Would you make a deal with the devil? Event since Faust in the 18th century literature and successive mediums have grappled with this topic to varying ends. Upcoming tvN drama When the Devil Calls Your Name tackles it head on with male lead Jung Kyung Ho striking a deal with the literal devil played by Park Sung Woong in exchange … Continue reading →
This drama feels like a reverse version of Knowing Wife (Familiar Wife) and that’s both a good and potentially bad thing. Last year’s hit tvN drama Knowing Wife was made incredible and utterly perfect by the acting and chemistry of the two leads Ji Sung and Han Ji Min which helped ground the fantastical concept of a man driving through … Continue reading →
Jaw drop. Okay, now this is a high falutin’ fashion shoot and not one of this sit there and smile routine pictorials that only garner interest from me because it features an actress or actress I like. Top Korean model Han Hye Jin is featured in an eye dropping Bazaar Korea photo shoot that is dramatically black against a white … Continue reading →
I’m having a hard time thinking of another K-drama actress with as many romance dramas under belt as Park Min Young AND has also delivered performances that generated strong chemistry with her male lead(s). In some dramas she even sparks with the male lead and second male lead alike! Her hit rate is just too high to be a coincidence … Continue reading →
Ok, I think the bigger twist in tvN drama Arthdal Chronicles would be if the scholarly twin Saya ends up being the male lead over the warrior twin Eun Seom that the drama has been following for the 6-episodes of season 1. I say this because dramas with twins especially in sageuks always ends up killing one and it’s always … Continue reading →
Seeing K-actress Suzy at Incheon Airport this week leaving South Korea to attend the Christian Dior event confirms two fashion tastes for me. One, I really dislike the Dior saddle bag, have since it first came out and still find it so annoying with a neither here nor there sensibility. Second, no girl looks good in a low pleated skirt, where … Continue reading →
There’s a mixed reaction to TW-drama Before We Get Married with the domestic audience, it’s a cult hit with all valid criticisms. Leading lady Puff Guo‘s acting remains at the level from when she last worked with male lead Jasper Liu (Liu Yi Hao) while he’s improved leaps and bounds and it shows, but to an addicted viewers that doesn’t … Continue reading →
I think it’s pretty incredible that K-stars Cha Eun Woo and Shin Se Kyung are so pretty that they look good in any type of visuals. Some stars have modern features and don’t suit sageuks well and others seem to fit into period dramas seamlessly and are less impressive in modern roles. These two look perfect in their roles for … Continue reading →
Now don’t go kerchief twisting that I spoiled a major twist in tvN big budget sageuk Arthdal Chronicles. This so-called twist is nothing like someone yelling out the ending to The Sixth Sense of revealing a major detail in The Crying Game. This twist is coming early on in the three-season scheduled drama and also telegraphed in the first two … Continue reading →
The concept of upcoming tvN drama Melt Me (or Melt Me Softly or Let Me Melt) has shades of Hollywood flick Passengers. Here the two leads are supposed to be frozen for 24 hours and it ends up being 20 years, and once they are awake they are the only two who have lived through that wild situation. In Passengers … Continue reading →
There’s a modern Chinese saying “zero dead angles” that refers to a star who looks fabulous photographed or filmed from any angle. This is totally a thing because one hears about superstars dictating that photo shoots must only be snapped from a particular angle or flattering side. I think it’s rare to be a star that has zero dead angles, … Continue reading →
I’m pre-loving the set up for upcoming tvN drama Hotel Del Luna. It subverts the more prevalent of K-drama tropes with the male in charge and the woman as the straight man character to marvel at the extremes around him and course correct to make him the perfect guy for her. Here it’s IU as the thousands year old bossy … Continue reading →
This is a rather crappy thing to be saddled with but TW-actress Janine Chang is just so classy and cool about it that I think it’s even more amazing to write about. The 38-year old star is now Taiwan’s most eligible actress golden leftover girl after 44-year old top model-actress Lin Chi Ling announced her marriage last week. Also in … Continue reading →
