A recent Korean ladies magazine poll at the end of March is an interesting peek into how the domestic female viewers feel about how the hot Korean actors the English-speaking drama world fangirls over. It’s not the same list, that’s for sure, if I were to take a poll there are certain names that would dominate even if he hasn’t … Continue reading →
Bigger isn’t necessarily better is a true adage in many situations, and almost certainly applies to dramas. Those aiming for bigger often find the collapse to be equally thunderous, which can make for entertaining watches for the exact opposite reasons of rubbernecking the hot mess. Premiering this April 3rd is the huge budget period C-drama God of War Zhao Zi … Continue reading →
With seemingly never aging HK-star Aaron Kwok in the gossip news recently after confirming his new relationship with a much much younger new starlet, all eyes are also trained on his ex-girlfriend model-actress Lynn Xiong (Lynn Hung). I’m glad Lynn’s not wallowing in misery or crying into a cup that Aaron has moved on, because she’s also moved on with … Continue reading →
A post has been recently making the rounds that collects the way back when pictures of the top Chinese and Taiwanese actresses from their earliest entertainment days. For this group it’s a journey of one to two decades of star ascension and with it plenty of growing sophistication in both style and the whittling away of fresh-faced ingenue aura. Crystal … Continue reading →
It seems late for a drama filming wrap party for Descendants of the Sun, which ended its shoot back in December of 2015. But if it’s a cast and crew celebratory party then the timing couldn’t be better, with this shindig hitting all the major newswires at a time when DotS is top of the ratings charts and every little … Continue reading →
There’s good and bad in everything as the universe naturally has a balance. That’s why I don’t think there is a cut and dry answer to the live-filming versus pre-produced divide in K-dramas, and even with the success of Descendants of the Sun I don’t think can be attributed solely to the drama being fully produced beforehand. That means upcoming … Continue reading →
A big shocker of a new K-ent dating relationship ends the work week on a buzzy note – yet another pair of SM Entertainment’s own pretties have hooked up! EXO‘s Kai and Krystal of f(x) have confirmed they are dating after being Dispatched (I’m making this a verb now) by the notorious tabloid. With the usual grainy parking garage pictures, … Continue reading →
Blogging has become so the norm for me that when I heard both female leads are named Oh Hae Young in the upcoming tvN drama Another Oh Hae Young, I immediately fretted over how to recap such a drama (if I was inclined to) and be able to refer to the two female characters when they share the exact same … Continue reading →
What a roaring return to form for Descendants of the Sun in this fantastic episode 12, putting to rest my worries from the last episode and delivering more than I hoped for. The Argus arc mercifully comes to a swift resolution, and while his villain character was never fleshed out at least Shi Jin’s emotional response feels real and gives … Continue reading →
I don’t know how I feel about the character arrangements in SBS new drama Entertainer, but I do know that I unabashedly love the just released first teaser. Only two of the four leads make their appearance as music agency president Ji Sung vogues and then shimmy and shakes in a convenience store after encountering dance bug bitten Hyeri. Despite … Continue reading →
Season 2 of We Are In Love, the Chinese version of We Got Married, if off to a fantastic start no less thanks to the most excellent casting of TW-actor Bolin Chen and K-actress Song Ji Hyo. The two are the well-deserved breakout stars of this season among the three couples, validating the early buzz around their casting and showing audiences … Continue reading →
This was one perfunctory episode of Descendants of the Sun and it came so unexpectedly, an hour that felt more like a crawl at really no fault of any particular element. The story line was pushed forward in ways that seemed to check off boxes – contain viral outbreak, check; little girl in peril, check; bad guy makes his move, … Continue reading →
It’s a bit of a late start to filming for upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Entertainer, but as a modern piece it likely needs less prep work. Starring Ji Sung, Hyeri of Girl’s Day, CNBLUE‘s Kang Min Hyuk, and Chae Jung Ahn, the music industry drama genre isn’t new to SBS as the network attempted it in the summer of ’14 … Continue reading →
