As usual for a Kim Eun Sook drama, the romance may ratchet up a notch even if feelings and intentions aren’t always cleared up in advance. It’s less a stumbling fumbling type of confusion, belonging more to the complications of adults sensing too many practical incompatibilities but not being able to turn off the attraction nodule. I continue to like … Continue reading →
The speed by which Descendants of the Sun burst out of the gate is making it a drama Secretariat, poised for a wire-to-wire lead and getting such a head start that it can cruise comfortably. This will likely be the last post about this drama’s ratings unless and until it breaks 30%, but still worth one more chat about today … Continue reading →
The drama hasn’t even aired yet and already the bromance has brewed offscreen. That’s good since the two male leads will be direct antagonists in upcoming SBS sageuk Jackpot, better like each other during filming and then ratchet up the acting animosity when cameras roll. SBS kinda did the roll out a bit backwards with Jackpot, it dropped the first … Continue reading →
So do we all get a badge now, one that says “I survived live-watching Cheese in the Trap and lived to tell the tale”. If the only entertaining thing to come out of this drama’s epic meltdown is spurring on the creativity of angry audiences to come up with ways to torture the PD and production, then that’s the vengeful … Continue reading →
It’s fantastic that a pre-produced big budget drama like Descendants of the Sun is getting the ratings enough to likely recoup and justify the cost. It’s important so that production companies remain willing to take such risks and continue to produce watchable fare that elevate the quality of K-drama entertainment. DotS is cheesy without being corny, like a best of … Continue reading →
Holy cheesy crabapple goodness! I guess we have a bona fide hit on our hands, not that I was doubting it but the speed is certainly impressive and surprising in this day and age of K-drama depressed ratings. Famed screenwriter Kim Eun Sook‘s new drama Descendants of the Sun aired episode 3 today and basically went to town on the … Continue reading →
That all the promotional materials for upcoming MBC Wed-Thurs drama Goodbye Mr. Black look genuinely promising, the official stills moreso than then first trailers for me, bodes well for this latecomer to the competitive time slot. Descendants of the Sun is already going well and judging by the noticeable ratings increase for Please Come Back Ahjusshi from the first to … Continue reading →
With a drama title like Marriage Contract, how can I not applaud the directness of this drama in wearing a vaulted K-drama trope so openly. Upcoming MBC drama Marriage Contract premieres this weekend after My Daughter Geum Sa Wol wrapped, but unlike that 50-episode behemoth this is just a comparatively short 16 episodes. Starring Lee Seo Jin and UEE, the … Continue reading →
There hasn’t been much secondary OTP screen time in the first two episodes of Descendants of the Sun, but that hasn’t stopped plenty of viewers from shipping the characters played by Jin Goo as a stoic soldier and Kim Ji Won as a fiery military doctor. Jin Goo is the most visually perfect casting among the four leads, and is … Continue reading →
SBS pull back a bit of the curtain today to offer a glimpse at upcoming Mon-Tues sageuk drama Jackpot (Daebak), which signals that long running Six Flying Dragons is ending soon as well as the coming return of Jang Geun Seok in period costume. The latter is the most shallow of reasons to watch Jackpot but for me one of the … Continue reading →
This drama casting news comes at such a perfect time to keep up the happy watch momentum from last week’s premiere of Descendants of the Sun. May is suddenly looking up and up thanks to the confirmed casting of Eric and Seo Hyun Jin for upcoming tvN drama Oh Hae Young Again (or Again, Oh Hae Young). It sounds like … Continue reading →
I’ve never been able to sit through an entire drama just for my favorite actor or actress if the story line doesn’t engage me. Even recently Yoo Seung Ho and Moon Geun Young‘s dramas lost me a few episodes in because it straddled that middle line of being okay but not all that interesting for me. I have watched entire … Continue reading →
The titular Monster (Tyrant) of upcoming MBC Mon-Tues drama makes his grand and not so grand entrance in the first official stills of Kang Ji Hwan in character. The drama is an epic 50-episoder that chronicles the life of the leading man from the 1997 financial crisis through the present day. Think Giant with a slightly shorter time span. Not sure … Continue reading →
