama as long as the humor is on point and used judiciously to break up tense moments or set up a punch line. K-drama Hwayugi (A Korean Odyssey) posits that the Chinese classic tale characters of the Monkey King, Monk, and Bull Demon King are in modern Korea and still have to deal with … Continue reading →
Congrats to KBS weekend drama My Golden Life for just breaking the 40% AGB ratings threshold with this weekend’s episode 30, hitting 41.8% nationwide and cementing it as the highest rated drama of 2017. The drama still has another 20-episodes left and could break 50% if it keeps increasing, with viewer stickiness very high with this drama and also the … Continue reading →
