Another year and another glamorous selection to rep a thoroughly unglamorous thing. The Korean National Tax Service has selected as this year’s good tax payer tax goodwill ambassadors the A-list acting talent of Jo In Sung and Choi Ji Woo. Last year it was Ha Ji Won and Gong Yoo so clearly the agency has great taste and eye for visual … Continue reading →
Filming is underway already for the big budget C-drama adaptation of Tong Hua‘s ancient romance novel Once Promised, the parental generation prequel to Lost You Forever. The c-drama will deviate from the story involvingg ancient Chinese fantasy gods and goddesses, starting with giving the drama the new title of Ancient Love Song and all the character names have been changed. … Continue reading →
I can’t say this is the best drama cast around but it’s certainly worth checking out for Namgong Min finally getting a normal leading man role. Cameras are rolling for the next SBS weekend drama called The Beauty of the Beast (Beast’s Beauty), premiering on May 14th after Mrs. Cop 2. Unlike the PD and screenwriter’s last drama The Girl … Continue reading →
KBS can finally start rolling on upcoming Mon-Tues medical mystery drama Beautiful Mind (formerly known as Dr. Frankenstein) now that it has a leading man confirmed. Jang Hyuk is inked for the role of the brilliant but cold physician who undergoes an emotional awakening in a drama that has been in the works for nearly two years. It follows after currently … Continue reading →
The Chinese red carpet events whether awards or festivals continue to be more satortially interesting than the Korean counterparts. It’s not uniformly winning but there is diversity in color, style, cut, and trends that lighten up the visual enjoyment. There was so much uniqueness on display at last week’s 6th annual Beijing International Film Festival that I ended up liking … Continue reading →
Now this is what sweetly sincere and useful synergy. Top young actor stars Song Joong Ki and Park Bo Young reunited last week after doing their hit movie A Werewolf Boy together four years ago in 2012 with Director Jo Sung Hee. This reunion was specifically for Director Jo, namely to support and cheer on his upcoming new movie Phantom … Continue reading →
This is fantastic and reassuring drama casting news for me – rising acting talent Yoon Kyun Sang and Lee Sung Kyung are confirmed for upcoming SBS drama Doctors (formerly called Female Gangster Hye Jung). They will join leads Kim Rae Won and Park Shin Hye in a story centered around the neurosurgery department of a top Seoul hospital. This casting … Continue reading →
If asked to vote on it, I think it’s safe to bet that the outcome would be a landslide of 100 nays to 0 yays when it comes to Taiwan dramas making another adaptation of popular Japanese manga Itazura na Kiss (It Started with a Kiss). The 2005 TW-drama version It Started with a Kiss was an instant classic thanks … Continue reading →
What can I say other that “wow” and “awwwww” upon seeing the latest fashion pictorial starring the supremely popular C-actor Hu Ge. His popularity surging to new heights this past year thanks to three critically well-received dramas in Nirvana in Fire, The Disguiser, and Good Times ushered in a new generation of fans for him, whereas I’ve been with him … Continue reading →
I’m normally live and let live with entertainment products – producers have a right to make whatever and it’s up to audiences to watch or ignore. But with this latest offering it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the taste of crass selling out and the ruination of a classic original. Korean-Chinese co-produced movie My Sassy Girl 2 … Continue reading →
There’s a change of plans over at KBS and it’s not clear the reason behind it. The network has announced that summer melodrama Uncontrollably Fond with Kim Woo Bin and Suzy airing on Wed-Thurs in July will now be followed by young adult romance sageuk Moonlight Drawn by Clouds. It was originally supposed to be followed by flower boy sageuk … Continue reading →
I’m a dog person but it’s not for a lack of love for cats, I just don’t feel quite prepared to raise one of those complicated furry felines. For kicks I do watch cat videos and cackle over how much smarter cats are than my dog with tofu for brains. As the general populace is split between dog and cat … Continue reading →
I feel greedy this week thanks to the news that Gong Yoo was making a drama land return in a Kim Eun Sook drama. Hyun Bin has already done a Kim Eun Sook drama in Secret Garden which propelled him to new heights of popularity, all he has to do is pick a future project that returns him to the … Continue reading →
