There are way worse things, even solely within the entertainment industry, than to have decreased screen time in a drama. I’m not as invested in the Cheese in the Trap meltdown since I stopped watching midway, but I think fans and audience members should consider taking a step back after fully venting and not keep the fanning the flames. The … Continue reading →
Last week’s premieres of the highly anticipated Wed-Thurs dramas Descendants of the Sun and Please Come Back Ahjusshi was off to a good start, but not at the level of astronomical ratings that latecomer competition Goodbye Mr. Black doesn’t have a chance to succeed when it premieres soon. I feel like having three good dramas doesn’t necessarily steal ratings away … Continue reading →
C-dramas are starting to feel like two degrees of separation with the same actors and actresses pairing up in varying combinations that still feel slightly incestuous. It may be my impression in that I’m interested in only certain dramas that star the actors or actresses that I like. In that respect, I’ve decided to be more free flowing and accept … Continue reading →
This pictorial makes me happy but the surprise cameo news makes me even happier. A-list young actor Yoo Ah In plays up his boyish and brooding side in a recent spread for Vogue Korea, a visual reminder of how impressive his meteoric success has been considering he’s still so young. He’s currently starring in the Mon-Tues ratings leader sageuk drama … Continue reading →
The epic meltdown that is Cheese in the Trap, both the recent drama story line and the behind-the-scenes mess, appears to have reached a conclusion. It’s probably the best and only thing that can happen to try and salvage the understandable audience frustration and fan anger over what has been one of the most glaring narrative shifts mid-drama that I … Continue reading →
In a short span of a month I’ve become a connoisseur of Kang Dong Won. Not a fan exactly but harbor a legit appreciation for the star that combines both his aura and acting talent. His movie A Violent Prosecutor with Hwang Jung Min is now the pacesetter for the 2016 Korean box office, already past the 6 million ticket … Continue reading →
The list is out for Forbes Korea magazine’s annual ranking of the 40 Most Powerful Celebrities, a ranking that takes into account a whole host of factors including buzz, name recognition, successful projects, number of CFs, and so forth. I hope to forestall useless arguing since just because you/he/she think your oppa or unni is the most popular person on … Continue reading →
K-actress Hwang Jung Eum just put the cherry on top of what has been a phenomenal year professionally for her. It started off with the unexpected success of Kill Me Heal Me and was followed up with the even more unexpected success of She Was Pretty. The took home lots of awards at the MBC year end drama awards and … Continue reading →
Normally the maybe death of a main character I love would make me sad but the end of the last chapter of Lost You Forever was a release for me much like it was for the leads. When Xiao Yao killed herself and took Zhuan Xu along with her, so it seems, it felt like a relief that they could … Continue reading →
It’s quite the ensemble of fashion fail that gathered in Seoul this week for the 2016 collection from brand Gentle Monster. Some may love the eclectic looks but every single major star in attendance crossed that fine line between fashionably kooky and fashionably silly. Sadly it’s all stars I like so I couldn’t help but cringe and keep on clicking … Continue reading →
Hoo boy, things are looking progressively more dire on the set of tvN drama Cheese in the Trap, which is actually ending soon but the drama offscreen is threatening to end things on a down note. The drama was super buzzy early on when casting since it’s based on a popular webtoon, and the early episodes premiered to great audience … Continue reading →
Descendants of the Sun feels like Kim Eun Sook is making refinement and tweaks to her usual playbook and style, enough to make things better but not so much as to render the drama unrecognizable to her stamp. I continue to love it after the second episode, the whole thing moves faster than a freight train on acid but without … Continue reading →
Looks like the fully pre-produced and simultaneous airing in China strategy has paid off for KBS drama Descendants of the Sun. Therewere few more upcoming K-dramas going that route even before the numbers for DotS came in but now they can feel a tad more secure that this isn’t a fool’s errand. No guarantee that future dramas doing this can … Continue reading →
