Well this is going to be a fulsome May of 2025, I’ll remember it well due to the fallow prior months in C-drama land and the potential for not just one hit drama but two. Youku has announced the airing of Legend of Zang Hai with top actor Xiao Zhan and successful drama actress Zhang Jing Yi for May 18th. … Continue reading →
So in drama casting for any star it’s never final until it has started filming, and even then it’s not final what with mid-shoot recastings all the way to post-production AI face swaps. Follow along long enough and I’ve basically seen it all happen lol. The coveted female lead role for the soon to start filming modern C-drama Dazzling with … Continue reading →
Et tu, Grandma? It’s like the tax evasion crackdowns in C-ent for the last few years haven’t put the fear of god in every single entertainer and yet here we are, another tax investigation of a star. Veteran C-actress Liu Xiaoqing, a top star in her heyday and still commanding onscreen as evidenced by her small but meaningful role as … Continue reading →
Better quality doesn’t always translate to more viewership but at least the second chapter of the Fox Spirit Matchmaker series has concluded with no major hiccups or as a big flop. Love in Pavilion is more like a shrug of the shoulder type of drama run, with the heat index in iQiyi never breaking 9000 (which the first chapter Red … Continue reading →
IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! Omg, I cannot believe just released period C-drama The Prisoner of Beauty is even better than I expected and could have hoped for. It changes, swaps around, and condenses the novel substantially but stands on its own so it’s like the novel is amazing and the drama is amazing (so far) but in its own … Continue reading →
Yay, he’s back! But I don’t think there could be anyone happier to see Lee Do Hyun than his actress girlfriend Lim Ji Yeon lol. The actor completed his nearly two year long military service today and has been honorably discharged. I feel like he wasn’t away that long but that’s because last year during his service his pre-service completed … Continue reading →
My mad love and respect for K-actress Kim Go Eun continues to grow with news about how she’s managing her career. She’s coming off a new career high with Exhuma being both a box office mega hit and also winning her tons of acting awards, yet she’s still someone of her word. She said when she accepted the K-drama of … Continue reading →
Hot diggity it’s here! I’ve posted over half a dozen posts about rumors that Tencent will airdrop or release The Prisoner of Beauty in the last two years but this one isn’t a rumor – the drama got dropped today May 13th at noon. The soft ban on female lead Song Zu Er lifted two months ago and her other … Continue reading →
Oh boy, not sure I like this story set up at all just from the brief blurb. But if Suzy does indeed take the drama then I guess I have to check out the webtoon to see it’s hopefully just a dumb sounding story board but executed in an entertaining way. Suzy has been offered the lead role in the … Continue reading →
Seeing this first official character still of Tan Song Yun in her just started filming new C-drama gives massive The Sword and the Brocade energy and flashbacks. The drama is titled Against the Current (Chinese title 兰香如故 Lan Xiang Ru Gu which translates as Orchid’s Fragrance Remains) and is a female lead centric drama with Tan Song Yun being paired … Continue reading →
The first teaser is out for Youku period C-drama Love and Crown, which like its title suggests involves the monarchy and romance in equal measure. Though it looks way more scheming and political than any actual romantic vibes in the preview, with male lead Allen Ren back to being poker faced and Peng Xiao Ran reminding me so much of … Continue reading →
There is a lot of movement both in airing and on deck dramas, plus shuffling, so it’s not clear when iQiyi will release The Wanted Detective (former title Calming Waves) but it could be a summer 2025 release in the next few months. Starring Wang Xing Yue and Xiang Han Zhi, it’s a mystery, murder, and mayhem investigative drama with … Continue reading →
Talk about a huge mess on the eve of a big budget high profile C-drama release. The period male lead centric C-drama The Journey of Legend (Chinese title 赴山海 Fu Shan Hai or Go to the Mountains and Seas) starring Cheng Yi was on deck for a May 2025 this month premiere on iQiyi and Tencent but that’s now delayed … Continue reading →
