What has Kang Ji Hwan been up to lately? Quite a lot actually but none of it is on the drama front. Since wrapping his road trip movie Shoot for the Sun in LA during the Summer, he’s been busy preparing for a fan meeting in Japan where he is still very popular. The fan meeting happened last weekend and … Continue reading →
Excuse me, but whut? It’s been hours since I heard this news and my mind is still not computing. I suppose in the world of K-drama casting anything goes, and I mean anything as long as it’s some arrangement between the agencies and production companies that the audiences will never know about other than wonder skeptically why two people were … Continue reading →
For awhile it seemed like the dating revelations in the Korean acting community seemed to have finally simmered down after a front-loaded first half of 2013 explosion. I don’t follow K-pop so have no clue if the singing and dancing idols over there are dating up a storm. I do enjoy a juicy and innocuous dating gossip as long as … Continue reading →
After the mega-sized drama press conference for Heirs earlier this week, it’s a mite relaxing to see the much smaller cast of Marry Him If You Dare (Mirae’s Choice) attend its drama press conference yesterday. Starring Yoon Eun Hye, Lee Dong Gun, Han Chae Ah, and Jung Yong Hwa, the drama is a late-comer to the time-travel trend in K-dramas … Continue reading →
New drama alert coming out of Taiwan! It’s been mostly a long and sorry Summer for me and fluffy Taiwan dramas. Love Around was a repetitive DOA mess, Just You has only cute and nothing else, Amour et Patisserie was gorgeous and lovely but rather faded into the consciousness, and episode 1 of IUUI was brilliant but then collapsed on … Continue reading →
It’s not easy to steal the thunder in a drama. Even the male and female lead isn’t guaranteed to shine and win the audiences rapt attention despite the odds in their favor since they have the most screen time and likely the best written characters. There are plenty of instances of second leads capturing the viewers attention because of the … Continue reading →
I think watching Heirs/The Inheritors and expecting more is going to be mentally exhausting and ultimately unsatisfying. If you like what you’ve seen so far, then chances are this is the extent of it. Episode 2 spanned a day in the life of meet-random couple Cha Eun Sang and Kim Tan, and I’ve actually never watched a Kim Eun Sook … Continue reading →
Well, if you thought to yourself that all you ever wanted to see was Lee Seung Gi and Lee Seo Jin do a very un-PC parody CF of old school kung fu movies with bad dubbing from the 60s and 70s, then your dream has come true and you can check one off the bucket list. I don’t even want … Continue reading →
The October onslaught of Fall K-dramas commenced with the arrival of Heirs and Medical Top Team so there can be no rest for the weary when there are so much new stuff to watch and write about. It’s no secret I’m super stoked about Marry Him If You Dare, which has the Korean title Mirae’s Choice but for this drama … Continue reading →
I quite enjoyed episode one of Heirs/The Inheritors, an over-hyped packaged fluff with plenty of warts and an overflow of pretty young things. Every few years one of these comes along – a high school show that delivers the escapism imagination for teen viewers living in the dreary halls of high school wanting something absurd set in their own world … Continue reading →
If South Korea follows the Hollywood film release timeline, then Fall is the season when the darker fare comes out. Stuff that screams “awards consideration” over “box office candy”. After the early onslaught of Summer releases with corresponding big VIP list movie premieres, I fell off keeping track of movies but this one caught my eye because it stars the … Continue reading →
The first poster for Marry Him If You Dare is out and it’s one where Yoon Eun Hye’s Mi Rae and Jung Yong Hwa’s Se Joo are featured prominently. I can’t wait to see the rest of the posters judging from how much I liked the arrangement and design of this one. I’m especially fond of the English title Marry … Continue reading →
I think Kim Eun Sook is a tiny bit disingenuous to be annoyed with the questions lobbed at her about how Heirs or The Inheritors seems at first blush quite similar to the extremely popular and well-known Hana Yori Dango franchise. Its true that the general premise of a poor kid in an uber-rich kids high school doesn’t belong to anyone and I’ve seen … Continue reading →
