I feel like so many things in my drama loving past have converged like some sort of imploding sun, and in a good way of course. K-actress Kim Yoo Jung has been offered the female lead of the titular sageuk Hong Chun Gi, and she was my first pick so it’s rare that I get my dream casting lol. The … Continue reading →
When I saw these stills today I wondered how it could be that Park Bo Gum is out promoting a movie when he’s in the army. That’s how much his character Hye Joon in currently airing tvN drama Record of Youth reminds me of him just playing himself in chronicling his rise to stardom. His narrative, character, and performance remains … Continue reading →
It’s fall so I’ll accept the black with black with black totally all black look of Park Shin Hye at last week’s Valentino event in Seoul. The top and skirt has streaks of color and she wisely didn’t wear black boots or black pantyhose with her mules so the skin tone below the skirt helps defray the darkness. I love … Continue reading →
There are so many accolades deservingly heaped on recently concluded tvN drama Flower of Evil and one of them is definitely lead actor Kim Ji Hoon taking on a surprising villainous role. He’s not done a true baddie before, even early on in his career and when he was firmly in second male lead territory he always played characters the … Continue reading →
This surreal 2020 is heading towards the final stretch and contains probably equal number of hits and misses with respect to K-ent. Movies were delayed or postponed and people seemed to return more to K-drama and television show viewing albeit no longer solely on an old school tube. Risks were taken and one that seemed risky from the outset was … Continue reading →
I always have fond memories of supporting roles which scene-steal and really add to the success of a drama or movie. Some supporting actors and actresses parlay a breakout role to lead status of their own, others are content to stay on the sidelines to continue and deliver their own brand of value add. TW-actor Patrick Lee broke out with … Continue reading →
J-ent still discusses every baby announcement from top pop songstress Ayumi Hamasaki with “unwed” appended to it. The lady is so successful she might as well have as many babies as she wants and doesn’t need marriage to make it legit and happy for her. 42-year old Ayumi shocked J-ent this January 2020 when she announced that she had given … Continue reading →
Take this with a grain of salt but the undeniable reality is that recently deceased J-actor Miura Haruma was clearly depressed when he took his own life. Why could be a variety of factors, J-ent early on said Haruma dealt with pressure from his mom always needing financial support from him and also being a very sensitive soul in a … Continue reading →
I hope everyone had a great mid-Autumn festival on October 1 (Chuseok in Korea and Zhong Qiu Jie for in Chinese-speaking countries), quite late this year but it’s been the weirded year ever so keep on surprising me. A lot of dramas and shows are postponed from Wednesday onward on what would have been Asian Thanksgiving but due to COVID-19 … Continue reading →
Getting so many K-drama Queens together, the screenwriter and PD for upcoming SBS drama Penthouse better have aces up their sleeves to maximize this collection of gloriousness. Yay, the first day of October and a happy positive surprise news to report. Lately all the shockers have been negative so I am grateful and so happy for this particular news. J-actress Ishihara Satomi is married! The adorable star drop the bombshell on the industry with confirmation that she has married already her boyfriend of the past year, a … Continue reading →
One of the positives of 2020 was the increased exposure of K-dramas to global viewers thanks to the licensing deal with Netflix for many of the high profile dramas that aired this year. This year a site called Flixpatrol also started to track viewership numbers on the various streaming sites with of course Netflix leading the pack in terms of … Continue reading →
You watch K-dramas long enough, and blog about it long enough, then inevitably it’s like deja vu happening right before your eyes in slow motion. More posters and stills are out for MBC spy thriller romance The Spies Who Loved Me with Eric, Yoo In Na, and Im Joo Hwan. The leads are nicely selected to match well visually, age-bracket, … Continue reading →
